While traveling through Boynton Beach, I spotted this park and it looked like the perfect place to stop and stretch--and it didn't disappoint. What I didn't expect was the fascinating bit of local history tied to it.
Knollwood Park sits on land that was once home to one of the last old-school Florida roadside attractions in Palm Beach County. For more than 75 years, Knollwood Groves welcomed visitors with a gift shop, fresh orange samples, fruit shipping, an alligator wrestling show, and even tractor wagon rides through the groves. After the attraction closed in 2005, the 120-acre property was redeveloped into a residential community, with Knollwood Park created at the entrance as part of the plan.
Today, the park offers a peaceful escape. You can enjoy a picnic under the covered pavilion or take a relaxing stroll along the paved walkway that winds around the lake. During my visit, I spotted an Egyptian goose, ducks, and a great egret--making it a great spot for casual wildlife watching.
Overall, this quiet, well-kept park is perfect for a leisurely walk, a picnic, or simply enjoying a bit of nature. read more
