I'm only giving a two star, and that's after three visits! Beautifully outfitted and with a nice sunny open courtyard, Kotare is the newly opened cafe in Springlands. At first the food looked appetising, very large portions (so big it would be better to share) and a bit pricey... coffee and something sweet will set you back $10-$11. There's also a bkfst menu with a few options around the $16-$18 mark. The food overall is disappointing, I've tried the cinnamon bun, the brownie and had high hopes for the custard square (after being convinced at the til it was amazing) but with undercooked pastry, a stodgy filling and slathered with swirls of chilled (as in hard) buttercream it was not enjoyable. Even the complimentary brownie bite on my flat white had a burnt taste (do they use the end bits?). Not worth another visit unless they massively up their game. read more
