For decades, Cheech's Poultry has served some of the best fresh and cooked chicken. I would come…read morehere with my mom when I was a kid, so it's been around for some time. It is located at the Gratiot Central Market across the bridge from Eastern Market. The stores at Gratiot Central remind me of the old Eastern Market of the 1980s. They sell fresh Amish chicken and turkey as well as cooked chicken at some of the lowest prices around. It is busy and sells fast, so there is always a new, fresh batch of chicken prepared. A whole cooked chicken is $11.00, and fried chicken wings are only $1.00 each.

And the chicken was great--it was crispy and no weird pieces that grossed me out (IYKYK) The Mac and cheese was okay, it was very cheesy and kinda mushy. I wouldn't need to get it again. The cornbread was delicious! Definitely worth getting a piece. I enjoyed the sauces we got. Buffalo parm was flavorful and not too spicy. The garlic parm was not super saucy, but still good. Teriyaki was a bit salty but that's expected. And we enjoyed the honey bbq a lot! The restaurant was clean. They had ice cream! The guys working there greeted us when we walked in and had our food ready super quickly. Actually enjoyed the chicken much more than other places so we'll be back.

I wait patiently and ask for a ranch sauce for the wait/inconvenience. The cashier smugly says "No, we'll need to charge you for it." This is after waiting almost 30 minutes for my order. People sure know how to kill their business without a sense of sensibility. I'll stick to the other WS locations where the estimates are accurate and the service is more considerate. The wings were disgusting, to boot.

To start the waffle fries were the best I've ever had at any restaurant. Hot, slightly crispy, unlike some places where the fries are a bit soggy. However, instead of a chicken sandwich which I always get, I decided to get the chicken strips. Bad choice. They were dark, over cooked and small. Nothing like the photo on the menu. More breading than chicken. They're slightly larger than nuggets at other restaurants. Ate one out of the three and threw the other two away. Culvers chicken strips are 10x better. I would suggest using the app since that line went a lot faster than the regular order line.

The chicken still had a nice crisp to it, which is always a gamble with fried food. The flavor absolutely delivered: perfectly seasoned with that signature spicy kick that builds without overwhelming. Juicy on the inside, crispy on the outside--exactly what you hope for. The sides held their own too. The mac and cheese was creamy and comforting. If I had one note, it would be that the spice level might catch you off guard if you're not expecting it. But personally, I love spicy food, so no complaints there. Overall, a great experience even via delivery. I'd definitely order again, and next time I'm in Detroit, I'd love to try it fresh in person.
