We like the newly renovated Swisshôtel Kursaal. When we came here it was just 5 days open. They…read morehave renovated already 100 of the total of 171 rooms. As I understood they are using currently only the renovated rooms. Switzerland is still in the 2nd lockdown so the Casino is not open and restaurants are for hotel guests only. We had 2 really modern and beautiful rooms on the 4th floor - all new and unused ;-). The interior of the hotel is very welcoming and the staff is so friendly. They have a self parking - cost 26 Swiss Francs but you can leave the car the whole day after departure- so you can explore the beautiful old city of Bern (walking distance). We even got for free, the Bern Tickets valid for two days to use the public transportation system of Bern. Don't know if this was just because of the lockdown ...other point the Mini-Bar (limited selection but still a nice gesture) was for free too. They have 2 restaurants the Yu (Japanese buffet) and the Gardino. To attract people they do all March 2021 the "Chef at Kursaal" event Friday and Saturday night - where each time Gourmet Chefs are presenting a nice dinner in the Gardino restaurant in combination with a hotel room for one night. Its a great and innovative idea during lockdown and the food, staff was great. An extraordinary dinner experience under the given circumstances. Because it's a one time thing I will not explain the food in more detail (let the pictures dpeak for themselves). Just something to the wine menu. It's the wine list from Gardino, which was a former gourmet restaurant (under a different name) they are using up some of the wine for really good prices. We got a 2014 Silex (Pouilly-Fume) from Didier Dagueneau !!! for 140 Swiss Francs and a Le Pergole Torte 2014 (yes I know, the 2016 would have been even better but it was already out) for 107 Swiss Francs - which is very close to retail prices- you even will have some issues finding those wines in the retail infir this price level. So great thing hope they still have a lot of bottles left in the cellar. Overall such a great experience and we were fortunate.
