My youngest son has always had a thing for miniature golf. I searched for a venue in Port Aransas and saw that Kody's had an 18 hole course. We decided to break away from the family and go there for lunch. I would say this is another dive bar type of seafood place. It was pretty dark inside. And, it was incredibly hot. I don't know if it just hadn't cooled down after opening, or if the AC was out. After we ordered, I walked the entire place looking for the best ceiling fan. We ended up in a back room by ourselves. We both ordered oyster poorboys. They were as good as they could be. They were also fairly inexpensive. We both scarfed them down pretty quickly. Something about the sea air makes me hungrier than I usually already am. I think the cashier thought we were crazy to be going outside to play golf. The course is out in the open with no shade anywhere. It is one of those old mostly wood with astro turf courses, and it has seen better days. Still, we had a great time knocking balls around. She told us not to hit our balls on the 18th hole so we could play more games for free. In that heat, we had no desire to play anymore. Enough is enough. I would definitely go back to Kody's. Their prices are a lot lower than the venues further up the highway. Like I said, at any price, our poorboys could not be better. read more

Well, they can't all be winners. We've had some really fun meals on this Port A trip but cannot recommend Kody's to you in any possible way. The restaurant itself is pretty dingy, it's basically a dive bar that serves food. Despite that it was filled with unattended children running wild which, of course, isn't really the restaurant's fault. You arrive and you wait in a haphazard line to order. There is ONE lady working behind the counter who is the cashier and the lone bartender and the barback running the dishwasher and everything else. It's beyond stupid - it basically makes those wanting food feel like second class customers whereas people drinking beers at the bar get all of the priority. If they had a dedicated cashier, they could run twice the volume. This isn't a cute peculiar island type thing - it's infuriating in its inefficiency. We arrived at 7:30 and waited just over 45 minutes to order, standing in an increasingly disgruntled line the whole time. There were probably 8 groups in front of us to order so that should give you an idea of how slow it was running. By the time we got to the front they were out of about half of the things on the menu despite advertising that they serve food later than anyone else on the island. I guess if you get there after 8 PM you just have to have what's left? We ordered the garlic fish, which we had heard was fantastic. It was fine, I guess, but absolutely not worth the hassle. Port Aransas is the kind of town where you can feel good about supporting local places that work hard to earn your business. This isn't one of them, everyone seemed kind of annoyed that people were there, especially the cashier person. You can do better by eating elsewhere, and should. read more

A local suggested this place. He said the food was very good. Ok. Here's the deal. You order at the bar, which by the way this is. The seafood platter is $25. I thought that seemed a little on the cheap side for two fish fillets. 4 shrimp and some fried oysters, fries and slaw. Well you get what you pay for. I'm sure they had at one time fresh grease. All I could taste was old grease and chewy fried shrimp. The fish is way over battered and once again the old grease is overpowering. The coleslaw was straight out of Sysco carton. We walked in and had to wait for the bartender/waitress to the explain her family members eye surgery to the locals at the bar before she was able to acknowledge four customers walking in to spend money. When you arrive you must order & pay for the meal before are allowed to take a seat. This requires that you make a tip amount decision before anyone has really performed a service for you. That seems backwards to me. Now for my review. I finished most of my meal so to be fair cannot give a 1 star rating. When I asked the bartender/hostess/order taker if there were any specials, she responded just what is on the whiteboard. There were no specials listed, I ordered the ribeye. Then I was told they were not serving the ribeye tonight. So, I ordered the sirloin with fried shrimp, French fries, and salad. The salad was more green (root like) strings than lettuce, even with salad dressing it was bland. I ordered the steak medium rare and it was extremely tough and needed ketchup to add flavor. The shrimp were like the frozen shrimp you find in the grocery store freezer section. The French fries were cold and chewy. 3 or 4 of the 6 or 7 people at the bar were employees coming & going from the kitchen. After I ordered and paid no employee said a word to me they just placed my food on the table and no one thanked me for patronage. Atmosphere is like an old worn out bar. This was my first visit in a year and I probably will not return. read more

We came to this place reading that it was family friendly. Once you walk in you get a big breath of smoke that smacks you in the face. We sat outside and the food was delivered... the cheeseburger was great but the garlic fried fish special was much different than the pictures that was posted. It was thick and in two big chunks not worth the price in my opinion. We brought our kids to play mini golf afterwards. On and around the holes we found trash consisting of old beer bottles and beer cans (that have been there for quite a while), old to go boxes, kids socks that were laying around the back nine, a fork, and a bunch of cigarette butts on the ground. The holes have been neglected and need a lot of work. The last hole had a wire cage over it which was broken/cut up which poses a hazard especially to kids. I'd be confident to say this place is not family friendly but the burger is good. read more

We stood at the front counter waiting to order for about 10 minutes behind a group of guys that had been drinking and then ordered double Bacardis and double vodkas. There's only 1 person working the bar and the register. The kitchen was way behind. The order from the 6 guys in front of us was the only order in front of us. (There were only 3 tables with people) The kitchen manager went back and forth to the office several times and then mostly stood around looking confused. The kitchen couldn't manage to keep track of more than one table's order at a time. So we waited 30 minutes for 4 pieces of overcooked fried shrimp.
