Unfortunately, he was not in for my appointment, and I was seen by Dr. Camacho. Even with me not being her patient, she was great and treated me as if I was. She was very thorough, did all the regular exams with dilation, and had me do a field of vision test (call out to Perfecto as he always does such a great job administering the test. He is so friendly and efficient). If I was not so very happy with how Dr. Kozlovsky has treated me, I would easily move to her. She was that good. Will I return? I went in for my free screening to see if I was a viable candidate and everyone in the office during that visit was wonderful. They answered all of my questions that I had about the various tests that they were performing and they answered them in a professional, but pleasant manner. Yesterday was my surgery day and everything went to plan. My mother drove me to the Alamo Vision Center, the surgery took about 15 mins and I was immediately able to see clearly, leafs on trees etc. I was sensitive to light immediately afterwards, which is normal, and after arriving home and taking about a 2 hour nap I could see so well I could watch tv, read, etc with no problem. The next day(today) I went in to the office for my check up and Dr. Rashid said that everything looked perfect and I could read the 20:15 line for the vision check! I began researching Opthamologists over the course of a month, in order to find someone to evaluate me for cataract surgery. After reviewing backgrounds and credentials of numerous doctors, I decided to visit Dr Roger Velasquez. Dr Velasquez has a solo practice (rare, these days). Setting up the initial appt was easy via his website. Upon checking in for my first visit, I was greeted by very courteous and efficient admin staff. His Techs are very thorough, courteous and efficient as well. I was VERY impressed with Dr Velasquez during my initial visit. He is very respectful and courteous. He takes his time during exam and ensures that any concerns or questions are thoroughly answered. He DOES NOT rush you through. After conducting his evaluation of my cataracts, he explained my options and also informed me that I had a condition known as Fuchs Dystrophy. We discussed cataract surgery and scheduled the first surgical date 2 wks out at an Outpatient Surg facility. That went extremely well, as did the cataract surgery for the second eye at a later date. Dr Velasquez took the time to visit with me bedside during surgical prep, which I appreciated. Each surgical date was followed by a next day and a couple of subsequent followup appts. My final appt was today (July 17). Every experience I had with Dr Velasquez during appts and surgery was outstanding. He's very knowledgeable, caring and great at explaining diagnosis or answering questions. This episode of care began the very day that our country went on lockdown due to the Covid pandemic. Like other businesses, Dr Velasquez' clinic was hit hard due to a govt mandated pause on outpatient surgeries. In spite of all this, I'd say Dr Velasquez and his staff did an outstanding job. They continued to monitor their patients and operate the clinic with a very limited staff. I'd give them an A+ for their safety precautions as well. Lastly, my cataract surgical procedures were highly successful. Vision is great. What an astounding difference, as my vision is now crystal clear. I was referred to this practice after a regular eye exam with an optometrist. The staff is…read morepleasant, but the long waiting time is disrespectful of the patient's time. Over the years, the waiting has only gotten worse. Don't bother showing up on time for your appointment. They're ALWAYS LATE. I've been going to this office for a few years. At my most recent visit, I waited nearly an hour. I was literally getting up to walk out when they finally came out to the lobby to call me in for my appointment. Once you make your way past the waiting area, it's more waiting as you're escorted between rooms for various test. Clearly, they are scheduling appointments so that they overlap. This technique ensures that the doctor remains busy all the time, while you wait and wait and wait. The communication between the doctor and patient is minimal. You can spend an hour or more shuffling between one eye test to the next, but the results are NEVER shared with you. If you ask for specific results, such as eye pressure readings, they will be provided. If you don't ask, nothing is shared with you. What about all the other tests that you just had? What were they for? How did the results compare to previous results? Have things changed? In my opinion, they're "too busy." They've opened a 2nd location - both are a far from each other. That means each location has half the available appointment times, as the doctor splits his time between venues. The website boasts of a portal for you to review the results of the exam. Information is never posted to the portal. Never. The waiting area is sterile with only standard office chairs. If they expect patients to wait for their appointment for up to an hour... or longer, they need to set up areas where patients can get some work done. Install high tables with USB ports and lots of outlets.

I waited three days, drove to the office, and got the same song and dance. The next day, I called the main number, and I asked for the Relationship Manager, but the person refused to provide the information. only to find out the person on the phone was not an MCOA employee, and all she could do was inform her manager, who would notify MCOA, and yes, you guessed it, they would call me. They were head and shoulders above their contemporaries until EyeSouth Partners of Atlanta, Georgia, took over. Finally, the rating and the facts provided have nothing to do with doctors.
