This gym has a theft problem. While I was working out, someone got into my locked locker, took the…read morecredit cards out of my wallet, locked it back up, and went shopping. By the time I was done exercising, they spent a total of $2,000 at Nordstrom. I spent weeks dealing with the bank to get my money back. The LA Fitness staff didn't seem to care. They just said that they don't have cameras in the locker rooms, so there's not much to be done about it. There is something the staff could do to prevent theft: greet members when they come in the door! When I come in and scan my barcode, the person at the desk is usually scrolling on their phone, and they don't even look up to acknowledge me. If the staff greeted every person who came in the door, then it would give people the idea that the staff are attentive, and they would be less likely to burglarize lockers. Since this incident, I stopped leaving valuables in my locker and got a different combo lock. Nevertheless, someone got into my locked locker again (I could tell because my bag was rearranged, as if someone had gone through it). On the plus side, this is a huge gym with a ton of equipment. I can usually get onto whatever equipment I need without much of a wait. There's also plenty of parking, and it's a convenient location.

Located near Costco on Morena, King of Padel only has 4 pickleball courts but there are also some courts for padel ball. We snagged Court 9, which is located in another part of the building with Court 10. Thankful that we ended up finding a spot to play but these courts aren't the best. There's not much room to back up and we would often run into the walls or accidentally hit the walls when serving. Also, you can't really lob the ball because of how low the ceiling fan is. There's also no clock in the room so make sure you keep track of your reservation! The total cost ended up being $20 for an hour on Sunday morning. Despite some of the downsides of the indoor courts, the price for the entire hour wasn't bad at all. It's a great alternative if you really can't find anything else in the area.

Originally why I stopped coming was due to how crowded and unorganized it was which was such a deterrent! After the recent remodel with up to 18-20 Squat Racks, additional benches/dumbbells, and more Leg Machines, I started coming here over my favored UTC, but now that UTC downgraded from 11 Racks to 6 and removed the outdoor area in favor of potential Pickleball Courts I will not be going back unless they can bring back what they had before or even better as it's not a great place to go anymore for a Powerbuilding workout. For a Push Pull Leg workout between 3-5 days a week Balboa really hits better now and my only gripes are if they had more of the nice water bottle refill stations and cleaned the bathroom more since people come in from the pool and leave the ground wet, but the plumbing and cleanliness here is still better than at UTC which seemed to not make any changes on that front. If the dumbbells were organized as well that would be great but I can see how hard it is to manage. Overall this is my new home for now and definitely would recommend as it's not as seemingly as crowded before with more equipment availability. 3 stars but I would put 4 if the place itself was more organized and bathroom was always clean and dry!

They have two spots one for beginners and one for intermediate players. I went to the beginners one and it was pretty nice. It costs 14$ and you can play for as long as you want. Flower Cock is provided for free to use but you have to bring raquets. If you don't have them they are available to rent also. If you come here for the first time you're gonna have to register and sign some waiver. You have to reserve a court and reservation lasts 30 mins, then you can reserve for next available time. I went on Saturday noon and it wasn't too busy and I am glad it wasn't smelly cause the last badminton place I went to was MUSTYYY. There's tons of parking and even a plaza nearby with lots of food options for post badminton grub!!

I play at Smash pretty often, so I feel like I have a pretty fair idea of the pros and cons LOL…read more Smash is currently the only private badminton gym in SD, which is honestly a huge reason why I still come here a lot. Otherwise, your options are mostly rec centers or school facilities that you have to be enrolled in to use. There are 2 locations just a few doors away from each other. Smash 2 is mostly for paid training and court reservations, while Smash 1 is where most of the regular play happens. Both sides have 7 badminton courts. Membership is ~$70/month with a one-time $10 initiation fee, and drop-ins are $14/day. They have in-house stringing, some rackets and birdies you can buy, and I believe they have some loaner rackets if you don't have one. They also have coaches for different levels, and there are definitely some good coaches here. If you're interested in paid training, pricing varies depending on the coach. One of the best things about Smash is that you can play pretty late, which is really convenient if you can only play at night. You can actually stay and keep playing past the front desk hours if you're already inside. But once the front desk hours are closed, there's no re-entry and new check-ins. So basically if you want to play late, get there before they close. Parking is also pretty easy. If it's busy, court reservations are usually 30 minutes though. If it's not busy, you can just play on whatever court. If you want to play singles, you can ask the front desk to lock the court so people don't hop in. If you come alone, just know that a lot of people already have their own groups. Not everybody is looking to play a game, some people are just hitting. You can definitely meet new people here, but you may have to mingle a bit since some groups are pretty set. I'd honestly recommend bringing someone if you can. It can also get REALLY crowded depending on the time, and wait times can sometimes be up to an hour. My biggest complaint is definitely the cleanliness. The gym could be cleaned a LOT more often, and the bathrooms aren't the best. The weightlifting equipment is also very basic and kind of beat up, so I wouldn't count on this place for a real weightlifting workout. That being said, I still play here a lot because my friends play here. It's convenient and there really isn't another competitor. Smash definitely has room for improvement, especially with cleanliness and upkeep, but I'm glad we have a dedicated place to play badminton at night.
