His refusal was hard to accept as I could barley walk with 10% 3rd degree burns on my body. He said and his nurse Tiffany said I would not be left out in the cold on pain meds till Sunday May 24th. They flat out lied and sent me with pics sent days before to MMC wound care in OakRidge Tn. I went there and aftter going thru complete hell there they said I was not a candidate for care due to the pics the dr sent. Somebody should have stopped this before I ever got there and No i am not paying for that care and it was zero care and everyone was a complete idiot threre from front desk to Rn to PA. Out of sheer desperation I called dr Smyth's nurse Tiffanny and she reported me to the office manager and that om is named Ashely. Ashely sent 10 cops to house, called my daughter in Tx, terrorized her and Idon't appreciate this kind of care one single bit. This is not care, this is medieveal torture. I have no repesect now for the doctor the nurse or the office manager Ashely and once i get to the point I can can better and walk I will be finding myself a brand new team of medical care internists and help as this was not even a rate of one it was a minus 10 in terms of compassion or care. Please go someplace else to get good care as this is not IT.

After completing my fourth consecutive annual physical at UT Family Physicians in Hardin Valley in May 2025--a visit that is supposed to be 100% covered by insurance--I was unexpectedly billed for a second office visit on the same day. Why? Because the physician asked, "How are your medications working?" That single, routine question was used as justification for an additional charge and the second office visit The office later admitted they are now employing this billing practice, which many patients may not be aware of. I urge anyone considering this location to proceed with caution. While the billing issue alone is concerning, what followed made the situation significantly worse, which I will outline below for those who wish to know the full extent. After receiving an unexpected bill for a second office visit on the same day as my annual physical--an appointment that is 100% covered by my insurance--I attempted to contact the billing department at this UT Family Physicians location. Despite leaving multiple voicemails, I received no response. On my third attempt, I remained on hold until someone finally answered. I explained that this appointment was identical to the one I had a year prior: same doctor, same insurance, and same medications. The representative (whose name began with "A") acknowledged they had recently adopted a new coding system and that similar issues had arisen with other patients. I was told the additional charge stemmed from the doctor asking about my current medications--something I thought was standard for a physical. I was never informed that such a routine question would trigger a separate billable visit. I was asked to send an email with details, which I did--twice--over a span of 14 days with no response. When I followed up by phone, someone shouted from the back of the office, "I'm working on it," but still, no communication from "A" followed. After 33 days of silence and receiving a late bill, I insisted on speaking with "A" directly. I was told there were signs posted around the office and that I had signed a form acknowledging the billing policy--though this was never properly explained to me. When I asked to escalate the matter, I received a call from a manager (whose name began with "L") who was unprofessional and dismissive. Rather than address the concern, I was informed that, due to my questioning of the charges, my entire family would be dismissed from the practice--despite being loyal patients for years. I then reached out to UT's Patient Advocate, who promised the Vice President of UT Family Physicians would follow up to assist in transferring our care and reviewing the issue. That call never came, even after another 30 days. In conclusion, this office is poorly managed, and the staff has consistently demonstrated a lack of professionalism and accountability. If you choose to visit, I strongly recommend requesting written clarification on all procedures and billing codes in advance. As supported by other similar reviews, there is a troubling pattern here--patients are being blindsided by unexpected charges with little to no recourse.

In my case this would only apply to the Nurse Practitioner, Misty Cottrell, not me. I had a multi year patient relationship where i would drive 35 miles each way up from Knoxville, keeping each appointment and dutifully adhering to every directive. THEN- one day when i recently suffered a heart attack, she was completely unimpressed. I was in the hospital for 10 days after receiving quadruple bypass open heart surgery. She could not see fit to express the minimal concern by even returning a phone call. When my care was turned over to her from the surgeon, she refused to fill prescriptions for the most nominal of painkillers and became surprisingly openly hostile, making me feel like some junkie in withdrawal just for asking for minimal relief. Watch out. You may feel you have a great relationship at first but that may all change once anything gets serious. She will be completely unreliable, assume zero responsibility for your care and have no compunction to become 'non-compliant' to her most loyal of patients and throw you out like garbage. Beware, also of an extremely incompetent office staff who she will be completely loyal to, not you.
