Cooper Creek Campground is absolutely the most beautiful, off the beaten path, places I've ever…read moretraveled and it's practically in Atlanta's back yard! Located on the beautiful and noisy Cooper/Mulky Creek just an hour north of Dahlonega up Hwy 60 and then up some of the most beautiful and winding mountain roads that make you think you're never going to get there! By the time you turn on to Forest Service Rd 236 (a beautiful and peaceful dirt mountain road that climbs up through the pine and hardwood forests), you realize there is something amazing waiting for you. And there is. Cooper Creek Campground is like reaching a little slice of heaven. Fifteen campsites scatter through out the lush forest, and five of them sit right on the banks of Cooper/Mulky Creek. I advise getting there early during the week so you can get a creek side spot ... there is nothing like it! The creek is rocky and noisy and if you fish, the trout are plentiful! I walked the loop and all of the campsites were beautiful and within easy walking distance to the creek. As a solo hiker and camper, I chose spot #1 for the way the creek opened up and the trees opened up around my tent site to give me a clear view of a beautiful moon. I also liked the quiet solitude of this site ... few cars passed here since it's on the back loop. The campground hosts also live two spots up. As an avid (delirious almost) rock stacker, I fell in love with this creek. The rocks are amazing and perfect for stacking and balancing. It was so relaxing I stacked till after dark and was up just after sunrise stacking again! The pine cones in camp are plentiful, so I got a good pine smoke going and didn't have the first mosquito or black fly. I'm telling you ... this place is heaven! After dark a bunch of deer came through my camp and lapped at the creek for almost a half hour. Two fawns frolicked in the fern thickets next to my tent for a while and were bouncing around like puppies! With the light of the moon, I felt like I had a front row seat for natures big show that night! Also, there are synchronous fireflies here, which surprised me. Just after dark during the Summer Solstice, I thought it was kids playing with flashlights, but it was fireflies, all blinking in unison! It was amazing! I can't WAIT to go back! In fact, now that I'm home, I'm missing it. Cooper Creek is open year round and keep their gates open 24 hours a day. You won't get a phone signal here, so you may as well turn it off ... the solitude is amazing! Each site has a tent pad, grills, lantern pole and a picnic table. There are also bear bins that are an easy walk from each site for discarding trash. For hikers, you won't be disappointed. There are five interconnected trails that start in or near the camping area (Yellow Mountain Trail- 3.2 miles, Connector Trail- 0.4 miles, Mill Shoals Trail- 0.9 miles, Shope Gap Trail- 0.6 miles, and Cooper Creek Trail- 1.7). I found myself hiking in and out and exploring trail after trail. The abundance of trees at Cooper Creek keep the temperatures down, much cooler than up on the main road. I paid $10 a night for my site. There are faucets for drinking water and there are two vaults for bathrooms. There are no electric hook ups or dump stations. Primitive camping at it's finest! There are no reservations ... everything is first come, first serve. Have fun everyone!

We decided to take a week in our RV and look for a unique spot to stay and we found an excellent…read morelittle campground. CGMF is a beautiful slice of peace and quiet up in the western NC mountains complete with a barn, goats, chickens and dogs with some cows next door. We chose RV Camping and setup on a hilltop RV pad with 30A power and fresh water along with excellent wifi, which was a great thing given there is no cell service in the area. We were greeted by Scott and Nancy, the hosts of CMGF and great people. Everything was clean and ready for our stay and if we needed anything, they were ready to accommodate any of our needs or address our concerns and questions. The goats are fun to watch as they are walked around and are great "guard" goats as they will alert the camp of anyone walking by them, especially at dinner time. The hosts also have a couple of very friendly dogs who love attention and are also very friendly with other dogs. We brought 2 dogs with us and they all became great friends running as a pack around the campground at times. During our stay, other campers came to stay, several in a couple of tent sites and one in their absolutely beautiful tiny home. They have clean restrooms to use and a shower, something you don't find very often at the smaller private camping spots. The camp store has snacks, drinks and some necessities such as toiletries as well as some souveniers and gifts for purchase. 10/10 would recommend forgetting about the world for awhile and going for a stay at Candy Mountain Goat Farm, you won't regret it.

We had a beautiful…read moresite on the water and were able to fish, swim and tie our boat up right in front of our campsite. Every site has a picnic bench, fire pit, water hookups, 30 or 50 amp hookups and pretty level gravel parking areas. WiFi is spotty and towards the end of the campground (second loop) it's pretty much non existent. We have a repeater and tethered off our phones which worked well for us. For campers with trailers or RV's there is one dump site for all, none available at individual sites so if you stay for awhile be aware of this. Some folks called a guy who came in and pumped their black water tank for $25. The camp hosts will have information for you if interested. Public restrooms are old, need some TLC but otherwise they're clean. There is a shower with a curtain. Fun hikes/walks just a quick drive away at Jackrabbit Mountain. Beautiful walk from your campsite across the Chatuge Dam. Mornings when the world is waking up and evenings at sunset are my favorite times to wander over. Beautiful place to relax and regroup. We will be back!

You can tour the US with safety by keeping your distance and never having to roll the dice when choosing a motel/hotel as to its cleanliness and sanitation practices. This week we took a week-long trip only 3 hours from our home. We chose Valley RIver Resort based upon the website and Yelp reviews. Nestled in the southeastern foothills of the Smoky Mountains, it promised to be the perfect getaway location. The drive was absolutely gorgeous with the trees starting to change into their resplendent colors of fall. When we arrived, we checked in and were greeted by Beau, the campground host, who guided us to our assigned space and then guided us into the space. He was such a kind, welcoming and friendly fellow, eager to do anything to make our stay worry free. The pads all are concrete and level - no inclines here. The spaces are wide and easy to back into. There are also pull through sites. All sites have full hookups. Some of the sites back up to a hill and others back up to a small catch and release lake with no fishing license required. The main lodge is beautiful, complete with a fireplace and large TV with comfy seating. The bathhouse, game room, restrooms and pool are together in one building space and they are sparkling clean and look like they are brand new. The pool is outside and at this time of year, the lady who registered us said we were welcome to take a "refreshing" (quite chilly) dip. The resort also provides fire wood and portable fire pits for a reasonable fee. We ordered from the office and Beau was again jiffy on the spot to fulfill our requests. He delivered the fire pit to our site, set it up and then unloaded our wood and neatly stacked it for us. What service!!! If you want to roll the dice, try your luck with a one armed bandit, roulette or card games, a Harrah's Casino and hotel is across the way. Downtown Murphy is only 3 miles away. If you like to antique shop, the downtown area has many to choose from. Murphy is a small town, so most everything closes right at 5pm. So if you're looking for a quiet and sparkling clean place with super accommodating and friendly staff, you should definitely make Your way to Valley River RV Resort.

The noise isn't bad,and they have a quiet time from 10pm-8am, so sleeping is simple. Bathrooms are clean and the campground hosts are very nice. Once even brought local caught, fried trout and "Mexican" corn bread to our campsite one evening. My only complaint is that the website tells you to not bring in any foreign firewood, and that they have some for sale. When we got there, they were out of fire wood and we were told that they were "waiting on the guy" for wood. "Fortunately" he came saving me a trip into town, or so I thought. The wood they delivered to our site, two loads - $50 worth - was so green and wet that I had to run into town to buy fire starter bricks just to get it going. Batoning the wood into kindling and even shaving it into starter pieces proved futile. Even after getting the fire going, it wasn't very warm as it was struggling to burn the wood that smoked and sizzled. That is my only complaint for a lovely site. There are tons of trails and scenery to take in. I highly recommend the campground!

They are also dog friendly and even have a horse friendly camp ground that's a little higher up the mountain. At the horse camp, it's more primitive with no showers and an enclosed port-a potty, but it's still a clean and beautiful wooded area. The camp store is pretty well stocked and they sell firewood. It's a bit expensive, but it saves you a trip down the mountain into town. I've stayed there three times and every other campground I've been to just doesn't seem to compare.
