I am so happy to be a patient at New Era Family Practice. I am a certified old lady and Dr. Patel…read moreand his staff are a dream come true. They are all nice and very patient. Dr. Patel is wonderful. He not only takes all the time I need, he actually listens and acts on what I need. Then there is the added bonus of a testing lab right next door. The location is mid city and in a safe and convenient location. Also the Patient Portal isn't a sinkhole. It is excellent for making appointments and answering questions and concerns in a very timely manner. They put the Family part into practice.

Dr. Patel's office is a breath of fresh air. In 2013, my brother suffered a brain bleed that was…read moreinitially diagnosed as "that virus that's going around." Thankfully my brother was airlifted to Tucson & treated by the amazing neurology & ICU staff at UMC. Following that hospitalization, the neurologist was insistent that my brother be seen by a local doctor the following day & his health be monitored closely. Sadly, another family care practice nearby were rude, disrespectful & uncaring with my family. (Please see my lengthy review on Yelp for details.) Our parents encouraged us to see their provider, Dr. Patel, at New Era Family Practice. I wish we had taken their advice sooner. The entire staff at New Era is very helpful & caring. Unlike my previous family practice experience, New Era was willing to see me & my brother at the same time, as I was my brother's primary caregiver. They did all this without hassle & were very efficient with returning my brother's original blood pressure log, something the other clinic took. The scheduling is always easy. Front desk clerk Rosa is a model of efficiency, quickly processing payments & insurance matters. They have been willing to see me the same day for urgent issues, typically within the hour, or seeing me around my work schedule. Dr. Patel is very approachable & quite fun during appointments. He knows my family well & always asks about my brother, mom & dad at each visit. He works off a tablet, listens to my concerns & makes diagnoses in quick, but well informed fashion. If a prescription is needed, he will ask what pharmacy I want the Rx sent to & forward directly from his tablet. Due to the office efficiency, I can typically pick up any prescriptions immediately following my appointment at the local Walmart. I appreciate that Dr. Patel provides sound medical advice without being "preachy" or judgemental. He's been willing to complete letters to employers without hassle & in quick order. Hands down, THE best provider I've had in my 46 years on this planet. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

I have had appointments with three different nurse practitioners. They have all been kind, engaged…read moreand professional. I recently moved here from Oregon where I had Kaiser insurance. I was never unhappy with the care I received. But, I have to say I felt like my annual physical was much more thorough with UCHC. The Kaiser doctor just asked questions, sat across the room and never touched me. All in all I feel like I am getting excellent health care with UCHC.

Now, we have gotten settled, but unfortunately our insurance is horrible and we make literally just above the amount to qualify for any help. We were paying $75 every appointment. Plus the cost of prescriptions and the insurance. I quit making routine appointments and made only the necessary ones. We had a $200 balance. I was in the waiting room for a pap so I could get birth control (married for over 20yrs- abstinence doesn't last) where I was called up and told I couldn't proceed with my appointment at least until I spoke with the financial department - in front of everyone! When I told the financial department that I had $20 to my name for our family of 5 for the week and couldn't afford to do anything no matter how much I would like to they responded by stating that they were going to note that I was unwilling to pay. I broke down- humiliated, embarrassed, and wanting to pay and wish I could! Then... I filled out application for their well woman's program. I was later notified I qualified for and made a new appointment. I again go in for the appointment to then hear the same lady announcing to a coworker that I can't proceed with the appointment and this time was because I in fact was not qualified as the program is only for people with no insurance. This was the second occasion I broke down in the same dang waiting room by the same lady. Turns out the program is for people with high deductibles and low incomes as well! Spent hours at each appointment because of this treatment. Moving forward each time I needed a medication fill or an appointment there has been a road block. Most recently I paid $72 on 8/14. I have a $85 balance. I called all week because I need medication refills to be given the run around of "can't refill til you have an appt". "Can't have an appointment until you talk to financial". "You paid $72 less than a month ago of course you can make an appt". Finally at 5:10pm... they'll send a message to the doctor but they don't know if they e left for the weekend and when they do respond they don't know if they'll send a bridge for your necessary medications. Also, do you think they care how much those are?! And, their treatment isn't just affecting me. I've been trying to make some bi weekly therapy appts for my son. First one was given the wrong time ( I literally was speaking to my husband while booking the appointment), second one didn't make it into their books?, now my husband had left 3 voicemails this week alone to try to get him scheduled. What is going on??? I do everything they ask me to. I may forget things at times too, but that's in my record anyways and I always try my best. I have never broken down so many times from a healthcare issue or company. It feels like we are being put through the ringer and I don't understand why. I am not a difficult person, but I will kindly stand up for myself. I used to love this place and would have referred it to everyone! Now, I hate it so much. I'm not sure what other options we have at the moment because of being fairly new to Arizona and there's not an over abundance close to us, but I will be looking elsewhere. I would keep my son going though, for his stability. Ugh. It's really sad for a healthcare company and workers who are supposed to genuinely care about each and every person they meet to treat this way. I should also state that I've spoken with the office managers/ community outreach people two or three times and it hasn't done anything. But! Lisa Kaiser is amazing and she genuinely cares about everyone!! Thank goodness for this woman! She deserves the moon!!
