I waited around 45minutes to be connected with the receptionist. It was a very long wait BUT it was well worth it! Upon answering a few of the receptionist's questions, I was transferred to a woman whom did asked me intake questions. I was then assigned an attorney. It took him less than 24 hours to get back to me and he was GREAT! He was helpful, informative, and seemed to genuinely care about my case. He even helped me fill out my claim form.. I went and waited in the waiting area and when I was called I was immediately told to give my ID he kept it for a few and then said you need to make an appointment and you can't do anything without one. I asked what do I need at the appointment and the employee said your ID. Then I said you have it right there so can't you do it now. He said you can't do anything without an appointment. The cherry on top was that I paid $13 for parking just to make an appointment that took an hour. They need to put up signs saying if you don't have an appointment then don't bother.

Despite providing a detailed statement and officers confirming the suspect's identity (even showing me his mugshot), the case was never properly investigated or escalated. I later tried to use this police report to obtain a restraining order in court--twice. Both were denied, likely because the report was misclassified and not treated with the seriousness it deserved. I've followed up in person, submitted a sworn declaration, and filed formal complaints with Internal Affairs and the Inspector General due to the ongoing pattern of neglect. It's disheartening to see public safety so heavily dependent on whether officers personally decide to believe and advocate for you. Survivors shouldn't have to fight the system harder than they fought their abuser.

My favorite local branch! Rossi is SO amazing and kind. She always greets me and my children with…read moreso much kindess and enthusiasm. She has also recommended some stellar selections. This isn't the closet library to my house but I drive a little further out for the relationship we have cultivated with the staff. I especially love that there is a small park that shares a parking lot with the library. My kids can get their wiggles out, I can sit in some shade and enjoy a book and it's fenced off for their safety. Also there's a water refill station! So that's a very nice perk. I can't say enough good things about Washington Irving library. It literally feels like home away from home where everyone knows your face. This particular branch also has a very large children's section!! We have yet to run out of interesting reads. There's also almost always a book cart out front with free retired books and I have managed to find some real gems in there to add to my home library. Very cool.
