I have genuinely enjoyed seeing Dr. Kroll, and I have always appreciated the clinical care provided during my appointments. I have been a patient of this practice for nearly 20 years, which is precisely why this experience has been so disappointing. I know this office is often booked months in advance, and perhaps the volume of patients contributes to a lack of individualized attention at times. However, after being with the practice for so long, I expected a much higher level of care and accountability when a significant issue arose. In January 2025, I purchased a pair of Fendi prescription glasses from this office for well over $1,500, once the frames, lenses, scratch-resistant coating, transitional UV treatment, and additional upgrades were included. Given the significant investment, I expected both the product and the post-purchase support to reflect a high standard of quality and accountability. Approximately seven months later, I noticed that the right arm of the glasses, specifically the area with the two stacked screws, had become loose and noticeably unstable. I scheduled an appointment to have the glasses adjusted. During that visit, the technician appeared rushed and simply tightened the screws. Unfortunately, that did not resolve the issue, as the right arm remained visibly wobbly in clear contrast to the left side. When I pointed this out, she stated that she did not know why it was still loose, did not appear to investigate further, and instead reassured me that the glasses would not fall apart because the screws were "tight." As someone without expertise in eyewear repair, I trusted the professional assessment I was given. Fast forward to March 2026, and the issue I had originally raised became exactly the problem I feared: the bottom screw on the right side completely detached from the plastic arm, rendering the glasses essentially unwearable. I brought them back to the office, where I was then told by the optical technician that it appeared to be a manufacturer defect. However, because the actual break occurred just two months after the warranty expired, I was informed that nothing could be done. To make matters worse, I was also told that the manufacturer no longer produces the frame, meaning I could not simply replace the damaged frame and reuse the prescription lenses. In other words, despite paying over $1,500 for these glasses, I was left with no practical solution other than to purchase an entirely new pair of frames and lenses. That response was extremely frustrating and, frankly, unacceptable. The issue was clearly developing while the glasses were still under warranty, and I had already brought the problem to the office's attention months earlier. At that time, the concern was dismissed rather than properly evaluated or documented. Had it been handled more thoroughly then, this situation may have been resolved before becoming a complete loss. Additionally, after reading reviews from other patients, it appears this may not be an isolated incident, but rather a recurring issue with how concerns like these are handled. If that is the case, it is something the office should take seriously and address proactively. For an office that sells luxury designer eyewear, I expected a much higher level of product support, follow-through, and customer advocacy. While I continue to value Dr. Kroll's care as a provider, this experience with the optical department has caused me to lose confidence in making future eyewear purchases here. read more

It truly does disappoint me that I need to leave this office. I have absolutely loved Dr. Kroll and Dr. Lighthouse as I have been going here for almost 20 years. They have been truly amazing to me and helped me get through my anxiety of anyone going near my eyes. I am really upset about this. The issue is not with them at all, it is with scheduling. I showed up to my "cancelled"appointment today where I was told I had cancelled and rescheduled for another date. I know I did not cancel and reschedule this one per my own records I have kept. This is the second time I have shown up and been told I didn't have an appointment. It is not worth the hour round trip drive for me to just be turned away after waiting months for an appointment. read more

After seeing the Kroll Families' optometry for 38 years the daughter Kara Kroll and her team were extremely rude to me because I questioned a $125 fitting fee that they wanted to charge me 2x because I took too long to get back to them on the contact lens samples. (1 month) They were horribly rude when I said I wasn't aware that they had a timeline to act. She cannot stand up to the kindness and care her father provided. This team is a disgrace to the Kroll legacy. And had no concern when I said I would now take my business elsewhere. The money was far more important to them than a 38 year relationship. read more

I've been coming to Dr. Lighthouse for the past 6-7 years and I can't say enough good things about the entire operation. They're efficient on the phone and with all paperwork. Ready promptly for appointments. Insanely professional and personal with patient care. And just an all around pleasure to visit. COVID precautions are on point too. I recently had an appointment and was told to call when I arrived. I was greeted outside and ushered in to a room to wash my hands, then taken straight into a sterilized exam room. Dr. Lighthouse donned her mask, as did I, and everything about it felt safe and secure. I noticed I didn't take the periphery test, but I'm guessing that's just to minimize movement through the office and potential places where germs could be passed. On the optometry side it COVID was equally cared for, as they limit the number of patients in the space as well. The customer service is absolutely fantastic. I had an issue with delayed shipping on the contacts I ordered and the office was quick to track them down and get me samples to carry me through as well. I really love this office! read more

I have been a happy patient of Dr. Lighthouse since 2014. I missed my appointment last month, the first appointment I can ever recall having missed. I called as soon as I realized, and before the end of the day. I offered to pay any fee and asked to reschedule. I was assured that because I had called there wouldn't be a fee charged. Unfortunately, I got a bill today for the no-call-no-show fee. I am not opposed to paying the fee and called immediately to do so. I clearly missed my appointment. However, when I was told I would not be charged when I called to pay on the day of, to get a bill a month later was upsetting. Additionally, I found that they didn't have any future appointment on the books for me when I had asked to reschedule. They are booking months out at this point. I understand the necessity to have patients show up when they are scheduled and the no-call-no-show fees do provide incentive, but to charge long-term patients without a history of not showing up seems like a poor business practice. I have had to change eye doctors so that I can be seen before the end of the year. A sad way to end this patient/provider relationship, for sure! read more

The place is really excellent. I like Kroll of course. But what really makes this place good is the office staff. They are professional, they are friendly and they are willing to really work hard to make a customer happy. They work with VSP seamlessly. I've gotten safety glasses and regular glasses. My whole family goes here. He does my yearly checks for diabetic issues as well. Parking can be a little confusing but it's well worth any trouble. read more

The office is quite technology, ahead of most that I have been in. You receive text messages to confirm appointment and to know when your order is in. In the back all you past history is at the doctor's finger tips on the computer. The staff are all quite nice. I am in a quandary lately. I have used this office for 10 years now. I also have duel vision insurance and still paid almost $700 for my last visit- full exam, new glasses with bifocals, clip sunglasses and new bifocals in my safety glasses. I'm wondering if insurance is worth it at all. Or how a big chain store is. Torn. I am not real satisfied on the new pair, but the staff did offer to check with the lab and see if changes could be made. The office hours are also very convenient, you can pick up at 7:15 am on weekdays. read more

Dr. Kara Kroll gave me an incorrect prescription. I purchased glasses online from a company that I have used for four years rather than paying $500-600 for glasses from her optical shop (they originally quoted over $1000, but due to my insurance they were a "great deal" at $600 - LOL). The glasses I had made through the online company were checked and confirmed to have been made perfectly to Dr. Kroll's prescription according to both another optometrist and also per Dr. Kroll's office. I went back to get a second exam so I could get a pair of glasses with a new prescription. Dr. Kroll was short and unprofessional in her second exam, including trying to baffle me with BS and telling me my eye glass provider did shoddy work. Her second exam results were slightly different than the first exam. I went to another optometrist and got a third exam with a significantly different prescription and will be ordering new glasses using this new prescription. This has cost me weeks without a new pair of glasses, a lot of hassle getting three prescriptions and a second set of glasses done, and $80 out of pocket for the third exam. Find another office if you want a good and trustworthy experience. read more

I had a very disappointing episode recently. I went in to pick up a new pair of glasses and brought in my existing pair of prescription sunglasses which I had purchased there several years ago. I had been assured they could adjust my sunglasses both when I was in previously to order my new glasses and when I brought them in that day. After a few minutes, my sunglasses came out to the front desk in two pieces. They had been broken. I was presented with unacceptable options: 1. They would recommend someone who might be able to fix them, but I would have to pay for the repair. 2. I could order a new pair from them and they would give me a 30% discount on that purchase. I felt sorry for the poor employee who had to deal with my increasing irritation as she presented those options to me. Understand I walked in with perfectly functional prescription sunglasses and walked out with a broken, unusable pair. The only options provided to me would cost me money to fix or replace sunglasses THEY BROKE. Unimaginable...unacceptable...unfair. All of this making me very unhappy. Dr. Lighthouse is nice and I felt that I received good care. The office is a pleasant atmosphere and well decorated. However, the office staff is pretentious about selecting eyewear and contacts within their office. The price I was quoted for contacts was twice as much as what I pay at Costco or Sam's. She didn't freely offer to give me my prescription, I had to ask for it. Every other office I've been to they give me a copy of my prescription right away. I took it to Sam's to double check the pricing and the prescription was missing information. When I called Dr. Lighthouse's office they asked for the fax number to fax it to Sam's, which I didn't have readily available. I asked if they had a record of the correct fax number and the girl said, "We're not going to Google that for you. We process our lens prescriptions in house so we don't keep that information on file." I understand they aren't getting revenue from me if I go somewhere else for lenses, but they did get my money for the eye exam and I am STILL their patient regardless. I felt like I was trash to them because I wasn't willing to pay their prices. If you want high-end eyewear and snobby office staff, this is the place for you!! I likely won't go back because I don't feel valued. read more

Dr. Lighthouse and Jessica will change your life! Well....at least the life of your eyes! I am so glad to have used Yelp to find an optometrist in the Reno area. It was really easy to create an appointment online, and find information on their website. But honestly, its the great staff at the office. Dr. Lighthouse was very thorough during the eye exam, although I was a nervous wreck. I'm usually anxious during any health-related visits! However, the exam went smoothly and Jessica went beyond customer service brownie points in helping me find the perfect pair of frames. Definitely a great office, great selection of frames, and great communication! They have a system that text you to remind/confirm your appointments (with your approval of course). I have prescription sun glasses that Jessica helped me pick out (she chose the right ones!), I have glasses for computer work, a spare pair for studio work, a pair to help me drive before the sun comes up and the glasses are switched, a pair when I actually get to the store and need to see things - and it's all because of them. I picked up my $900+ glasses today and expected some kind of service to see if they fit, etc. Instead, the receptionist handed me the glasses along with a small bottle of cleaner and cloth. I asked if there was someone to see if they worked, she directed me to just try them on and look around in the waiting room. which I did. I said I didn't know if the bifocal part of them worked, so she handed me a piece of paper from her desk and directed me to read it there in the waiting room. There were three other customers watching this ridiculous service. They are already slipping down my nose, so clearly needed some adjustment. Very poor service for the price. read more

I've been seeing Dr Kara Kroll for a couple of years, both for vision exams and a medical eye condition. With rare exception, I find the entire staff here exceptional. First time there as the insurance switches and had to find a new eye doctor. From the time we walked in till the time we left we felt very welcomed. Dr.Kroll was amazing and was very thorough explained everything in such detail. She was very personable and friendly. Of course my prescription changed, I noticed as I get older that keeps happening! I have been going to Dr. Kroll for almost 20 years. He's very knowledgeable and patient, and explains procedures and outcomes clearly and simply. The people in the office are all very nice and attentive. And appointments are kept with minimal waiting. The frame selection isn't as big as some of the box stores, but neither I nor anyone in my family have ever had an issue finding the style and pricepoint we want. Dr. Kroll is fantastic. She's very professional, thorough and pleasant, but DO NOT buy your frames or lenses there! They said they would make new lenses for my existing frameless glasses and took my money. I was then told that they had the lab make the lenses, but they can't put them in my frames, that I could buy one of their frames for the lenses. I told them I paid a lot of money for my frames and really like them which is why I explicitly asked if they could do the lenses only. They refuse to give my money back on the premise that they told me in 2016 that they could not do the work. They should know what services they can provide before they tell a customer they can do the work and take their money. Just because they could not do the job in 2016 how am I to know what they can and cannot do in 2018. Businesses change manufacturers and suppliers all the time; it's their responsibility to know what their capabilities are, not the customers. I'm not impressed with the office staff. Dr. Kroll is awesome, but their front staff and their cancellation policies are a bit ridiculous. I called to reschedule an appointment (and it was 23 hrs 45 minutes before my appointment) and they threatened to charge me $50 b/c it wasn't more than a full 24 hours. Heartless office staff and I will NEVER go back! I'll just go to my husband's eye doctor from now on. ~RR read more

Dr. Kroll has been my optometrist for five years and I have only good things to say. He is knowledgeable and very friendly. The women in the office are very helpful and so,so nice! It's important to have an honest opinion when picking out glasses, and they have always done a great job of picking out frames that they think will work with my face AND politely telling me when they don't work!
