What is it with this town being stuck in 1981?…read more Kroger's is an okay grocery store, but you have to use the card for the best price and that price may or may not even be close to the best in town. It is pure luck of the draw. As far as the physical store is concerned, you know what you're going to get because it looks the same and is laid out in exactly the same way it has been for the last thirty years- right down to the beige walls and plastic wood-grain veneer checkout stands. Combined with the fact that they turn off the display lights in the refrigerated section well before they close (to save money?), shopping there becomes a very strange experience. The other strange thing they do is rope off the pharmacy in the evening which forces every customer to have walk all the way across the store (past the check out lines, past the customer service booth, past the lottery and coin machines, past the shopping carts) to begin to shop, even if what you wanted is right inside the door in the OTC drugs on the other side of the rope. It is truly a bizarre customer experience, being herded past the items you need, to the the other side of a store that looks like it is stuck in a different time, only to discover that the refrigerator cases look as if they closed before the rest of the store. If you look for surreality in your shopping experience, Huntsville Kroger's might be the place for you. I, on the other hand, look forward to the day HEB builds a 'real' store in this town.

You should ask if I want paper bags, not just assume and they tore twice before I made it home …read more Never again

I recently stopped by Dollar General to grab some snacks and had a pretty positive experience…read moreoverall. The prices were great, which is always a plus when you're just looking for something quick and affordable. The customer service also stood out--the staff was friendly, helpful, and made the visit pleasant. The only downside was that not everything I was looking for was stocked on the shelves, which was a bit disappointing. Still, for the value and service, it's a convenient spot I'd visit again.

i was checked out by a large woman . no one told me there were rules to checking out. i am on…read moresocial security (78 years old) supporting a grandchild with no assistance from govt. or parents. my money was low and i told the woman it would be tight.she literally snarled. rang me up and then i told her i was a dollar 18cents short. i asked her to put something back. the entire time she was adjusting her hair and huffing to show her annoyance. i had no idea what was going on. she went and got a man. she announced loudly that i was suppose to tell her that part was on a card. i had told her. she made a huge scene and said that i wanted to put part on a card (what was left of my social security was on a debit card) i asked him to put part back. he said he couldnt they would have to cancel everything and start over. i am sorry but isnt that their job? i reached for my money and told the man to forget it that a person shouldnt be humiliated for being poor.shetold him that ihad done this(she was shouting the entire time) and now she had a line backed up to the street. then she said i didnt say a thing to you. she was screaming as she yelled it. i walk a mile to shop at that store because i have no vehicle. if youhave an option do not shop there. that man just stood there and let her yell instead of shutting her up. she has no business working with the public.
