Like most of the people who find their way into Dr. Viland's office, I was struggling with a…read moredebilitating health situation that had dragged on for almost a year. Several doctors and specialists seemed to offer no insights or resolution. I had tried many things- Western and Eastern and in between! Per my disposition I was doubtful that this would help... but it worked, completely and quickly. It's been 3 months since my first visit and I have been symptom free the entire time (which is crazy) and several other aspects of my health have improved significantly. This was not just a rescue from a health crisis, it was a big quality of life shift for me. If you're reading this, perhaps you can relate. I highly recommend Dr. Viland and his team!

When I developed persistent thumb joint pain from long hours at the keyboard, a family member practically dragged me in to see Dr. Triestman -- and it completely changed my approach to care. Dr. Triestman is incredibly knowledgeable. He used Active Release Techniques to address the issue directly and gave me targeted rehabilitation exercises to do at home. His empathetic, patient approach put me at ease from the very first visit, and I was pain-free far sooner than I expected. The best part? Instead of the every-other-week visits I used to rely on, I now only need to see him a few times a year to keep everything tuned up. His office is also conveniently located in the heart of Truckee, which makes visits easy whether you're a local or just passing through. Truly awesome care. Thank you, Dr. Triestman -- you're my hero!

Dr. Barry knew exactly what to do to fix my pain, first visit. I've been to dozens of chiropractors…read moredue to EDS, and this is one of the rarer ones who can not only put your joints back, but figure out what caused it, fix that, and then give you homework to make it better. I was visiting Tahoe and through a series of unfortunate events messed up my SI and lower back in a way that I couldn't fix myself. After a few days of pain, I started looking for help. Dr. Barry got me in immediately, listened carefully to my lengthy medical history and restrictions, then proposed treatment that was aligned with my practitioners back home and my intuition on what had gone wrong. 30 minutes later I was moving again and practicing the exercises he gave me to prevent a repeat, which were a nice progression on what my PT at home had given me. Everything about the experience was easy and chill. Extremely reasonable prices. He's even served by the free TART shuttle. Oh if you are a skier, you'll appreciate the memorabilia up everywhere. :)

I have to admit that I've always been skeptical of anything that can be considered "alternative…read moremedicine". I guess I always thought, if it WORKS, then why don't so called "real scientists" quantify it, standardize it, and release treatment recommendations based on proven studies of its efficacy? That being said, I'm also open minded enough to give anything (or anyone) a good once-over before writing it off... and that's how I ended up in Tyler's office. After taking a pretty bad spill on a skateboard last year, I was left with almost debilitating pain in my wrist, and although my initial fracture had "healed", my "normal" doctor told me there was little they could do besides injections and pills to help with the ongoing pain and stiffness. So on the recommendation of a friend, I decided to give Tyler Lapkin / Tahoe City Acupuncture a try. I won't say I believe Acupuncture to be a catch-all alternative to "western medicine" (and Tyler himself said about the same to me), but I AM now a believer in the power of acupuncture to treat and manage chronic pain. And you can tell Tyler is a real scientist when he talks about acupuncture... His depth of knowledge of TCM (as he refers to Traditional Chinese Medicine) is impressive, and it is clear that he has honed his technique through study as well as countless hours of practice. He's also just a really nice guy and makes the process very easy on you from the moment you walk in the door. If you have a chronic condition that western medicine is unable to tackle (or they just want to load you up with drugs!) give this guy a try, he's great and his treatments have truly improved my quality of life.

I found Tyler most fortuitously when I stumbled upon his monthly Community acupuncture clinic…read more After a session at the clinic which was great, I made an appointment at his office for a private session. I have been receiving acupuncture regularly for years, so when I'm on vacation I seek it out as well. I've seen all types of practitioners and I feel that Tyler is very knowledgeable, solid in his technique, and a gifted healer. If you are in the area and have been thinking about trying acupuncture absolutely give him a try. He's also just a great person to offer a low-priced community clinic giving all people the chance to heal. The community session was great and the private session even better. Hands-down worth every (totally reasonable) penny.
