I am unsure what is up with the degraded signal, but my guess is that the carrier wants to bulldoze the station into higher rates. That is a shame, but it is different than Austin, TX, where carriers just drop the signal altogether until an agreement is reached. We hope that happens soon! read more

Really lousy reception every night during prime time. It's like they dumb down the signal, thinking you'll pay for Paramount+ to watch their lame shows. The FCC should regulate them better. Their advertisers should also complain, because if we don't get the channel in clearly during prime time, then they are getting ripped off by KPHO since we can't see the ads either. read more

Kpho channel 5 used to be my favorite channel but lately you you run a story into the ground and run the weather into the ground. We all know it's hot you don't have to tell us the same shit over and over there is other news out there. All you have to do is look for it. Stop repeating the same stories to fill time. Cannot believe the horrid English grammar used by your reporters! Hear it often but had to comment on one of reporters on scene reporting on the weather using the term 'more windier'! It actually made me cringe. The correct term is windier or more windy! NEVER 'MORE WINDIER'. Several of reporters have used this term and other grammatically incorrect phrases. They all might need a brush up on grammar! Oh, just heard another blooper! It is NOT a gardener snake! It is a garter snake which is harmless. This from another reporter on a flooded Parker in Gilbert where children were playing in the water and someone found a snake. I have seen commercials cut off your news reports and tv shows many times lately. I guess your station must be rather hard up for money or just greed. Why does CBS continually broadcast their evening programs with the background music way above the voice speaking level!!!! It is impossible to hear what the person is saying because of the level of background music. You have to read lips when possible. ABC and NBC don't do that!! What's the point???? There is a reason there are so many bad reviews here-it's because they are bad! Tonight they are running Emil's magic cooker instead of 60 minutes! This happens all the time- Saturday mornings for instance. The broadcast team is a great bunch. It is their support that make them look so bad (and still no revolt?). The people in the booth are BONEHEADS. They run the wrong programs like tonight, they cut off their own co-worker broadcasters mid sentence to go to a commercial (yes, John D. it is a money decision to make themselves look bad, so long as the money is coming in). I reached out to them about a year ago on their poor broadcasts and the message received was that they don't listen to the viewers or just don't care what we have to say. Note the turnover- even by broadcasters that have been there for years (see Javier Soto). But the worst part is that they aren't doing anything to up their game-they are happy being losers! read more

I can't help but notice that when I was young(er), the networks ran a season of a show at 26 episodes. Or 25. Or 24. Or... Now, shows like Blue Bloods and SEAL Team and other magnificent shows are getting 18 or 19 episodes made. And hardly a week goes by when another rerun is aired. Let's stretch out a season of tv by adding reruns of the shows between episodes and making more of those sing and dance and other stuff that is really, really cheap to make and has no plot or writing or actors. The ridiculous banter and comments that they seem to think are so clever - fall flat to an audience expecting a serious take on the news from an otherwise serious news channel. Do they think they are clever? Just cover the news people. We don't care about you, we don't know you, we don't want to be your friends, we just want you to present us with an unbiased reading of the important news stories that affect us all. And for all the reasons you like it here, ditto and more. The people are generally friendlier and kiddies are the cutest. It seems much more family oriented here and without getting too deeply into politics, CA was just way too liberal with EVERYTHING !!! Can't believe how often this station screws up the program. They go black, they start the show over again half way through the program. If it's constant equipment failure, then get it fixed. If it is a human asleep at the helm, they need to reconsider their career path and the station should encourage that. I continue to wonder why KPHO reporters are so casual about complete reporting. Example, actually two examples from the same newscast this evening (5-17). Two stories about high schools. One told us about a high school yearbook from a school in San Tan Valley and mentioned the Florence district. Good so far. What was the name of the school? No mention of that. The second was a story about parents getting into a tussle at a high school graduation without telling us where that school is located. If these guys spent more time ensuring the completeness of their news and less on recycling news with no meaningful updates, their newscast would be better. How many times did we need to see the breast implant story last week? I'm also weary about the continual pimping of their news. Fewer pimps during the news would result in more news stories, even if they are recycled and incomplete. Channel 5 coverage of last night's presidential debate was hilarious. One would think there was equal sparring, equal lying, and equal interruptions. Best part was playing Biden's exasperated "Shut up, man!" as if it was a reply to a Trump comment, not a reaction to the umpteenth interruption by the Toddler President. Every mother of a preschooler watching wanted to put lil don in time out. Channel 5 news staff showed almost as much maturity with this "review". No Pulitzer likely for you guys. read more

Station Manager: My rating is primarily for the evening news. First let me say that I have switched to Channel 15 for the evening local pitch. I like their team, with Katie R. and Steve I. They are a well suited team to present the news and I give them a BIG thumbs up! I don't know why Brandon L. does most of the evening news reporting alone? Why can't Yetta G. be there along side of him sharing the station news for both evening news times? When I see them together, more often, I find what is being presented far more interesting, they too make a good team. Brandon is rather stoic (his personality trait I am sure) so a little levity to what is being presented would help. My friend thinks your stand alone evening news reporter is somewhat robotic. Take a look at how Katie and Steve on Channel 15, do their presentations. Having Brandon and Yetta working together far more often would help! I do switch back and forth at times to see if there are any changes. For years Channel 5 was my choice for all the news. And you move people around and I can't help but wonder, is this your way of moving them on to "greener pastures?" And I always found Paul H. to be highly effective. This Phoenix Area TV Station KPHO CBS 5 has went from a decent tv news station to become the laughingstock of local Phoenix TV,every since it hired former has beens from Ch 12 TV in Phoenix..And the station has such poor quality control room station engineers that just in example on Saturday Oct 8,2011 they allowed a very annoying bleed over of hard rock music go out over their TV airwaves for several hours and left their tv weather computer breakdown all night. We have been dedicated watchers of CBS for 47 years, and also Ch 3 since they were formed. We are EXTREMELY disappointed that we are still 'blacked out' because we are on satellite and don't have the ability to utilize other sources such as an antenna. We are concerned that we won't get to see the Fall Previews because this childish thing has gone on toooooo long and we believe that the childish pants need to be pulled up to become adult pants. I called because CBS station had no volume on our tv for two days??? I spoke with a woman at the station who was very helpful. She placed me on a brief hold and the problem was solved in 5 minutes! She advised me to just rescan my tv stations (we don't have cable tv) Viola! Problem solved. She told me to call back if it didn't work, but no need because that was the fix! read more

I like certain shows on Ch. 5 but recently there was no sound for half an hour on the season finale of Madam Secretary, which totally ruined it for me. I watch Stephen Colbert and on 2 different nights no sound, so I switched to the Kimmy Kimmel show. Another night, no sound on the Blue Bloods show so I called Dish my satellite carrier and they said it's the stations fault. On Thursday I watched the noon news on Ch. 5 and the picture was cut in half (what should be the lower portion of a clip was on the top and visa versa). So I called Ch. 5. As usual the line was busy as it always is whenever I try to call. This is not professional service and they are losing me. But I'll miss those good shows. Too bad Ch. 5. read more

Channel 5 is the worst station in the valley for streaming, they have by far the best live shows but you can't watch them with all the buffering. Live football games are a joke, the Cowboys game on Thanksgiving was almost unwatchable in the second half with all the buffering. If channel 5 wants to be competitive in the future maybe spending a few bucks on newer equipment would be an appropriate expenditure. read more

And Chris Pickel is a terrible replacement for Anaya. This family will no longer be watching news & weather on Ch 5. Don't know who is in charge of staff but they sure are doing a terrible job. Possibly giving interns a go at broadcasting? Trying to mix it up sure isn't working.. . We're gone as are many other people we know..Looks like the merger was not a very good thing. The reception up here sucks and there are NO TOWERS UP HERE. I think it's time to get the TOWERS UP HERE TOO don't you ?? There are plenty of mountains or hills up here and don't try n tell me you don't have the monies for this ............. last election you collected enough monies that year to pay for it's self ( the charge for the Presidential Races Commercial's.) Look I love you guys n gals. I just can't get the reception out here. And I have looked @ the prices for the cable companies out here. Man they are expensive .......... not in my life time, sorry ! I live paycheck to paycheck folks. And I'm 64 years young. (LOL) ....... I wish I could watch more of you all @ Channel 5. Sorry, KPHO, but you suck the big one tonight! When I got home Thursday night, expecting to watch some of my favorite shows on Ch. 5, all I got - on two tv's (admittedly over-the-air/antenna only) was NO CHANNEL! Lost completely. Tried manually configuring on ch. 17; NOTHING! No Channel... Figured they'd have it fixed by morning; still NOTHING. Went to work and came home Friday; STILL NOTHING! Took Ch. 7 with 'em, too, though. KPHO's been off the air for well over 24 hours now...well, at least for antenna users. I find that kinda suspicious being that tonight's the start of March Madness. Even more suspicious that PAID satellite and cable users are up and running just fine, but antenna users have been blocked out. Well, Channel 5-tell-it-like-it-is, Thanks for encouraging me to find content on other channels that don't treat their (free ota) viewers like s**t. read more
