A significant winter storm - referred to as Winter Storm Cora - is anticipated to bring heavy mixed precipitation to the Roanoke, Virginia area, with a Winter Storm Warning in effect until Monday, January 26, 2016. We are to expect 4 to 8 inches of combined snow and sleet, ice accumulation, and dangerous travel conditions with wind gusts up to 35 - 40 mph. After receiving the above information from the weathercasters of Channel 10 local news, I decided to go shopping for food, water, and essentials to weather the storm. Asking around, on the day before the storm would reach us, I was told that Walmart's shelves were almost all cleared out, and not to bother going there. My friends advised me to go to either Food Lion or Kroger. I decided to go to the Vinton Kroger, knowing by experience how well managed this Kroger is and how they do an excellent job of keeping their shelves stocked. When I arrived, their parking lot was pretty full, but still had some parking spaces available to park. As I parked and approached the entrance, their American flag flew high above under a beautiful blue sky with white clouds. Inside, I was able to walk around with my shopping cart and find all the essentials I needed to weather the storm. From frozen ready-made foods, easy to prepare, to bread and cold cuts, to even milk and water, that oftentimes are the first things to run out in supermarkets during inclement weather. I asked one of the employees for directions of where to find the little glass bottles of Starbucks Coffee and she immediately gave me the aile number. Another employee helped me reach the toilet paper that I wanted that was on a shelf too high for me to reach. They even had the cereal that I like that oftentimes even in good weather the other supermarkets run out. The clerk at the cashier's counter was very efficient checking out all my merchandise, and the bag packing attendant in quickly packaging all my item and nicely placing them back into my cart. In Vinton, they also don't charge you for the bags, which they do in Roanoke. As I was taking my groceries to my Lexus, cars stopped to allow me to cross over to the parking lot. I quickly placed all my items in the trunk of my Lexus and pushed the cart back to one of those cart stations in the middle of the parking lot. As I was leaving the parking lot I saw behind me how another car was paking in the parking space I had just left. I thought to myself how grateful I was to the management and staff of this Kroger in particular for being so efficient that allowed me to shop, like if nothing out of the ordinary was going on. read more

What is going on with Kroger in Vinton. They have done a way with their meat department. Now you can only purchase prepackaged meats and seafood. The meat department was one of the best, and the staff was really friendly and helpful. I understand that this is a trend that Kroger's is looking at nationally, but it is gonna hurt them. This is a terrible decision, and it is going to cause my family to shop elsewhere. Bring it back! read more

Tryed to look at flowers in front. Two employees toke flowers off shelf's so they can sit down.?Both vaping and texting. Couldn't do my shopping because they acted like this is their smoking are and break area. Candy and he fellow employee acted like I was intruding. The manager came out and the man kept vaping in front of the manager. Very dis respectful towards manager and the public. read more

the customer service assistant at the self check out didn't want to help me because I had 2 different orders , it wasn't that big of a deal or that hard of a job she came over got an attitude rolled her eyes walked away and sent someone else over to do the job because she couldn't be bothered, but yet went and helped other people, I didn't understand why she acted that way with me, I wasn't mean to her I just wanted to check out. I called back to the store to speak to the manager, of course he was rushed and didn't want to hear it, and acted like he didn't even know who she was when they don't have that many older women working the self check out, and pretty much didn't care and said we will talk to her. hopefully he actually does and explain that hey these people are just trying to check out and get out of here, and you don't have to have an attitude because you don't want to be there and do your job because we don't actually want them to come help us to begin with because it makes checking out an even longer experience. read more

I like Kroger. You have less choices of grocery stores at the lake. The staff is friendly. The customer service desk is never crowded. There is a nice selection of spices and interesting seasonings. The employees are on the floor and proactive about offering help. read more

Kroger is probably my favorite place for groceries in Roanoke, and this store also gets extra points for being one of the only Krogers with sushi to go, plus an impressive selection of other readymade, chilled snacks for takeaway, such as bean salad and crab salad. The store is so humongous that there are two rows (lengthwise) of shelves, and aisles are wide enough for racing four trolleys side by side. Self checkout is appreciated, and the store is always bright and clean. Always happy to go back! read more

Do not shop online at Krogers Placed an online order at 8:59 am . Delivery frame was 8:59 to 1pm. Received 2 text messages that the delivery time was pushed back. Last one suppose to be between 3-3:30. No delivery by 7:15pm. I cancelled order and they charged my card $92.35. Disgrace at this time when people are going through tough times. read more

I have been shopping Kroger, Hardy Road, Vinton Va for over 40 years. I am mostly pleased with the store & layout except the rest rooms. The Ladies Room has smelled like a cesspool the last 5 times I was in there which was in the early morning. They had just cleaned because the floor was wet. Come on Kroger, I know your better than that.............clean up your act. read more

This is a very nice Kroger and so spacious! It is just as nice as the one at Westlake, but merchandise seems a little less plentiful. Aisles are wide and everything seemed neat. The environment seemed relaxed. There were at least 4 cashiers working and no real long lines. Customer service desk was very attentive and caring. Everyone I talked to was friendly and tried to help. I plan to shop more here when I am in the area. read more

Just a fair warning to anyone who orders groceries from Kroger for delivery. I paid almost 200 dollars for groceries that was supposed to be delivered on June 21st they never showed up. Called customer service they gave me a 20 dollar credit but said it would be 10 business days to receive the refund. Well now it's July 11 and still no refund. Called again and they said they will expedite it should be refunded no later then Friday.. I'm not holding my breath. read more

The cake edible printer broke the day of my bffs party and I wasn't able to get another cake in a few hours. The Assistant Manager Megan was very supportive and instrumental in getting this cake completed. I would never go anywhere else but here. The cake was better than I envisioned. Every time I shop here, which has been increasingly become more rare lately, I get the feeling like they are doing me a favor having me spend my money rather than I am doing them a favor. I don't get the greeting and home-style atmosphere feeling I get at the nearby Food Lion. Though I have stepped in recently, only because the Food Lion is closed or doesn't carry the item I want, the final time I went in on a regular basis was just before work and was approximately 23:15 (11:15PM). First off, late night, they block off the entrance with shopping carts causing me to go down the front of the checkout aisles, only to walk around them to the back, practically back tracking to get to the candy, chip and soda aisle (stay awake food as I call it) to get me though the next eight to twelve hours. This time, I got fed up and because I am not made of time. At that time of night, I have ten to fifteen minutes and don't have time to walk 3/4 the distance of the store...twice, just to end up where I am at. This particular time, I broke open the cart barrier, which someone wedged between the wall and the first checkout, causing me to knock over an empty, clean liner, trashcan. Now, I admit, it was my fault, I knocked over the trash can so I pick it up along with the lid and made it nice and neat, just the way it was until this night manager comes up barking at me "Those carts are there for a reason". I calmly, explained that I have no interest in knowing why the carts are there and continued on my way. He decided that my answer was not satisfactory and told me he was the manager on that shift and to not move them again. Oh, that did it! I turned around and told him "you are telling me, a customer, who is spending his hard earned money, where I am supposed to go in what is clearly the public section of the store?" He said "yes, I am". I marched out of there, but not before telling him that I was going to talk to the general manager in the morning (which I never followed though but I should have). Also, the requirement to use the self checkouts has always been a bother for me. If I am spending my money, I want world class service and that includes being helped by a human. Not by a computer! I make the employees, who never seem to fail to break the conversation about their personal lives, check me out, just as if they was on a classic check out lane. I am betting they get paid good money to work there, time they earned it. read more
