*** I recently attended a screening hosted by KCRW, The Document. ***…read more The movie was titled "Maiden" about the Whitbread Round the World yacht race. It was a grueling open-ocean race dominated historically by only men. But in 1989, a young woman put together an all-female crew to challenge that. The Document invited hundreds of KCRW members to attend, so I RSVP'd. And I'm glad that I did. This film is inspirational. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/writers-guild-theater-beverly-hills-2?select=mGn0PJVXuasfx_E_5a1E9g I am not a woman and I don't sail, yet even I was inspired by this story. These women sailed the sea for about six months against tremendous odds (including the Southern Ocean off the coast of Antartica). Amazing! That inspires me to challenge myself much more in my life as a result. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/writers-guild-theater-beverly-hills-2?select=LMNKf0eXIqhQnlkXLtAKaw There were several food trucks and complimentary wine followed by a Q&A with the yacht captain Tracy Edwards and "Maiden" director Alex Holmes. Overall, a very nice event held at the Writer's Guild theatre. *** I don't subscribe to KCRW for its perks, but nice to partake. ;p ***

The station was formerly known as KRUZ 103.3 and was an adult contemporary station. In the spring…read moreof 2005, it converted into what's known as The Vibe and has been The Vibe since. This station has definitely brought back high school memories of when it was a strictly Hip-Hop station. I used to listen to it a lot back then, even when I made trips around the Central Coast knowing that this station had a clear signal through most of the Central Coast. I understand that the station has to stay relevant and has to innovate themselves, but I think the station went down when it decided that it wanted to be a Top 40 station. Maybe, I'm just getting older and that's why this station no longer appeals to me like it used to. Who knows! All I know is that this station is just not what it used to be anymore. On a side note: I find it impressive that this station's signal is so strong that it can be heard from as far south as Agoura Hills and as far north as San Luis Obispo. Although, it was spotty, I actually did manage to get signal from The Vibe as far north as Paso Robles (NOT KIDDING) which I find superb for an FM signal!

With a decent AM radio, there is a noticeable hum, at all times, in their sound. What's up with that? This is the premier AM station in the Ventura/Oxnard area. ALSO, I listen to KVTA, both at my PC and my bedside radio through the internet. The hum is also broadcast through the internet! In addition to the annoying hum, you have the following: during their morning broadcast with Spence and the boys the volume varies greatly between various segments. For instance when Spence and Stickboy are speaking, the volume is fine. However when Paul Tranquillo reads the news, his voice is very, very low volume, barely audible. But when Paul plays a recording of an interview, the volume BLASTS. At your bedside at 5:30 in the morning this is quite annoying. Ventura County deserves better than this KVTA, you need some engineering over there! UPDATE-Recently MARCH 2013 KVTA went to 1590 on the dial. The signal is noticeably cleaner without the hum. Good job KVTA 1590! HOWEVER-they are not on the internet at this point. I would like to wake up to local news thru my internet radio. Contact iheart radio and get it on the internet!
