Lots of tropical fruit from local farms

This market is hidden Saturday delight. It hosts local farmers, local musicians, artisans, and a good selection of a local crafts and guava bread! There's a sweet camaraderie between vendors. I found beautiful produce from several vendors, honey, local jams and also things to take back to the mainland and enjoyed some great conversations on top of it. Oh and check out the guava bread...

Loved it and wish we could take it home.

They wanted a total of $80 for a coconut and about 5 fruits. We politely just paid for the coconut and left. Go to a legitimate farmers market instead.

So... yeah ummm I'm known for being a sucker but this was a little extreme. After a long beautiful…read moreday at Makena beach my wife and two beautiful blonde hair blue eyed daughters were thirsty and ready for some fresh fruit and coconut from the stand we saw on the way in. As we drove threw the beautiful winding road in a true tropical paradise we searched desperately for that wonderful homely and authentic looking fruit stand that we saw on the way in hoping desperately that they had not closed and gone home to rest peacefully for the night after a long hard and hot day on the side of the asphalt road. As we passed a few food trucks we became increasing disappointed that maybe they had left and we would not get that fruit that we were longing for. But we rounded what looked like our last turn and in the corner of my eye it was there... that beautiful fruit stand in all its glory glimmering in the hot spring sun. As we pulled off to the side of the road my taste buds started to dilate with saliva anticipating that wonderful ice cold coconut and sweet fresh fruit. The two Polynesian women greeted me with a smile from across the street as my family got out of the car to get the good stuff. We cross the hot pavement and greeted them respectfully. They ask us what we wanted and very quickly and eagerly give us the lowdown of every delicious fruit that had on display. Mangos, guava, banana, pineapple, papaya, and more. We asked for two coconuts and bam! They were sliced open faster than you could say turkey on thanksgiving day. They handed them over and handed me a banana for a quick try. As I tasted that banana ohh how wonderful and yummy that thing was after a long day in the sun. I took a sip of that ice cold coconut and my children did the same. Bliss pure bliss. Eating local fruit with the Hawaiians and supporting these wonderful people that have worked so hard to provide such an amazing spread. Wow I thought to myself this is just great. Then faster than the explosion that created Diamond head crater we were given the price for two coconuts, two mangos, and a guava for a total bargain of 65 dollars. At first I thought my ears were clogged from a long day body surfing at the big beach so I asked again... was that 65 dollars? Yes 65 she said... as she irritatingly placed her heavy hand on the table and changed her tone from nice to demanding. I scrambled hard, couldn't find words, and pulled fresh cash yes fresh cash that I never have out of my wallet like the hole I am not wanting to offend these locals that have shared this beautiful island with us. I handed that cash over fast and scrambled to the car with my family. There was a brief moment of silence and then my wife and I looked at each other and felt our stomachs sink as we realized we had been scammed and taken full advantage of. Felt bad real bad until I read all these yelp reviews. If you are on this you have probably already been scammed. I hope this review gives you a laugh as all the other reviews did for me. We are out 65 bucks but whatever it's a great story. Aloha.
