I went into the store with a girlfriend and our daughter's. I felt judged right away from how the woman at the register was looking at us. We are here camping so we are not "put together" like we usually are. I don't want to pick stars. I like that Kristine's continues to be a thoughtfully curated selection of clothing, shoes, and jewelry for women. They have shifted to more fast fashion for lower price point options as I am shifting to sustainable slow fashion which has made it harder for me to shop there but I still feel they bring in products that end up being in my core rotation. But after a couple of trips with a friend there who asked, 'why do you go back when they treat you like that? I realized it's never been a comfortable experience to shop there. I am not the picture of a customer I see them treat with esteem and care--I like clothes and fashion in general but seem to always end up being half my Florida beach roots in the end and am not polished or 'on point' in my look. My friend pointed out how women who were that look were treated compared to me. Twice. She was right and I had always felt that way there but I thought that wasn't really my problem and who cares? But it stuck in my craw and after a recent very poor experience with a sales person who I typically enjoy, I quit going. Maybe she had a bad day but it felt ugly. I decided to quit going because of the customer service and my own personal shift to buying fashion that is more sustainable and ethical. read more

Kristine's is the best place to shop for women's clothes in Murphys. Most of the other clothing stores sell your typical touristy t-shirts or are geared toward a more mature customer. Kristine's caters to the nouveau-trendy Murphys resident. It is nice to be able to purchase casual au courrant clothing in town without having to drive off the hill. The store is located on Main Street. The store has been there for at least 20 years (I am pretty sure). It features a lot of contemporary and casual brands including Michael Stars, Lucky Brand Jeans, Joe's Jeans, Free People and more. The clothes are most appropriate for weekend attire and go well with the relaxed vibe of the gold country. read more

My friend and I were just in shopping and I'm sad to say I have to complain about the staff at Kristine's. As a local and a regular customer, I was personally offended when the lady working the floor let me know that a dress I was looking at was "very generous" in size. I'm usually not offended by something like this, but maybe next time you guys are selling a product, try and know your product, and not everyone is a size 0. What happens when a pregnant or "plus size" customer walks in? You may have had good intentions but it definitely did not come off that way. Sorry to say, but we won't be back. read more

While visiting Murphy's, we came upon Kristine's. Awesome clothing and shoe boutique with high quality, tasteful merchandise! I tried on a really cute pair of shoes I was on the fence about buying, they were a little on the pricey side for me. After I returned home, I regretted not purchasing them. I called Kristine's a few days later, and they were absolutely wonderful about locating the shoes and shipping them to me. I also found the style of crossbody purse I had been looking for for a very long time. Although, they didn't have it in any other color other than coral. I took down the name and was able to locate it from the manufacturer online, in the color I wanted. I am so glad I stopped in at Kristine's! Everyone working there was so friendly and helpful! I love Kristine's! Kristine herself has great style, a warm personality, and does a great job of selecting fashionable clothing for women of all ages. When I lived in nearby Angels Camp (before the age of online shopping), Kristine's provided local women with access to fun, contemporary styles. I have always admired Kristine's success as a small business owner and I think she is a great example of female entrepreneurship. Not even a hello when I walked in. I was looking for a purse and would of been nice for the ladies in there to acknowledge their customers. No one else was in there.... I bought a wallet/purse there because I had no choice since I forgot a purse for a wedding we are going to. I hated to give them my money without a hello or even a thank you when I left. Kristine's is like a wannabe clothing store that you would find in the Fillmore or Marina (neighborhoods of San Francisco) in a very small town of Murphys. Yes, hipsters and yuppies have invaded this quaint main street but the selections of cotton is too suburbia for my taste. They have Lucky Brand Jeans, but I think they should carry better selections. The items on sale are $50 or higher. I'd like to buy something from here one day but I think it'll have to wait another year before I visit the Sierras again. read more

This is Murphy's Anthropologie! The owner greeted myself and our party of 6 other women when we came in. I loved that she wasn't pushy and I felt comfortable shopping here. No pressure to buy. She even suggested a great sale item. I feel like the owner really cares that you leave happy and isn't just all about how much you spend in her store. Two thumbs up. Well, for us local types who have few shopping alternatives, Kristine's offers a refreshing change. And yes, I would also agree with some of the other reviewers that Kristine herself is not very interested in providing great customer service. Perhaps it's because when I shop there I don't appear to be a "high roller". Not sure. Other times I have been in and been treated very differently by some of her employees. A nice selection of items, well priced and nice brands; perfect for the gold country with some trendiness and contemporary vibe. I shop here every time I visit and enjoy doing so.
