I'd like to personally thank Dr. Myatt and Terri for being so amazing for the past 8+ years that we've been taking our dogs here. From annual checkups, to emergencies, and now recently figuring out was wrong with our childhood dog. They are definitely busy and blunt, but they are very honest and considerate of feelings and/or different options that could be done. Our childhood dog went downhill super quickly, they diagnosed and figured out everything that was wrong in two days during his back-to-back visits. The checkups, meds, x-ray cost roughly $700, they had a different team come in to do ultrasounds and a radiologist that read and interpreted the sonogram for roughly $500. Terri went above and beyond in customer service from the diagnosis, different treatment options, always answering our questions to the best of her ability, giving us all the info for options after his passing, and even bringing comfort once we let them know that our sweet boy passed on. We'll definitely continue to keep taking our pets here and will definitely recommend them to others. read more

Brought our pet here after going to the VCA emergency and paying much more than we could afford but for our fur babies we do what we need to. Our pup was lethargic, losing lots of weight, had no appetite, still not walking after what we were told could be a leg injury. We heard great things about this place from close friends and I'm so glad we came here instead. They were able to pinpoint the problem which actually came from the meds given from the VCA. I understand the healthcare field and that it's a process of figuring out what's wrong with your pet but medication side effects or warnings could have been explained to us a bit better so we know what to look out for. Important things to know: Get there early! It's first come first serve. They open at 8 I believe but parking is scarce. It's on a busy main road so there is only 3 stalls in front until they open their gate which adds about three more stalls. Very tight though. Doesn't look the neatest inside BUT don't let it fool you because they are more than capable of caring for your pet. Prices are very affordable for the care, and meds if needed. Staff is nice and straight forward and you won't feel like they're robbing you especially if you're in a vulnerable state and just don't know what's wrong with your pet. In my opinion, this vet reminds me of my other vet from Kalihi Pet Clinic, when they were in Kalihi. Their charges are very reasonable and the two ladies that wear different hats, who have been there for years are so so wonderful. We have been taking our pets there for over 10 years. It's a small place but always very busy. At the moment, they only have morning hours available and it's walk-in only. Once you get there, get your name on the sign-in sheet located on the wall next to the door. If you are a new patient, they will have you sign a form. I have always had multiple dogs and vet bills can really add up. It hurts less when the fees/charges are more manageable. The vet can come across a little grumpy sometimes but don't let that scare you away. He is very caring and straight forward. read more

Very interesting unscheduled visit today as the staff are very friendly and quick but the exam room is extremely unkempt. Two stars just for the sharps left out, medicine cabinet left open, and the lack of handwashing by the vet. The vet also proceeded to touch the animals bodily fluids with his bare hands (kitten with an infected eye) during her exam. Total exam was five minutes then came the prescriptions. Vet failed to explain dosages, temperatures of medications, plus duration. All of this info. had to be asked of him. It was an unusual experience with the vet, whom I know has experience, but lacks approachability for first-time customers. The clinic also does paper charting and has a wall of client information on the back wall. Hours are kinda funky but posted on the front door. Parking is thin and hard to get out of onto the busy main street. Also not that affordable. Came here as a family referral but will I back -- I doubt it. read more

THIS PLACE IS A NIGHTMARE! I recently adopted a kitten from the humane society. I was given a form of participating vet clinics we can visit that will do a complimentary physical exam. I call the clinic to get more information and spoke to a nurse who advised to just walk in and bring my kittens medical history. I visit the clinic the next day and stated on the sign-in slip it is for a complimentary physical exam. As we're waiting outside, a male worker asks if I brought a stool sample. When speaking with the nurse a day prior, she did not tell me I needed to bring this to the appointment. The male worker lets me know it's okay, and he can collect a sample during the visit. A few minutes later, the male worker comes back outside wearing gloves and holding a stick. I had no idea he was taking the sample OUTSIDE THE CLINIC in front of 3 parties ahead of me. This could all have been avoided if the nurse told me what to bring to the appointment. The doctor called us into the clinic for the appointment. First impressions: did not introduce himself, no eye contact when speaking, and did not ask anything about my kitten. We follow the doctor into a room where he instructs us to place the kitten on the scale. While doing so he says, "You better hold your cat because if he runs I won't grab him." The doctor also left the room door open the entire time, so if my kitten did run away, he would've been able to run through the entire clinic. The doctor is getting ready to give my kitten a shot. While doing so, a nurse barges in the room and has a whole separate conversation about dog surgeries. They are going back and forth about what dog to schedule. The doctor gets frustrated with his nurse, starts raising his voice waving the shot around in his hand and says "I'm not Superman!". I was very confused why my kitten was getting a shot to begin with because the humane society ensured his immunizations were up to date. I ask the doctor what the shot was even for, and he began to mumble his words. I could not understand a word he was saying. He then puts a fluid up my kittens mouth and says "You guys are good to go. His stool tested negative for worms. You don't need to come back for another year." The nurse comes back into the room to continue discussing dog surgeries. They both disregard that we are still in the room but remind us again that we're good to go (basically get out). We were not given a summary visit or any feedback of my kitten. We walk out and leave in total shock from what happened. 10 minutes later, the nurse calls to ask if we are still here at the clinic. I tell the nurse we left and she says "you guys forgot to pay." I'm frustrated at this point because 1. My sign-in slip says complimentary physical therapy exam, which shows me they did not bother to read the slip to begin with. 2. They did not ask any information about my kitten and assumed I walked in for a regular physical. I explain to the nurse I adopted the kitten from the humane society and was given a complimentary exam. I brought all the forms requested when I initially spoke to her on the phone, and no one reviewed it. The nurse then says "If the cat was from the humane society, he didn't even need a shot today. He is good on shots for another year." Tell that to your doctor!!!! How is giving my 2 month old kitten 2 doses of the same shot okay? The whole staff at Kokua Pet a clinic are clueless and should be SHUT DOWN FOR MALPRACTICE! Note: although his stool tested negative, they did not recommend for my kitten to be de-wormed. I spoke to another clinic that highly recommended this treatment. read more

Not only is this place actually affordable, I always have a good experience with the staff. I've been going to this place for the past 5 years thanks to a friend's recommendation. I recently got another puppy and I was starting from scratch. He was 8 weeks old with no shots. I cant afford to pay $160+ every two weeks for my puppy's first shots, fecal analysis and follow up shots for parvovirus. That's what they charge at well known places. This clinic is more than reasonable, almost $100 less! And when I needed my puppy's shot record so that I could take him to the groomer, they emailed it to me within minutes of calling. I could tell they were busy too BUT they delivered as promised. Both of my pets are healthy and have never had an issue. I think it starts with making sure they get their vaccinations and understanding the dangers of the different type of worms/parasites that can potentially kill your pet. We've taken all of our fur babies here for a variety of visits. The staff here are very honest and straightforward. The prices are very fair as well. Appointments are by walk-in only which is perfect for us. The staff are efficient with getting us in and out in a timely matter. And most importantly, our babies always feel better after we visit. A twisted neighbor of ours shot our orange fur baby with an airsoft gun. We took him to an emergency vet hospital that wanted to charge an arm and a leg at the time just to be placed in a room. That price didn't cover the doctor looking at him, any procedures, or medications. Total baloney. So we took our baby to Kokua Pet Clinic first thing the next morning. The Doctor here properly cleaned and treated the bullet wound on our baby. He then prescribed some medication. The price we paid was super reasonable for everything that Kokua did to treat our baby. The staff here were nice and informative when explaining how to care for the wound. They did what was necessary and didn't add in any extra bs to empty our wallets. Another incident involved our calico baby refusing to eat for days. She grew weak. Kokua Pet Clinic had a look at her and prescribed some special canned wet food to nurse her back to health. It worked! We tried so many store bought pet food options previously which my calico baby refused. But this prescribed canned wet food did the trick. My calico baby ate it and gained her strength back! Then our white baby had a similar problem. She stopped eating and would throw up constantly. She lost a few pounds. Doctor determined there was blockage in her tummy. After taking an x-ray, he prescribed some meds to help push whatever blockage she had in her tummy out. Our baby got her appetite back and did not throw up after. She became playful again. We're very satisfied with the services and care Kokua Pet Clinic offers. Abby my Pomeranian Chihuahua terrier had been coughing for quite some time. I was home for a visit and needed to get her seen. My brother told me to take her to see Dr. Myatt since he had taken her there before. We got there about 4pm and there was about 2-3 patients ahead of us. While Dr.Myatt was going in between rooms, he heard Abby coughing and said that she's coughing cause of her heart. I was like wow, you didn't see us yet and being able to make that assessment was impressive. He ordered an x-ray and validated that she had an enlarged heart and it was compressing on her trachea which was causing her to cough. He also gave a some lasix and heart meds. I have read a few of the reviews and was a little skeptical to go, but glad I went. I had a great experience. The front office/assistant was great at what she does. Very professional and personable. The only downfall is the parking. It's a challenge. The hospital is located right in the main Street. There's a few right when you turn in, then there's a driveway. So if you have a large SUV, it may be a challenge. Otherwise great experience overall. read more

I recently got a Doberman puppy and I researched SO much about everything to do with the breed! I decided to get my dogs ears cropped and have the procedure done at Kokua because I was told that Dr. Myatt had the most experience and had learned from the best. I will say this, my dogs ears look very close to what I had asked Dr. Myatt to do, so, as far as his work goes, I think he DOES have the skills and knowledge for this BUT I warn anyone that both Dr. Myatt and his technicians leave a lot to be desired. First of all, I never once had Dr. Myatt consult with me or even come out to meet me and my puppy. Bedside manners? I wouldn't know because he didn't give us the time of day. Second, the aftercare and instructions on what to do was non-existent.. The dose of antibiotics was not the correct dosage and my dog's ears got infected. I took her to my vet and they swabbed and checked under a microscope for proof of infection. They weighed my dog and properly dosed her. The next day I took her to Kokua for retaping her ears and the technician said there was no infection and that she didn't need to check under the microscope because she'd been doing this for 13 years. I feel like my dog's ears turned out great and, again, I won't deny that Dr. knows what he's doing but the care, attention to details, and professionalism is just not there. read more

Treat them like they're human** If I could give a 0 star I would because this place doesn't even deserve ANY STARTS WHAT SO EVER. We were referred by Kalihi pets because two days ago I purchased a Cavapoo (King cavalier poodle mix) and they gave us a free checkup to make sure my dog was healthy. The parking can get crazy, so luckily my mom drove me there. There were about 4 other people ahead of me when I got there and they were all seen very quickly. When my name got called the doctor didn't introduce himself, instead with a stern voice he told me to put my puppy on the scale so that she could be weighed. Shortly after putting her on the table he had listened to her heart beat with a stethoscope and QUICKLY FLAPPED ONE SIDE OF HER EAR and disregarded the other side. Then he had asked me if I had any concerns in which I told him that her poop was soft so he YELLED at his employee for a stool sample. After we got the stool sample my mother and I stayed in the room and were a bit confused because the doctor just walked right out and so did the nurse, without giving us any instructions. While standing in the room, one of the "nurses" yelled from the counter to wait 5-10 minutes outside until we got the results. My mom and I were in plain shock at how a check up lasted NOT EVEN ONE MINUTE. My mom was disturbed so she went back in and asked the nurse what's considered a check up and asked why the doctor didn't do more than just listen to her heart. When the nurse carried MY PUPPY FROM HER TWO ARMS INTO THE ROOM, that sent me to the roof. Shortly after the doctor was YELLING at my mom telling her that listening to the heart beat is the most important/effective..... His employee (woman) was telling him "enough" in a stern voice and the doctor proceeded to be heated until we simply walked out. I have never been to such a chaotic, unprofessional establishment. After we had talked to another employee (male) about how upset we were with our visit, he apologized and said "i'm sorry the doctor doesn't have bed side manners". For an employee to say that, showed me that I'm not the only one that got terrible service from this doctor. He shouldn't even be considered a veterinarian. Looking at half of the yelp reviews, i'm happy i'm not the only one that had to go through such a disturbing appointment. PET VET IN SALT LAKE SHOPPING CENTER IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! Kokua pet clinic needs to be shut down. So update, my dog had a tumor and a raptured stomach and had less than 10% chance of living if we did surgery on him. We ended up having to put him down because we couldn't bare to watch him suffer. It sickens me that I have to put a star on this review, the Pet Hospital said that it could have been possible to save him if we were there a couple months earlier. This was my first visit to Kokua Pet Clinic. I woke up this morning and noticed that my cat was acting strangely. He was stalling in multiple spots around the house in attempts to urinate and was meowing loudly with little to nothing coming out. I immediately recognized this as a bladder issue. He's had a home-diagnosed UTI a couple weeks prior but that went away quickly on its own. I contacted the mobile vet that saw him for an appointment yesterday and was referred to taking him in to a local clinic. After browsing reviews (as one does) on Yelp for a cost friendly and reputable clinic, I decided to take my chances with Kokua. I arrived at close to 10 AM and was out by 11. They were very quick to have me fill in the new client information form and had me settled in a room right away. My overall experience of this place is excellent. I would love to give it 5 stars if only for the vet assistant Keaka (not sure if I've spelt it correctly). She was very, very friendly and explained the step by step process of what was happening to my cat after being brushed off or given blunt and vague explanations by the actual vet on multiple accounts. She provided such empathy for me as a college student that struggles to get by, providing me with a detailed list of options that fit both my cat's needs and what I'm able to afford. I can't thank her enough for getting me through this stressful experience smoothly. I would love to give this place 5 stars but I've rated it 4 because of the doctor's personality. Don't get me wrong, he is very knowledgeable and gets the job done but he seemed upset with my honest questions. As a pet owner, I ask questions because I'm not the expert. I'm concerned over my animal's welfare which is why I feel the need to ask questions about what is going to happen and the cost (which obviously I'm going to need to pay him so I need to know if I even have enough first of all). He was throwing a lot of extra care procedural things at me which is justified in his stance as a vet, but without first consulting to see if there was a more affordable option for me or to make sure that I truly understood. Again, I am able to see the vet's perspective as some people just have certain personalities, but if not for his assistant Keaka who kindly informed me on everything I needed to know, my overall bill could have racked up to $300 more than it actually did. I cannot thank her enough for her kindness and empathy. I hope that lady is being paid as much as she deserves. In closing, this place is excellent in getting your furbabies checked up. The office ladies are so friendly and very knowledgeable. They work really fast and try not to make their furry friends wait too long, they are a really busy facility. They run out of a house at the bottom level. The parking is very limited and the facility itself is very small. We took our Doberman puppy to get her ears cropped and we were nothing but satisfied with the service and outcome. I would recommend dr. Myatt and his clinic if you want ear cropping. read more
