I have been visiting Knit-N-Purl every April for the past 3-4 years to participate in KALs, typically knitting socks or shawls, which I have enjoyed immensely. The shop offers a variety of great, reasonably priced yarns, knitted samples on display, supplies, and accessories. The owner, staff, and community of knitters who collect at the table in the store have invited me, an outsider, to sit and knit with them are friendly and helpful in deciphering patterns and shopping for the next project. I was disappointed they had to move further away from my timeshare in Myrtle Beach to their new location in Surfside Beach but pleased they hadn't closed their doors. I recommend you visit this local yarn shop for yarn, classes, and the opportunity to meet other knitters. read more

I'd planned my Myrtle Beach trip several weeks ago. The first place I looked for was a yarn shop. This place came up. I visited their website and planned to stop in during my time in Myrtle Beach. Fast forward today. My sister and I walked into the store and the woman behind the counter gave us a look as if we must be in the wrong place or that we were unwanted. At no time were we greeted or asked if we needed help. While checking out another customer, who apologized to my sister and I because her purchase was taking too long, the woman behind the counter answered, "Oh they're fine." I must assume because my sister and I are African American our money wasn't good enough for this store. So when I cancelled my purchase, instead of handing me my change the woman slammed my change on the counter. I really was looking forward to my visit at Knit-N-Purl. However, bad service and racist behavior ruined that for me. So I want to warn all African American Knitters and Crocheters not to step foot in this store or spend your money there. read more

The shop is really cute and there are lots of sample pieces if you're looking for inspiration. Overall my experience wasn't the worst but not the best either. While on vacation I looked up the closest yarn shop and found this one. I found some nice fingering weight yarn that was at a great price. They woman at the counter offered to wind it for me after I asked her if it would be possible. What I left with was a ball that was loosely done and pieces shoved into the center. I thought I could untangle the mess but sadly I could only use half the skein. Before leaving town I went back the next day to grab another one just in case. I'm so thankful I did otherwise I wouldn't have been able to finish my project. The shop is cute, the prices aren't outrageous, and it's the only yarn shop I found in Myrtle Beach. Terrible new ownership...Did not have a pleasant email with her. I saved my birthday gift certificate to shop here for fifty dollars for a special occasion and she refuses to honor this because she's the new owner. BAD BUSINESS. This is just not how you do things. I hate that my family member wasted her money on this. I come from an entire family of knitters that has 4 beachfront properties in myrtle beach so I will be SURE that no one I know ever visits this business again. My family has several businesses and we would never do something like that that to a customer. Please don't give your money to this business. After reading the other reviews, I doubt she'll be in business long...at least not with return customers! Please learn how to run a proper business and brush up on how to treat customers. read more

Closed early. Not coming back. I am very disappointed. I drove here from far away. I live in Annapolis. We are staying 20 minutes away. I've interrupted everyone else vacation to go to this yarn store twice and twice it has been closed. We were going to stop on our way out of tow tomorrow, but that would be 40 minutes out of our way and since you guys are CLOSED. There is no reason for me to come back. Please allow me this moment to vent some disappointment. I am visiting Myrtle Beach from Central PA. ON Tuesday I visited a local yarn store and spent $87 plus tax. That evening while leafing through the pages of a tourist coupon book, I found a coupon for 25% off of purchases over $100. I returned to the store on Thursday prepared to purchase the additional yarn or supplies necessary to meet the purchase minimum. I admit there is in fine print: "coupon must be used at time of purchase" The owner would not budge from this policy. Even though I asked her if we could negotiate to some mutually satisfactory solution. the moral for you is...If you visit Myrtle Beach with plans to visit "KnitnPurl", please check the coupon books before you shop. BUT also note, this is a supper fine Yarn shop, with truely exquisite fibers and many completed examples of the yarns available .... Totally worth the stop and shopfor any yarn enthusiast...JUST REMEMBER TO GO WITH YOUR COUPON? read more

Very unfriendly store... two women working..one was so busy courting her friend she would literally walk right through you. Came with two other knitters...no one spoke or said hello when we came in.... I have been in retail and trained workers...saying hi and asking if you can help someone is just good customer service. The other lady finally was a TAD helpful, but only after we tracked her down. After she realized I knew what I was doing, we never saw her again. Time to check out ...we stood at the register...the original one (whose friend had left) sat and ignored us...even after someone at the table told her there were people at the register. I finally had to say to my friend, rather loudly " I guess no one wants your money", that she finally came over. Beautiful store, but I will spend my money elsewhere.... read more

While vacationing in Myrtle Beach this past week, I looked online for a LYS - Knit N Purl came up. Their website was up to date and had a calendar of classes for the week I was there. I spotted a Brioche 3 class that made my day! You could register online, but there was homework so I decided instead to swing by the store ahead of time. I was greeted as soon as I walked in and asked if there was anything in particular that I was looking for. I was directed to the owner of the store that was teaching that class. The class was reasonably priced and included the materials and pattern. I was able to select from a basket my kit for the class. The store was busy and had several regulars knitting at a table in the center of the store. One of the women spoke up that she was also taking the class. The store was well stocked and had lots of samples knitted. I left that day with yarn and patterns for 3 other projects! I found the store very warm and inviting. I was invited to come back and knit with them if I had time while I was there. The class was awesome! Besides the hat we were making, Martina showed us how to recover from mistakes several rows back. I will definitely be visiting this store next time I'm in town and this time I'll leave more room in my luggage! read more

When fellow travelers brought the wrong sort of yarn for their projects and needed new yarn, the hunt for a local yarn shop (LYS to you knitter folk) began. The first day of hunting failed, as the two LYS hunters were discouraged by the lack of yarn shops. But lo, some kind souls informed the two travelers of a LYS in Myrtle Beach that would be worth a visit...and the journey began. When the travelers entered through the front doors, it was a well organized yarn paradise with a table that was surrounded by knitters in the center. The owner after discovering that the travelers were first time visitors gave a good tour and informed them of where the bathrooms were located and that there was coffee. Everyone was quite helpful to our travelers, answering questions and finding the yarn that was needed as well as some lovely patterns. They were rather helpful in winding hanks into yarn cakes. The website is nice, and they have an app for the iPad. would love it if they had an android app too, but that is not taking away from the score. This is definitely going to be another place to visit while down here. read more

I was in town for a "get away weekend" with my husband when I found this delightful shop. I am a life long crocheter who is just learning to knit also. The store was very close to our hotel so I thought I would run in and grab some needles I needed. Over two hours later I left the store giddy with excitement over my new favorite place in Myrtle Beach. As mentioned in another review upon entering the store you are greeted by a well organized plethora of yarn and a huge table with women and men sitting around knitting and talking. Molly greeted me when I walked in and offered any assistance. I knew I just wanted to browse and "feel" the yarns before making any purchases, so Molly kept her distance while still being close enough and available to answer any questions. I love that she has a variety of sample projects on display with the directions and products used right there with them (although this did cause me to buy more than I originally planned on lol). The yarn is also very well organized throughout the store - my OCD was in heaven and I didn't have to put anything back in its proper place because everything was already there! When I was having trouble deciding on which two colors to use in a pattern....the entire table came to my assistance and voiced their opinions. It was awesome! The best part for me is the customer service. Two weeks after being in the store I had a question regarding some of the yarn I bought and which yarn we decided to use in a specific pattern. I emailed the shop on a Sunday evening (through the website) and had a response by Monday morning asking me to call the shop at a specific time so she could be looking at the actual yarn and pattern while we talked. Molly actually remembered me and our conversations form my one visit to the store. I will no longer be buying my yarn from the local big box craft stores, but will make regular trips down to Myrtle (about an hour away from my house) to support a local owned shop with amazing customer service! read more

Was in town for vacation and decided to stop in and check Knit-N-Purl out and I'm so glad I did. They have a great selection of yarns, none that you will find in the big chain stores. The staff is super friendly and very helpful. I ended up special ordering some yarn and couldn't be happier with it. The store is organized well and they offered me coffee too. You can bring your work with you and join them at the table in th center of the store and knit/crochet while chatting with them. I'd shop here again in a heartbeat. Can't wait for my next Myrtle Beach vacation. read more

A year ago I would have given this shop a 5 star rating, now with the new ownership I would choose a negative 5 if it existed. No more kind smiling southern charm. No more help (at least not free help, it will cost you $5 cash only for 15 minutes; and they don't run it through the register...oh Mr IRS, where are you?) My help consisted of negativity (adding to a store bought item is unheard of! Like it would be a mortal sin) and providing websites to find answers to the question: How many (ballpark) to cast on for a 50x60 throw? $5 please. You could have had $105 or $205 if you had been more helpful. A customer in the yarn section of a nearby Michaels said that she heard that Knit and Purl had beautiful yarns and a mean owner and stuck up employees. I asked what she meant. She replied: that they talk down to you because they are the queens of knitting. Well, I said, that about sums it up! read more

I first visited this store in the old location a couple of years ago and not only loved it but really liked the very helpful and welcoming staff. I have looked forward to going back and recently was in Myrtle Beach so I headed straight to the shop, planning on making a sizable purchase. The yarn, supplies, and samples were great but the staff couldn't have cared less that I was there. Three men were at the table when I came in and none of them acknowledged my presence. They were too busy with their knitting projects to speak to me. I walked through the entire store twice looking at the yarn and samples --- this entailed walking around their table twice --- and they offered no help. This was completely opposite of the reception I received previously, so I was extremely disappointed. I finally had to ask if they had additional skeins of a particular yarn and one of them got up and brought some from the back for me. That was the extent of our interaction. I ended up making a $40 purchase instead of the much larger one I had planned. Even when I was checking out, the gentleman running the register acted totally uninterested. I will return because of the store's selection but I will no longer recommend this shop to my friends. I have told friends this local yarn shop is different from all others because of their incredible staff, but sadly that no longer seems to be the case. Hopefully, they were just having a bad day and I will be pleasantly surprised the next time I'm in town. read more
