I have never felt better in my life and the friendships I have made are amazing. So many people say that Crossfit is an intimidating sport, but that is not the case! All of the trainers are great and really make sure that you're doing the movements correctly and at a comfortable weight level. They focus a lot on mobility which is great. And they focus on your goals and help you to achieve them. When I first started, I used to do almost all of the weightlifting in a workout with just a PVC pipe until I learned proper form. Now, almost 3 years later I am the strongest I have ever been in my life and I owe it all to S&S for their training and encouragement. And If there is a movement you can't do, they find a way to scale or modify it to accommodate you. They never make you feel left out or "not good enough". Everyone has to start somewhere and all of the athletes are incredibly supportive of your fitness journey. My husband has been a part of the CF community since I started too and the transformations we've both seen in our diets, bodies, and overall health is beyond anything we ever expected. I am writing this because I had been to more than 5 CrossFit gyms in the area and this one has blown me away. The other gyms can't even compare to Stars & Stripes. When I walk in I know that I will get amazing results and great coaches. Coach Adam has been an unbelievably amazing coach to me.. I am 100% deaf, and upon learning this, he immediately started to learn how to sign in American Sign Language. His inclusiveness really helped alleviate my fears as a deaf person in a mostly speaking environment. Communication is a key part of CrossFit and he helps remove those barriers so that everyone can reach their fitness goals. I highly recommend you to workout at Stars & Stripes CrossFit!

You can earn splat points, try to stay in the red the longest of the group or compete with yourself in the app. I think this is an amazing place for all levels of fitness. They have really innovative ways to keep members engaged throughout with gifts, pajama days, workout hell week. The coach's are helpful. If they see you doing something incorrect they will assist. The music playlist is pretty good! It's loud so you will have to put your listening skills to use, if you can't sweat, run, row and listen. This might not be a place for you. Another cool feature they have a really awesome functional app. You can purchase merch, see your progress & schedule your next class! Also you can see what new contest or themed week is coming up and participate. Now weird encounter today. I've been here for a month. I've been to different orangetheory's, people let me record since I'm a blogger and I'm strategically only recording myself since I'm far off to the corner. It was two coaches today on the floor & the floor coach talked to me quite a lot and she seen my phone and didn't say a word... until after the class. ‍ I get it but like other places didn't say a word. I would also assume common courtesy of not recording random people while working out, that's just weird. But example I'm on the treadmill (it's pretty high) so the camera is only on me. Even if someone walks behind me you can't even see their head. I'm on the rower and you can on see me and the wall. I have over 50k of followers and I usually record my workouts at gyms since I go so many places. Definitely won be posting this one. So if you want to record this isn't the place Troy specifically! Which again is totally understandable, people usually don't bring their phone in the workout area,. They pride themselves on 60-90 minutes without your device, which I'm sure everyone could utilize. I would say go into the nearest location to see what promotions they have. If you don't see anything you can always use this code: 2DTUCC

Although the HotWorx app itself could use some updating I do really like that it shows each level you hit based on how many calories you've burned. Hot yoga is 45 minutes and after doing hot cycle for 15 minutes may have been to much. You need an appointment which is easy thanks to their app and its open 24 hours.

Michelle is my favorite instructor and I really like her style of teaching: she's a little in-your-face (which I think is needed for the intensity of kickboxing) and really engaging. I've been to another instructor's class once or twice but found her to be slower-paced so I mostly stick to Michelle's classes. Definitely take a yoga mat, even when you go to kickboxing classes - there is about 10 minutes of stretching at the end of every class and mats are required for this portion.

I also realized that it was one more excuse that I didn't need to avoid exercising. A long time ago, I had a really good experience with a Personal Trainer, and decided that was what I needed to do. I came across Retrofit Studio reviews here on Yelp, sort of accidentally. I liked what I read from the reviews & their website. I liked the idea of a private studio too. I called Brad & set up a consultation. There is no doubt that Brad loves what he does & wants every client to be successful. He spent a lot of time listening & talking to me about realistic goals, nutrition, and what to expect. He decided to set me up with Mark, one of his trainers. So far, I have had 8 training sessions with Mark. When Brad said he was a good fit for me, he was right! My sessions are 30 minutes, 2 times a week. By the time I leave, I am a sweaty mess! Mark challenges me, makes sure I have good form, and always encouraging. If I don't do it right, I have to do it again. Every session varies to work different muscle groups, especially the areas that are difficult to target. As hard as he makes me work, I'm never too sore to exercise in between our sessions. That is important to me because I need to do my part outside of our sessions. Mark checks with me regarding my diet and what I'm doing to reach my weight loss goals between our sessions. I always have fun training with Mark even when it's really difficult. The studio itself is great. It's very clean, doesn't smell funky like a lot of gyms (ha!), and a great variety of training techniques & equipment. There are a few cardio machines for client use before or after a session. Every trainer is always encouraging clients, whether it's their client or not. What about results? I started to feel stronger right away and continue to feel that way. I'm steadily losing weight & seeing the jiggle disappear! My muffin top is shrinking! I asked my husband if he noticed any changes. The poor guy looked at me with slight fear of answering the wrong way. ha! I wanted an honest answer. I don't expect fast results, but I am curious if the changes I see are noticeable to others. He said that he has seen a big change. He said I have been a lot happier since I started training with Mark. I wasn't expecting that answer & it made me realize I haven't felt that way about getting in shape (or trying to) in a long time. It sort of made me all verklempt! This is one of the best decisions I've made in a long time!
