Dr. Shakil is warm, smiled often during our telehealth visit, made me laugh, and had a lot of wisdom in knowing what to do with various medication interactions. I made an appointment through her website - just scrolled to select a day and time. It was that simple. I got a confirmation email confirming that I'd requested the appointment. The next business day, I got a confirmation email that the office could, in fact, accommodate my visit request and a phone call to verify my insurance, ask if I had any questions, and ask to which email the office should send new patient paperwork. Again - so simple. Seeing a psychiatrist can feel overwhelming because they collect a lot of seemingly disjointed yet personal information at once in a short period of time. They need medicine history, family history, a list of current concerns, plus your desired treatment outcomes. In the past, I've felt like psychiatrists were going down a checklist, not making eye contact and therefore not concerned with the painful emotions connected to the information they asked me to describe. Dr. Shakil's visit felt personable yet still very professional. I felt like I could tell her about my goals for myself as a whole person and she validated how hard I'd been working. I liked this because there is a stigma that psychiatry is for people who are "crazy" or "incompetent." This is so not the case! I'm a highly educated, successful community member, and I walk confidently in that. So, to know that Dr. Shakil sees me as a person AND to feel like she values my input into care decisions is invaluable. I intentionally chose to live in Frisco because I wanted fabulous healthcare access. Dr. Shakil did not disappoint. Her receptionist is also fabulous, by the way. She reminded me when I hadn't yet filled out my new patient paperwork (I work a lot and dislike online paperwork). She also accommodated my request to drop-off the information that I didn't feel comfortable sending online. If that extra step made her job tougher, I wouldn't know it. My son has severe ADHD and anxiety, and had just suffered an overdose. He agreed to seek help. He…read moremissed his intake appointment with Dr Shakil due to an anxiety attack, and when he called to reschedule it, he was told that a note had been put in his chart stating "do not schedule," and he was told that he is untrustworthy. I called their office back and confirmed the information; the receptionist said that Dr. Shakil's policy was one missed appointment meant the patient could no longer be scheduled. Coming from a mental health practitioner this is a cruel and uncaring way to treat patients who are already struggling with everyday tasks. The only reason I persevered with this office was because my son's insurance requires a referral from his PCP. If your insurance doesn't require referrals, seek another practice.

On January 2, 2024 I went for an annual exam at Dr. Huerta's office. On March 14, 2024 I received a…read morebill for $945.87 from Dr. Huerta's office. They claimed that I did not have insurance. I sent them the insurance information on March 14, 2024 and they agreed to reprocess the claim. As of May 30, 2024, they never reprocessed the claim. I called the office and they rudely told me to file with insurance on my own even though they are a Preferred Provider on the plan. They claim to have contacted my insurance company, Surest. I was logged into my Surest account while on the phone with the office. There is no EOB on file with the insurance company from Dr. Huerta's office. The office person still rudely told me that she would not process the claim. I asked to speak to the office manager. She transferred me, but the office manager did not return my call. All I am asking them to do is to properly process the claim that they have contracted to do with Surest as a Preferred Provider. I also sent an email to Dr. Huerta's office and have received no response.

The front desk is rude, the billing department are borderline fraudulent (be on the lookout for double billing, erroneous, and unexplainable charges). If you call to make an appointment you'll be transferred to a call center overseas. TeleHealth is a nightmare, they'll insist on random charges upfront before transferring you back to the doctors in the US to be seen (you wont get a receipt or explanation of what the charges are for). You'll wait an hour (on average) over your scheduled appointment time before being seen, and you'll get to overhear everyone's personal details shared with the front desk, as lines go out the door.
