I love Kroger but not this Kroger, I actually drive further just to get to the one on Loop 288.

By far the worst Kroger ever. If you thought you where going to go here instead of dealing with Walmart your better off going and standing in line at Walmart to never get any help. All of the staff is rude and very unprofessional my wife and I had to bag all of our own groceries while the bag boy just stood there. Then when I went to pay I accidentally inserted my wrong credit card for half a second and asked to cancel the transaction due to it being my company card they said sorry nothing we can do even though it never prompted any question or a signature. I will never recommend or anyone go to this location unless you like UNT kids running the store who have no idea what they are doing and are very rude and unhelpful to the customers read more

There curbside pickup service sucks don't use it I have a hard time even giving it a one my wife has the time to go pick it up it's not ready come back later come back later and wait another 45 minutes we are done using the curbside service cuz it's terrible read more

I just witnessed an employee (older gentleman) in the meat/seafood department put steaks in the class counters with his bare hands .... no gloves!! This person put 5-8 steaks then lined with black meat liner, closed the glass and went on his way. The SM was out for the day so I reported it to a store employee who claimed he was from Ca and needed to find out the policy for what I had just told him. I also called the Kroger Corp store and have yet to hear back from the District Manager. With COVID - 19 and previous ray problems my next call is to the Health Department! read more

I called ahead to see when they were open and they said until 1 am. Ran through the rain to get to the door just to be turned away by an employee who said they were closed, despite it being before 1AM. If you're going to tell someone you're open until a certain time, make sure that you are so they don't drive down and run through rain just to be turned away. I'm very upset. read more

Stop in for a salad bar lunch today. I am new to the area but saw they had a basic salad bar when I bought groceries last week. This was by far the worse salad I have ever had. Croutons are very ar soggy. My co-worker says they always are because they are kept on ice. WHY?? The salad dressing (1000 island) smells terrible. The $5.47 salad I bought went in the trash after 3 bites. Very bad. read more

This Kroger sucks. They just remodeled but it is so cramped with stuff grocery shopping seems like a race/mosh pit (but with old ladies that you would kill if you bumped them out of your way). I absolutely hate this Kroger, and I'm beginning to hate Kroger in general. This store is often dirty, has flies buzzing around the deli, has aisles filled with junk, and the people who work there complain and argue amongst themselves while I'd assume they are supposed to be working. Kroger's digital coupon system is horrible. I spend time downloading coupons that NEVER redeem, the in-store "manager" says there's nothing she can do, the phone help system is always too overloaded with calls to take mine, so I'm told to call back, and they don't respond to emails. I love kroger, just not this one. Other than the fact that it is really small and hard to move around all the other customers, it is always infested with flys! I have gone here many times over the 5 years I have lived in Denton, and there are always lots and lots of flys. Doesn't matter whether it is summer or winter. They of course always blame it on the rodeo that is close by. The rodeo only comes once a year. So why are there fly's there all year long? The deli's customer service is absolutely horrible and the cashiers are not so great either. The baggers like to put raw meat in with fresh vegetables and their customer service is crap too. This places parking lot is Satan spawned. A Complete Nightmare. Then theres all the freaking people. I have never seen such a busy store. Everyday is like Christmas over there. Overall the store is clean, well organized, well stocked with good variety and it has a really nice natural-healthy food selection too. Okay, updated and upgraded store and the new produce section is nice, BUT the help here is extremely unfriendly - cashiers scowl at you while checking out and then, we the customers actually thank them (imagine that) without even so much as a grunt in return. This is not one experience, rather it is dozens. Then, to top it all off, the parking lot is filthy and cluttered and the people who get on the microphone at the front desk screech just like a certain presidential candidate - the screeching is so bad, it hurts our ears. Today I was called a f*cking r*tard by a woman who was driving a too-big for her SUV, smoking a cigarette, on the phone, AND had kids in the car. This isn't the first time I had such problems in the parking lot and honestly, this is why I barely ever come to this location. Lost a customer due to discriminatory policy My boyfriend and I are visiting my sister in Denton. They are both over 21, I am not. We stopped by to get stuff for dinner and my sister grabbed some beer. At the register, I did not place any of the items on the belt not was I preparing to pay for the groceries. When we went to check out, the cashier said she would not sell alcohol to my sister because I was "a member of their party." She said they weren't even allowed to go back through the store and buy their beer if I left and waited in the car. We left the groceries on the belt and went to a different store. I hope that Kroger corporate reads poor reviews because they definitely lost a customer over this policy that, if taken for how the cashier explained it, discriminates against selling alcohol to anyone traveling with anyone underage, including parents with their kids. If this is some kind of whacky Texas law, I'd love to be educated on it, but seeing as it was just a grocery store and not a liquor store, I'm pretty sure it is a store policy. What if I just happened to strike up conversation with someone in the line and the cashier mistook us for "being in the same party?" Would she then refuse to sell to that customer? The store should really not make assumptions that the customers will make illegal decisions and leave that to law enforcement. I will probably from now on shop elsewhere if I have a choice. read more

"Close to home" and "cheesy" sum up this Kroger and there's not anything that makes up for that although both times service on the front end was commendable, which counts a lot for me. After making the rounds finding everything I need after a long day, I don't need drama checking out. Not drama with my check-out and not drama with the customer in front of me. Something that could have become very awkward happened my first trip. My cashier was paired with a special needs bagger who started to get agitated when he thought things in the bottom of my basket weren't checked out. I thought oh jeez, this is commendable but I hope he doesn't pick my twelve packs of sodas to get exercised about. My cashier clearly was trained or just had good instincts and said 'it's ok buddy, I've got it" really kindly and he calmed right down. The next trip I saw another special needs bagger - this one a 60+ gentleman. Yelp reviews are about quality and service, and I definitely found this not to be only positive for the community but also outstanding service. That's where I like to give my business when possible. Having said that, you don't really get the feeling this store is mopped often, the layout is weird and there are hardly any toiletries. Shampoo, bath gel - even soap - I kept walking past them because the selection was so small. With that and with other requests the staff knew right where things I needed were when I asked. The produce selection is by far the best thing in the store. There is a big selection of organic produce, both fruits and veg. Again, the layout was weird. The produce aisles are perpendicular to the the other aisles in the store and they're shorter. I found myself going back and forth instead of up and down. I don't want to work that hard looking for an onion. Some produce was too expensive - 69 cents for a lime. There's not exactly a lime shortage during a Texas summer. The bakery was pretty lame. There were no red velvet cupcakes so I got a lemon one that really shouldn't have been for sale at all. It was very stale and dry - even the frosting was dry, and it was expensive. I wish I lived near a different grocery store but I'm afraid this is it. I can live with it, especially with the quality and commitment of its staff. read more

Not bad for a chain store and better organized than the one on Loop 288. Better to close the store than us having to breath gasoline fumes INSIDE the building when they do the floors, as I did one night and nearly choked on the spot! Where's the health dept. in charge of indoor toxic fumes??? The produce is fresh, permanently colored, shelf life of 500 years but there's little other choice in Denton yet. Some organic, but the bananas go from yellow to squishy in 2 days without any in-between. Weird. Yes, they are handicap okay if you get someone to open the doors while you enter and exit. All one level. Ask someone to lift things down for you, most of us don't mind at all. read more

I have been shopping at this Kroger for 10 years but I am done! It has gone so downhill over the last year or two. I can't remember the last time I didn't have to search the parking lot just to find a small cart! The cart area inside is always empty. Last week, there were flies all over the deli area, and it seems it's no longer their job to bag groceries. I even had a checker hand me my receipt after she rang everything up and just stand there, leaving all my groceries on the belt, while she waited for me to bag them myself without even saying a word. If this store has become a self-bagging store then they need to lower their prices like other self-bagging stores. I overhead some people who ran into each other while I was shopping and they said they usually go to the Kroger on 288 because this one has become so trashy. At this point, I agree! I'm done waiting for it to get better. I'd rather drive across town than spend another dime at this store. This place desperately needs new management! read more

My husband and I were in Kroger on University in Denton today and I was at the meat counter, there were 2 young people in front of me and it became obvious that they were playing some kind of "black versus white" game, they were picking up packages of meat and putting them back slowly then again and again. I stood there for 10 minutes waiting for them to move on then asked can I get through to get some meat, the man said if you say please! They simply would not move on, there were people behind me that witnessed this. I finally told someone to please get the manager but when he came he did nothing! When we were checking out I saw him and asked him why he didn't do anything and he said someone told him I was calling them names! NOT TRUE! I am 76 years old I do not play petty games and do not call people names. The manager needs to protect their customers not allow them to be harassed. I am not a person that cares about a persons skin color, I am very open minded but this was one of the worst shopping trips ever! We have been loyal customers for many years but will no longer shop at any Kroger store if this is the way they treat their customers! This was at one time very user friendly before it was decided to expand the store using much of the parking lot. Now the aisles are narrow and the layout is very cramped. It seems to be dirtier than it once was. I've had encounters with check out clerks. I gave her my Ralph's card which is accepted and rather than scanning the card she gave me attitude by asking, what's this? I just said scan it and learn something. The parking lot that is left is horrible. Product selection and pricing are good but bakery seems limited. There's new construction at the other end of the center and I'm hoping it is a new grocery store. read more

The parking lot alone is not worth making the trip to this location. Too many overly entitled people in a rush to go nowhere. The loop 288 location is cleaner, brighter and has more Space between the aisles so your not stuck behind someone or risking getting banged around as you try to make your way around displays and crowded aisles. read more

I gave this store location one star ONLY because I had to, it actually deserves 0. I usually shop at the Kroger in Little Elm, but this location is on my way home so I stopped in due to convenience. The store was dirty - on the outside (parking lot) and inside. The one time I had to ask an employee for something, they acted like I was ruining their day with my question, which is very unlike the employees at the Little Elm Kroger, who in contrast, are always eager to help. And lastly, they are obviously short staffed on their baggers because I only saw one bagger working the entire check out area. After I paid, my checker and I bagged the groceries. I feel like I already pay more than enough for groceries these days, I shouldn't have to bag them myself too. I can count on one hand how many times I've ever actually written a complaint about a company, but sometimes it just needs done. I will never shop at this location again. read more

I wasn't going to give this two stars, but the actual selection of the store is pretty decent for Denton- especially the produce, beer, and wine. That's where the pleasantness ends. The parking lot is a living hell, and the store is always crazy crowded, and every time I make the mistake of going in, inevitably I have to wait in a pretty long line. A couple times a year, the circumstances in my life align to make this appear to be a good grocery store to grab a few things, and I regret the decision every time. When I lived very nearby and went more often, I usually heard a manager speaking hatefully to other employees in front of the customers, which made me feel pretty uncomfortable. The Kroger on Loop 288 is a lot faster to go through, and has at least as good of a selection. read more

I really love this Kroger, much nicer than the one in my hometown. On average it's fairly busy, but not nearly as terrible as the local Walmart gets. I love that it's located fairly close to campus and it has a great selection of grocery items. It's a very clean and organized store and it just plain looks good. I really like this store and have been shopping there more often. read more

This store is within walking distance of the TWU campus. When I got sick of eating dorm food or needed supplies, I went to this store. I never had a problem with checkout. The only thing I'd recommend. And again because of the proximity (or maybe they changed since I graduated) is DRAMATICALLY increasing TWU marketing--sell TWU stuff again considering the campus is just down the street. read more

This is the worst bakery customer service I have ever seen. I called to order cupcakes and the female who answered the phone said they were unable to make them. No option, period. All I needed was 24 cupcakes with frosting, nothing special. I will never call a Kroger again. read more

Bought a phone card that didn't work-returned it with receipt-The manager said it would be on in 2 hours-3 days and 3 trips back, we're being told we didn't bring in receipt (via a worker not even a manager, who refused to face us). Manager kept both card and receipt. Called customer service who ended up believing a different manager who said they ran the daily receipts but didn't say for what day(I never told customer service what day the purchase was) and didn't find the purchase. So basically saying we are out of luck, time and money then hung up on me. Went back to Kroger (manager still won't speak to me face to face), I ran across the young man working there who not only saw us give a manager a receipt, but joked about having to go back to the car to get it (moms always forget something), not wanting to this kid to have repercussions from his boss, I called customer service back telling them of my recent trip. If I were lying to these managers do you think I would have made all these trips back and phone calls? My son a Detroit firefighter suggests I put out the word via the monthly Firefighter magazine and social media-I think that is exactly what I am going to do. It's no longer the $20, it is a mission. The Kroger at 26130 Gratiot in Roseville Michigan has managers who obviously made a mistake by losing the receipt but refuse to admit it-Listen up folks we're seniors not stupid! read more
