This place is special. Walking in feels less like entering a restaurant and more like being…read morewelcomed into someone's home. The woman who runs the restaurant is an absolute force. You can tell this is truly a family operation. There is such attentive and impeccable service here. Every time I've been, I've felt genuinely welcomed and taken care of. The food is absolutely outstanding. I've been back multiple times now, and my favorite is the spiced pork wontons with noodles. The wontons are crispy and juicy on the inside, and the noodles soak up all the spicy oil flavor. This is the kind of dish I find myself thinking about later. The mango crispy chicken is another must-order. Crispy chicken with that sweet mango flavor sounds simple enough, but it just works. It has a perfect balance of sweet and spicy, my favorite combination. Oakland Tea House is exactly the kind of small, family-run restaurant I love finding. Great food is one thing, but great food combined with genuine hospitality is what makes a place memorable. I will always find my way back to this place; highly recommend.

I've been looking forward to try this hidden gem since I read about in one of the leading newspaper…read morefood critic sections months ago. The first time my wife and I stopped by it was closed (Monday and Tuesday) If you enjoy authentic Asian cuisine I highly recommend you give this place a try. The owner ( Vingy for short) greeted my wife and I and helped us choose menu items based on what we liked, etc. We were one of two parties in the very small dining room ( eight tables) when we arrived and by the time we ate our dinner there were no tables available. We started with pork dumplings and cucumber salad as our appetizers. The salad was the freshest I've had anywhere. Bright, delicious but not overpowering. The dumplings were tasty and perfect in the two dipping sauces that accompanied these tasty morsels. I ordered the Dan-Dan noodles while my wife ordered one of the crispy chicken dishes (garlic). My noodle dish was filled with handmade noodles, braised pork and fresh aromatic vegetables. I could have licked the bowl it was that good. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her chicken entree as well. We ordered a pot of oolong tea that became more tasty as we let it steep at our table. This is the most authentic Asian food I've ever had hands down. Needless to say, we will be back to sample the other items on the menu.

My meal from Not Just Noodle was simply outstanding…read more The Seafood with Stir Fried Noodles dish was nearly perfect. The noodles were thick and toothy with a savory and especially tasty sauce. The combination of shrimp and scallops was buttery. The vegetables had a natural earthiness. I also loved the green onion pie (a.k.a., scallion pancake). The dough had the ideal weightiness to complement the gentle green onion flavor. I will definitely return.

How this place has a 4.3 rating just escapes me. Let's start out with the super sticky tables and…read morecondiment containers on the tables. Super disgusting! And whoever mops the floors must have an irrational childhood fear of cleaning corners. Although the floors themselves are clean, each corner has a disgusting black buildup of filth. Likewise, the sinks in the bathroom. They have not been cleaned well in a very long time. Food: the beef roll pie is delicious. The marinated beef is OK but should be served cold, not room temperature. The steamed dumplings were OK too. However, the noodle dishes were oily, bland, flavorless, and just seasoned with a sweet brown sauce. Further, there is almost no meat to be found in the noodle dishes. What I had looked to be scraps. I paid three dollars extra to have the wide hand cut noodle. It was basically served raw to me. Service: this place has no concept of service. Food comes out haphazardly. First I got my entrée, then my daughter got her entree, then we got two appetizers. Sometime later, my son got his entrée, and the steamed dumplings came. Never once was an empty dish taken away, and never once was a water glass refilled. Service here is absolutely awful. Other than the beef roll pie, there isn't a single redeeming quality about this place. The food is awful, the service is terrible, all surfaces are sticky and dirty. Avoid this place at all cost.
