Due to a severe storm in Greenville, TX, on June 19, 2019, a huge tree limb crashed onto my mom's…read morehouse, damaging her roof. Her insurance agent gave her Bret Hollon's (Hollon Custom Homes) contact info. Bret came to the house and met with my mom and me. He seemed great. We felt comfortable with him, so he and my mom signed a contract to replace her roof. He said he needed $4,200 up front for materials but agreed to accept the $3k Farmers had advanced her. The work was to be done on Thurs, 7/11. On Monday, 7/8, I called Bret to make sure all was good to go for my mom. He then told me he was going to need to get paid the remaining $5,700 in full on the day of the job. I told him my mom hadn't received the rest of the insurance, and wouldn't until the work was done, and she would pay him as soon as Farmers issued the check (as is written in Hollon's contract he had my mom sign AND as is the industry norm for the roofing business). He said he couldn't do that, he had to get paid in full that day, and, unbelievably, asked if I could loan her the money. I told him he needed to do the job as agreed or refund my mom her money. He said if he did that he would have to charge her a 25% material restocking fee, which I said was not agreeable. He then called the referring agent and the claims adjuster, who both told him his approach was not normal. The day the job was supposed to be done, I went to my moms house, knowing there was a good chance there would be issues. Sure enough, about 8:30 am Bret called my cell, chuckling over standing us up and "sticking to his guns." I again told him he needed to come do the job he had contracted to do. He said he had talked to his lawyer and would do the job if my mom would sign an assignment of benefits. We declined, citing the fact that she had already signed his contract (and so had he), and she had already paid him $3k. He said he'd have to talk to his lawyer again and get back to us the following week. All the while, all we wanted was for him to either do the work or refund her money. Eventually, after talking to the Farmers agent yet again, Bret Hollon agreed to refund my mom's money and walk away, and he finally refunded my mom $2,800 of her $3k (withholding $200 for a 1 sq ft piece of tarp he had put over a small hole in the roof), with Farmers graciously making her whole on the remaining $200. As an interesting post-script, when we finally found a reliable roofer, the materials Bret Hollon claimed he needed $4,200 for, cost right at $3k.

I contracted with Hollon Custom Homes after a major hail and wind storm in early June caused damage…read moreto my roof and a wall/fence on the side of my property. Bret was easy to work with and communicative each step of the way. I knew I could trust him to get the job done and to do it well. When he examined the fence and the insurance adjuster's recommendations, he discovered extensive additional storm damage to a brick wall connected to the fence. He worked tirelessly to negotiate with our insurance company, and even pushed them to send a second insurance adjuster out to reassess the damage. We had the worst time trying to get answers from our insurance company, but Bret repeatedly called and emailed with them to advocate on our behalf. Ultimately we were successful and received additional funds to complete some very costly repairs. On my own, I would not have known to push back so hard and probably would have given up, so I'm thankful Bret was there to help move the process along. His roofing team completed our roof in one day and did a great job. A couple of days after the roof was put on, I realized that a piece of debris had fallen into the duct that connects to my kitchen range vent/fan thing, but Bret personally returned as soon as possible to clear it out. We've had a rainstorm since the new roof was put on and everything is watertight! I will be recommending Hollon Custom Homes to any of my friends or coworkers who need repairs or remodeling. Bret is honest, hardworking, and committed to making sure any project associated with his name is done well.

We hired Adam after reading reviews about DFW Fence Doctor and finding his number listed on…read moreironfencedallas.com, DFW Fence Doctor's wrought iron division. Though you might find Adam associated with the ironfencedallas.com website and DFW Fence Doctor, he is NOT associated with them. His work is sloppy and he does not stand by his work to fix the problem, even after given plenty of opportunities to fix the issues. Here's a little rundown of the nightmare and headache we dealt with because of Adam: - I initially texted him and he was very responsive when getting information about the work we needed, which was to refinish/repaint the iron railing on our front porch. - He completed the work a few weeks later and the day he finished my wife was working (and the paint was still drying so I couldn't get a great read on the quality of the work), but he told me that once she/we had a chance to inspect the railing after it fully dried, it wouldn't be a problem for him to come out and fix any issues if we saw anything. - The next day we inspected the work and there were several problems. The paint was already peeling off in numerous areas, and he got overspray on both the stone and brick on the porch. I texted pictures to Adam, and he said he'd come out the next day and said "I'll get it fixed for you". - After a few days of no updates, I texted again and didn't hear back. I gave him a few days and texted again, and he said he would stop by later that week. He never stopped by. I texted again, no response. I tried calling him and got a vague non-answer that he had stopped by (when? I don't know, because I was home nearly all day and never saw him), and fixed some things but couldn't fix everything and had to come back. - After more texts and calls for updates when he never showed back up (we're now at about 6 weeks since the initial work was done), my wife tried calling him. Surprise surprise, he answered right away since he didn't know to ignore her number like he had been ignoring mine. He told her he'd come by "no later than Wednesday" to fix the problems. He never showed. On Thursday, my wife sent multiple texts and tried calling multiple times, and he never responded. - I then texted him again, saying we felt like we deserved a refund for the poor work and complete lack of follow through. That got a response from Adam, who claimed he was "out of town this week on an emergency call since Wednesday" and "just saw multiple messages and texts" from my wife after getting my message (conveniently, he apparently didn't have phone service all week until my message came through?). Even if the emergency call story is true, he lacked all decency to communicate that with either me or my wife to let us know of the situation. - According to Adam, I hired him, and my wife didn't. So, in his words, "I'll communicate with you and she needs to talk to you". In other words, "I accidentally answered when she called because I didn't know she was calling to voice concerns and now I'm ignoring her". He also claimed that this seems to be a "husband/wife dispute" for some reason. I've never once hired a contractor who refused to talk to my wife about the job because, and I quote, "a man cannot serve two masters". Basically, he'll answer an unknown number the first time because he wants the business, but after that he'll ignore you if you're voicing concerns. And if you're married, you'd better make sure you're both there when he agrees to start the job, otherwise only one of you is allowed to talk to him. You can find Adam's information on fencerepairdallastx.com, dfwfencebuilders.com and dallaspoolfence.com (that should be a red flag right there, that he needs multiple websites and business names...). Please save your money and avoid using him because you will just have to have the work redone by someone else!

I had no issues until we needed it to be fixed a few months down the road. Nothing major, loose panels, disconnected panels, shifting of gates from our soil.
