I chose 4 stars because we did not have food here. We drank beers here a few times during our stay in Prague and the service is really good and this is a terrific place for people watching. We drank the mixed light and dark beers and they were great. I noticed the food that others ordered looked very good and I would not hesitate to order a meal here one day when we return.

Leg of Goose
Joseph S.

The leg of goose was excellent and served with cabbage and dumplings. The gravy was delicious. The menu was extensive and my bride had the beef goulash which she enjoyed very much. The beer was great as well as the wine. The service was quick and friendly and the dessert cream puff suggested by our server was so good we ordered a second order. The restaurant is busy and thus a little noisy but nicely decorated with large pub look. We made reservations but I think walk ins are also entertained. Great for a relaxed casual meal

Nice spot to eat near old town and close to the major hotels in the area. Wonderful outdoor patio and ample indoor space as well. Food was great, very local foods and flavors. Service of course was fine, allows you to enjoy meal slowly and never a rush. Recommend using a reservation especially weekend nights!

Location location location! Dined in December and the restaurant is located right outside of a Christmas market. The place is packed so I recommend a reservation. As Pilsner Urquell's original restaurant, the beers are delicious

It was fine. This is a small chain of Prague restaurants I guess that feel a bit like some of the pseudo-pub chains from the states. But a nice feeling I guess. It's a "safe bet" There was one next to my Airbnb that I wanted to try but was put off by negative reviews. Well, I'll say there's nothing special about it. I had a fast and easy lunch. It tasted just fine, nothing mind blowing. People were friendly. Not too crowded (at lunchtime). Enough menu items to satisfy picky families.

Sharing platter

My first meal in Prague! We got the sharing platter, of course, to try as many things as we could at once! It was all great and a the beginning of an obsession with that classic, hearty, meat- and dumpling-loving Czech food! We ate outside, which was lovely, and our server was friendly and fast.

Svichova, Moravian sparrow (pork), Old Czech Kolkovna platter

Just around the corner of Marriott, asked concierge to make a reservation and we walked there. Good idea to make resi in general when in Prague. Ordered Svichova, Moravian sparrow (pork), Old Czech Kolkovna platter. The platter was the highlight, more than enough for 2, hearty variety of meats-duck, pork, sausage, smoked meat, and sides including cabbage, potatoes, bread dumplings! Good vibes inside but would have been nice to be seated outside and people watch.

Roast duck w all the sides for me and wild boar leg with gingerbread gnocchi for my family members! Delicious!

Excellent authentic food and amazing prices! We enjoyed our meal and the ambiance. It was a traditional Czech experience! If we visit Prague again, we will be back!

This is by far one of my favorite places to visit when in Prague. Over the last 15yrs I've been coming to Prague this restaurant never lets me down. This is located in near the powder gate and features great Czech cuisine and great beer! I ordered the Kolkovna platter which is a large portion of meat along with three different dumplings, cabbage and sauerkraut. It is so tasty and filling along with a large pivo. Will always try to come back here for as long as it remains. The service is amazing and the environment is a like a big pub, which I love.

We had a variety of dishes and all were very good as was the service. We had a goose leg, a pork chop, a pork knuckle, chef''s platter and salmon. Definitely worth going here for the food and atmosphere.

A breaded pork schnitzel with potato salad ( vepřový řízek)

I didn't realize, from reading the reviews, that local hotels recommend this establishment. I walked past it when going to the Communist museum next door last week. the place was pretty full on a Monday afternoon but no line to get in. I asked the girl upfront if they had a place for one person and she took me to a table inside. A pretty big menu. I ordered a medium (500ml Pilsner, and a vepřový řízek ( a pork breaded schnitzel) which comes with a side of potato salad. It's one of my favorites and I've had it all over Prague in addition to other Czech staples. This one was a bit on the dry side.but good portion size. I found the service good, efficient for such a busy restaurant. The food was delivered pretty quickly. Different people took my order, cleared my table and took my payment. All very efficient. I rounded up my bill for a tip. It's a repeat visit establishment for sure.

Good times

I ended up here for a work dinner with our Prague counterparts. The beer was great, service was constant, and the good times plenty. I think I remember ordering 200 grams of smoked pork and loving it. I would definitely come back again! Lively and loud, it's a true local treasure

This place was recommended by our hotel. We wanted to get authentic local food and this place seemed like a good choice. They had large selection on their menu but we settled on Czech specialty platter and roast beef entree. They both came with dumplings. The platter was very large, probably enough for two people to share. However, the duck was dry and didn't have much flavor. The pork was dry too (almost like jerky texture). The dumplings reminded me of mashed up thanksgiving stuffing. The roast beef was decent though. Overall, not very impressed with food here. The service was terribly slow also. We had to call on our waitress several times. I asked for change to leave a tip because they credit card payment didn't give me an option to add tip. After waiting 10 minutes for change, I gave up and left without leaving one. There's a first time for everything I guess.

The food is here to keep you busy and to slow down how fast you get drunk. Order bar food - fries, sausages, fried cheese- and you'll be great. Order a whole meal and well, you get the picture. The beer is good and the shots may or may not be to your taste. No, they're not free. Why would a beer hall give away alcohol? However, the word "no" is perfectly acceptable if you don't want a shot or another beer. The staff doesn't care whether or not you order beer. I got bottled tea and I saw others drinking coffee. No hassles. Atmosphere is kicka**. On a nice day the outdoor tables are lovely. The interior has to be seen to be believed. If you tried to conjure up a fairytale Bohemian tavern you couldn't come up with something better than this. Stay as long as you like and enjoy the accordion music and the vibe. Much thanks to the staff about are absolutely fantastic and all our guests are impressed with the service we all got that night. The food was well cooked and tastefully presented on the plate, served on hot plates. The glasses were always filled with drinks. The serving of the food was always very well planned. A year later we were back in Prague and booked 'dinner in the tower "to experience the memories and the good food again. In stairs, the staff lit candles, and it was really magical to walk up the stairs. Once up there we are faced by a beautifully set table. We enjoyed a delicious 3 course dinner and the food and staff were like amazing as the last time. I had also ordered by mail a month before the dinning a mini of our wedding cake as dthey make itself was very curious if it would work. They had even looked up our wedding date, and sat on the cake, really that little ekstra. We was in heven. The view from the tower is unique, you have the whole of Prague for your feet! The restaurant is in 4 different parts, Tower, banquet hall, outside the restaurante (also tables inside) and beer garden with 2000 seats with view Prague.

We found this place by accident and it turned out to be quite the memorable dinner in Prague, to say the least. We walked into a dungeon, complete with a basement (be sure to go down there, it's pretty cool), suits of armor, and servers clad in wench get-ups that would be suitable for your local Renaissance fair. The theme is top-notch and is taken to new heights here, yet nothing feels too "hokey" about it. We loved the super dark atmosphere and candles on the long wooden tables. We were seated in a corner by the bar and it felt so cozy and romantic even though the restaurant was busy. Our server was friendly and prompt, and the menus have English translations -- sort of. The broken English on the menu is pretty funny ("good ribs from pig roast"), but we appreciated the assistance because the Czech language is so difficult to read and pronounce! We each ordered a local beer and I was delighted that it was served in large, chilled mugs. The menu had a good mix of local specialties and comfort food, and we ordered a bit of both. To start, we got the Chalupníkův Tejden (garlic soup) and the Couračka, a tasty cabbage soup with sausage and cream. Both of these were delicious and the portion sizes were huge. Our soups were served with a large side of hearty brown bread that was glistening with a layer of lard, as is the norm in Prague. It was also fresh and delicious. Since I was sick of eating pork, I went with the chicken schnitzel. This turned out to be one of my favorite things I ate in the Czech Republic. It was a very large fried chicken breast topped with toasted nuts and a side of green beans. The beans were just okay, but I was craving veggies so I gobbled them up. Hubby got the roasted pork knuckle and said it was well prepared too. Vegetarians can rejoice because the restaurant has a large veggie-friendly menu -- something that can be difficult to find in the city. Choices were interesting too, ranging from omelettes and goat cheese with honey to a baked potato and sauerkraut pancakes. There's a great assortment of salads too. Looking back I'm sure this place was some kind of a tourist trap, but we very much enjoyed our meal. It was by sheer happenstance that we dined here and we were pleasantly surprised by the good service, fair prices, and large portions.
