I have been an Inspire K-9 client for almost 4 years, since the business was in Alton (now located in Barnstead in the business park on the Depot Street turn after the post office). This has grown from an excellent business to an outstanding one over the past few years as the facility, class offering, and staffing have increased. The owner, Megan Area is certified, highly knowledgeable, and passionate about animals. She's provided direct, immense support to me through the years and I appreciate her direct, systematic approach. She is currently helping me to work through dominance issues between the 3 dogs in my home and has adapted an offering to meet our unique needs. She has committed to helping us sort through all avenues and changes we need to make in order to restore peace and ensure safety in the home. Through the years, I have taken classes and workshops with 2 of my dogs for agility, sport, obedience, pre-k and kindergarten, scent, retrieving, trick, and dock diving. I have done this alone (great night out), as date night with my husband, and as bonding time with my son. The trainers have all been high quality and I have appreciated the small class sizes for specialty training topics. We have also had significant in-home consultation for specific behaviors and have been working with the (newer) day-training program. My favorites are agility, scent and intro to sport (particularly the rally aspect). As soon as my schedule changes, Rally is on our hit list.

I was nervous to drop her off for the 2 week board and train, but I can honestly say that it was worth every penny and I am still in shock at how much she learned. When I dropped her off she would pull on the leash and could not be left unattended for any amount of time because she would get into everything! Now she walks by my side (even off leash), sits and stays until released, does "place" on a raised area (stays until released) and no longer jumps at anything and everything that walks near her! I don't like bad pet stores, and I'm pretty vocal about it, so after reading all the terrible reviews online about this place, I decided to stop in to see if a pet store as bad as the reviews made it sound really existed. Boy am I glad that I did! The place has the same smell that any pet store that houses reptiles has; it isn't an offensive smell, and it ain't because the place is dirty. Far from it - this place is immaculate. The animals are obviously very well cared for, and they're all very, very tame, from the rodents to the reptiles. They've got the tamest sugar gliders I've ever seen anywhere, ever, and that includes at breeders. The gliders here come running to the door of the cage to beg for treats! The owner of the store, Stacy, was super nice and super friendly. She didn't avoid me, follow me around the store, or stare at my tattoos like most pet store employees do, and I appreciate that. I went in looking for a companion for my rat, who just lost his cage mate. There weren't any male rats on the sales floor, and she was kind enough to let me go out back with her to pick out my own from the breeder bins. The babies are obviously handled, since they weren't terrified and most of them were pretty content to be held. The cages were all immaculate and reasonably spacious, particularly by pet store standards. Many of the displays are hand made, and are pretty. Prices are very reasonable, especially for a small, privately owned store. The selection isn't what you'd find in a larger store, but this place is on the smaller side, and is absolutely packed to the brim with some pretty cool stuff. I didn't notice any dog or cat stuff, but that doesn't mean it wasn't there - I was just too busy looking at the bird and small animal stuff! Stacy took the time to walk me around the store, talk about the animals there, ask me about my plethora of pets, talk about the personalities of some of the critters in the store, and really took the time to have a conversation with me, and never tried to sell me anything. It was, as far as I'm concerned, the perfect pet store experience. If you're in to reptiles, fish, and small critters, this place is where it's at. It's highly recommended!

A lot of great exhibits designed to educate kids of all ages about what a watershed is, how fish migrate; kids can check out live turtles, snakes, and eels. Run by the Audobon Society of NH and sponsored by Eversource, this is a great stop for kids. The best part? The price of admission is up to you, donate whatever you like (or not) - my preschoolers did not want to leave. This is really a cool stop!
