No one does doughnuts better than these guys and gals! Around 80p per doughnut isn't too bad a price either considering how delicious they taste. The staff here are awesome, and you can even watch them making doughnuts whilst you queue. They have loads of different varieties and seasonal flavours on offer. Plus you are able to buy boxes of doughnuts at a lower price than individuals ones when bought togther. A word for the wise - when you see a large queue here, as you so often will, do go and join it, because joining it equals a free doughnut and even a song by the vibrant Portuguese manager if your very lucky! Who said queueing was unfair? :D

I don't know how similar it is to the Canadian original, but I ruddy love a doughnut. Yes it's a bit commercial, yes it goes against my hating of chains, but I love it, (and so did my drunk Dad after pizza one time, as a Tim himself, there's a cracking photo of him looking gleeful posing with a box of Timbits- the fab donut holes) My favourite is hands down the apple fritter doughnut- It is just the amount of cinnamon you want.

Canadians (and some Americans) will no doubt jump for joy when they see their coffee institution in the UK. The oddest thing is that Tim Horton's of Canada (Tim Horton was an ice hockey player) is in the Spar shop. In Canada, I guess it's not the coolest place to go but I care more about the coffee tasting good. And like in Canada, it's cheaper than anywhere else and yet famously, they brew new coffee every 20 minutes which in my mind is pretty fresh. Let's not forget their bagels and doughnut treats too; Over the Atlantic there are many varieties to get addicted to but here in Birmingham, there is still a decent selection. If you go in, let me know if they start doing a 'sour cream glazed' and I'll be back in! This is my regular stop if I'm popping to the central library or running down Broad Street to Cineworld. I find a cup last me just till I get to the cinema door.

There were duplicates of lots of the food/drink huts and I expected a wider range of huts selling goods like toys and decorations. It felt very sparse compared to what I'd seen in previous year's photos. We checked the map to make sure we hadn't missed a section but I'm guessing they maybe took a hit post-covid because it just didn't hit the mark for us. Beautiful to walk around at night but very expensive, especially for the food options.

This is a yearly addition to the city centre with stalls selling festive treats ranging from chocolate and tasty treats through to toys and ornaments. The real thing people go here for however is the food and even more importantly the drink. This is the one time of the year that Birmingham city council lets allows people to drink on the street (in designated areas) and people 100% take advantage of this! The bars and stalls are always full with people enjoying a range of mulled drinks and beers. I am a big fan of this market and even though it can be a little pricy at times its a welcome addition to November/December in the city. Go get yourself an oversize glass of festive cheer and welcome the Christmas market back to Brum!

The decor is straight out of the opening credits for Fresh Prince of Bell Air - photos of celebrities line the walls and are covered in bright colored tags of fun phrases like "YOLO". There is plenty of seating, perfect for a pair or large groups. I wasn't very hungry, so I ordered the appetizer salad with pulled pork BBQ on top and shared a side of fried pickles. I was a little disappointed in the pulled pork. Being from North Carolina (home of pulled pork BBQ in the states) and eating at a place with smoke in the name, I was expecting smoked BBQ. The pork is just roasted like what you'd expect to come on a bap and lacks the tenderness that comes with slow smoking. The BBQ sauce at the table has a nice smoke flavoring added, so I was able to drown my salad in that for an approximation of the smoky flavor I craved. The salad portion is very generous and uses fresh veg. The fried pickles need a little tempura batter mixed in with the corn meal and maybe a little more time in the fryer for a better texture.

First of all, this restaurant is HUGE. Incredibly big and spacious, with an assortment of booths and tables and a huge bar. The decor of the place is awesome-- fun pieces of americana all over the place and funky graffiti all over the walls. But the highlight of every place is the food, and well, the food was just OK. I opted for a pulled pork sandwich, and a side salad instead of fries. The pork was good (mostly because they have a fantastic BBQ sauce) but definitely didn't taste slow-cooked. The salad was served without any dressing which was a bit weird, since it was huge and mostly lettuce. By the way, portions here- GIGANTIC. Come with an empty stomach! Neat selection of American beers. I don't know. I wasn't incredibly impressed, but my meal was satisfying, and the BBQ sauce is tasty. I'll have to try a few more things on the menu...

Especially as when we walked down the stairs, (on a Sunday afternoon) to the small basement shop, we were greeted by a huge queue! Now,I'd read about doughnotts from a vegan blog about the amazing range of vegan donuts that they offer and this spiked my interest, so the next time I was in Nottingham I made sure to try some of their delights. I'm not a vegan so tried their basic donuts of red velvet, chocolate and plain at a bargain of 3 for £5. They also do some super fancy premumium donuts that are slightly more expensive but looked absolutely spectacular! The donuts were absolutely delicious and were just as soft and tasty as the obvious big chain competitors. It also feels great to support a local business and I'm so pleased to hear that they have now opened another store in Derby. And before you ask... it's not called Doughderby.
