I was cashing out at the register, and heard the cashier as well as two other employees who were obviously in some sort of management role, insulting an employee openly. Afterward, I approached these two personnel and stated to them that they were acting unprofessionally by making insulting comments about an employee. Even with me, she was unprofessional and argumentative. I finally had to tell her that the correct answer was "Yes Sir." Turns out these personnel were the Customer Service Reps. It seems there is some confusion on what these roles are meant to accomplish. If you are in any type of Leadership role, your mission should be about providing purpose, direction, and motivation. Every employee should be looking to advance and Lead. But if Leadership is setting these sort of examples, employees are only learning the back stabbing method of this mentality of surviving in a Corporate world. You should not be surviving your employment. Survival is for ship wreck victims. As Leaders, your greatest accomplishment is to create more leadership and to make yourself replaceable. Managers and bosses stand around and criticize. Leaders set the example and mentor. It's good for business. These positions are not there just for you to have a job. You have been trusted to look after a business and the employees. Leadership roles aren't about you being powerful. Lead by example. Better the environment and the business. Create an environment where people can't wait to come to work. Counsel your employees, both negative and positive. Stop standing around, looking snotty, and talking about your employees especially in front of customers. You bring discredit to yourself and your business. And you are pretty much saying that your employers are incompetent and don't know how to choose the right people for your role. read more
