If I could give zero stars to Medina Eye Care, I would. I am not sure why this optometry clinic has…read moreso many glowing 5-star reviews. My initial appointment here in July 2025 was for my annual eye exam with Dr Arthur Medina himself. But needless to say, this will certainly be my last one with him. His manners were absolutely horrible and unprofessional :( !
At most eye clinics, usually the optometrist is very careful about using his or her gadgets and optical equipment on patients to minimize risk of any potential injury. Much to my horror, Dr Medina almost pushed his optical equipment into my face when he said he would bring it to me, instead of the other way around. He also got too close, and I had to ask him to step away because I felt that he didn't allow a decent amount of comfortable distance between me and him. There was always an assistant in the room, But even so, he would tap on my leg, which I thought was creepy and odd.
I was really turned off by how he was so quick to judge the previous optometrists I went to before. He had the audacity to say that they weren't good, they weren't telling me certain things I needed to know, etc. How the heck does he know? Has he ever been a patient for any of them before to make that unfair judgement?
He also decided on too high of a contact lens prescription, which gave me major headaches and required me to return to his office to get a subsequent evaluation by CJ, another optometrist who worked there. CJ is really the only reason for 5 stars because his manners were so much better and so much more professional than Dr Medina himself, and the rest of the staff. He also corrected my contact lens prescription to a more mild one that suited my needs better.
However, I wasn't too happy overall that Medina Eye Care (especially Dr Medina himself) did not give me my prescriptions for my glasses and contacts on the same day when I had initially seen him. When I had asked, his assistant Paige said I wouldn't be getting these right away, that I would have to wait. I also didn't like how I was charged for a contact lens fitting when they did not do one right then and there. Both she and Shelby claimed that they had to charge for this first before they could even order my contact lens trial pair. But I think this is nonsense :( ! If you haven't done the actual contact lens fitting, you shouldn't even charge the patient yet!
I also didn't like how Dr Medina would not fill out the paperwork for what should have been my Medically Necessary contact lenses. I have always qualified for this in the past. And I tried to reason with Medina Eye Care that all of my previous optometrists have determined this qualification. I even had to reach out to VSP to talk to Medina Eye care and ask them to submit the necessary diagnosis codes to help me because even VSP said I should qualify.
Unfortunately, much to my horror, Medina Eye Care would not budge, even after VSP talked to them.
Because of Medina's lousy overall customer service, VSP arranged for me to have a second opinion with another optometry office.
It was such an overall horrendous experience that I will never forget :( !
First of all, no customer should ever have their prescriptions withheld like that. Most optometry offices provide the written prescriptions for both glasses and contacts the same day you see them, even though it's understandable that most vision insurances such as VSP or EyeMed cover just one or the other, but not both glasses and contacts.
Second of all, Medina Eye Care really should have done their part and not deny me from qualifying for Medically Necessary contacts. It's a well-known fact that vision usually stays the same or becomes worse. It only really "gets better" or potentially improves if you get LASIK.
Needless to say, I won't be coming back here, nor would I recommend anyone to come here either :( !
