It was a grueling open-ocean race dominated historically by only men. But in 1989, a young woman put together an all-female crew to challenge that. They had stations for weaving and a badge/story telling set up. In addition, there was a full day of scheduled music events that were hands on and allowed children to use the musical instruments! The Octopus is dead. This once decent radio station is no more. Gone forever…read more The new station, Rewind 95.9 is an abomination. Like Jack FM, Rewind 95.9 doesn't use DJs. But where Jack at least plays half way decent music, this lame station uses an automated playlist put together by a glue sniffing rhesus monkey fresh off the boat from Bangladesh. One morning last week, I gave them a listen on my way to work. I have a very short commute. All they had to do was play something that didn't suck. Just one song. And what was on? Madonna's song, Like A Virgin. Epic Fail! No, this was beyond Epic Fail. This was far more egregious. This was Sucks Out Loud! I was barely able to control the car as I flailed at the dashboard, desperate to get that crap off my radio. I finally succeeded but not before I nearly drove straight into a palm tree. What the hell, man? Freaking Madonna at 8 am? No one should ever, EVER, under any circumstances, have to listen to Madonna before they've had a tremendous amount of alcohol. And I mean a lot more than you can possibly drink before work, even if you work for the county. If I wasn't worried about how it would affect my car's resell value I'd take a hatchet and hack out the whole part of the radio dial between 95.7 and 96.1 so I never even accidently tune into this suckfest of a radio station. This station has definitely brought back high school memories of when it was a strictly Hip-Hop station. I used to listen to it a lot back then, even when I made trips around the Central Coast knowing that this station had a clear signal through most of the Central Coast. I understand that the station has to stay relevant and has to innovate themselves, but I think the station went down when it decided that it wanted to be a Top 40 station. Maybe, I'm just getting older and that's why this station no longer appeals to me like it used to. Who knows! All I know is that this station is just not what it used to be anymore. On a side note: I find it impressive that this station's signal is so strong that it can be heard from as far south as Agoura Hills and as far north as San Luis Obispo. Although, it was spotty, I actually did manage to get signal from The Vibe as far north as Paso Robles (NOT KIDDING) which I find superb for an FM signal!

With a decent AM radio, there is a noticeable hum, at all times, in their sound. What's up with that? This is the premier AM station in the Ventura/Oxnard area. ALSO, I listen to KVTA, both at my PC and my bedside radio through the internet. The hum is also broadcast through the internet! In addition to the annoying hum, you have the following: during their morning broadcast with Spence and the boys the volume varies greatly between various segments. For instance when Spence and Stickboy are speaking, the volume is fine. However when Paul Tranquillo reads the news, his voice is very, very low volume, barely audible. But when Paul plays a recording of an interview, the volume BLASTS. At your bedside at 5:30 in the morning this is quite annoying. Ventura County deserves better than this KVTA, you need some engineering over there! UPDATE-Recently MARCH 2013 KVTA went to 1590 on the dial. The signal is noticeably cleaner without the hum. Good job KVTA 1590! HOWEVER-they are not on the internet at this point. I would like to wake up to local news thru my internet radio. Contact iheart radio and get it on the internet!
