The event takes place under the pavilion in Roosevelt Park and this year was expanded to be a three day event. With a couple of nights of performances at the Dickens Opera House. So the L.J.F. isn't a destination event, meaning that people from all over the country come to Longmont for. But it is still deserving of the attention of any and everyone that loves jazz here in Colorado or is into supporting the local arts scene. LJF is a free event which is great. They have lots of local jazz, Latin jazz and salsa acts from the metro area. This year it was great to see some groups play that I've been wanting to see, like the Adam Bodine Trio, Quemando, the Longmont All Star Jazz Band, etc. Two artists whom I seen perform before t other festivals, Bob Montgomery and Eric Gunnison are always a treat to hear perform and were both excellent at the Longmont Jazz Festival. So this event in my opinion will only continue to grow year after year and I hope that you as well as others will be a part of it by attending. Looking forward to being there again next year!

This was the second year that the homegrown Craft Spirits Festival took place. It's a great…read moreshowcase of local distilleries all of whom distill their spirits in Colorado (with some growing their own ingredients, how cool is that?!). The event was easy to find (I was a bit nervous when I saw that the Boulder County Fair was also taking place at the same time at the same venue) and there was no problem finding parking. Upon entering the event we were Id'd and given wrist bands and tickets. Each vendor presented a "signature cocktail" and we were encouraged to drop our ticket off to our vendor of choice to cast our vote (no easy feat with 20 distilleries in attendance). Many distilleries had their company founders and distillers present which was awesome. It's so amazing to meet people so passionate about their craft as well as the folks who brainstormed the idea and brought it to life! I was happy to see familiar faces from some recent Yelp Denver events! (huge shout outs to Spirit Hound, J&L, as well as Woody Creek Distillers). The event took place over 4 hours and for the most part I felt that attendees did a great job of taking it easy and imbibing thoughtfully. I've attended beer events in the past and found it to be a bit unpleasant when folks got rowdy. I think this event taking place in the afternoon at an outside venue certainly helped. There were several law enforcement officers present and I suspect this certainly helped keep people responsible. There was a Mexican food truck which I enjoyed quite a bit (Comida - http://www.eatcomida.com). The mushroom quesadilla was well worth the wait. The neighboring county fair also had some food offerings and I saw a few spirits festival attendees walking around with turkey legs and alligator on a stick. The spirits fest had two tented areas with tables for relaxing, dining, and hydrating with complimentary water, bottled water, cupcakes, and candies (chocolates, lolli pops, tootsee rolls, etc.). There were real bathrooms close by which was a amazing! On hot summer days port a potties just are not my cup of tea. Overall I thought this was a great event. Should they green the event (ex. ask participating vendors to use compostable cups, bring water bottles to refill) as well as make the "signature cocktail" contest more transparent for the vendors and attendees I would happily award it 5-stars.

Simple, the tarp system is antiquated and does not work in Lyons. Sure, in theory, when the "owners" of the large random tarps are not using them (most of the day), then anyone can use them in their absence. However, it is awkward walking on other peoples' tarps. It is inconvenient to find an open tarp. It is nearly impossible to find a place for a even a small two-person blanket. To illustrate the point, if I arrived early, I could bring a huge 15 X 20 tarp for 2-people and effectively take up a huge amount of space. I would never do that, but many others do. My question is, why even use the tarp system at all? If it was not in place, more people could sit though the entire set that they came to see, then move when not watching the stage during other artists' sets-- i.e. the way most other festivals operate. I concede that the system works better at the much larger Telluride Bluegrass Festival as there are places near the stage to stand, there are places in the back to stand, and there is always plenty of space for people to come and go with tarps and blankets. Not so in Lyons. I had a 3 day pass and had to sit in the river on the first 2 days and found a small spot in the back for my blanket on Sunday. That is, with 3 high back chairs placed in front of the blanket while I went to get something to eat. Not cool. I might not be so disappointed, but this same thing happened last year, it happened again this year, and I can expect that it will happen next year. The most frustrating thing is that we arrived before noon each day and the spots were taken before that time. I understand that many people are camping and on vacation, so they can run to set up and take all the spots each morning. However, many of us live in the metro and work, thus we cannot be there first thing in the morning. Does that mean that we should not get good seats? I guess so, despite paying the same price per ticket as the others. Is it infuriating that most of the people that stake their claims with their tarps are hardly ever at their seat? Yes. I learned in grade school that it is not OK to "save seats." Apparently, we throw that general rule out the window at RockyGrass. Still, great music. I will be back.

The scariest part not being able to breathe! Yes there are actors but far and few between. Maybe 5 in the whole haunted house. Total waste of 75$ if you ask me. They don't even have a bathroom. You have to go to the bar across the parking lot. I mean at least get a port o potty like Jesus! They are making bank and obviously not putting it towards the haunted house or actors... they should at least get a rent a sh*tter!

There's a tent to protect from the heat and pretty good food from various establishments. This year we heard Salsa (Conjunto Colores), wonderful vocal (Dee Alexander), straight ahead (Ron Miles), and a funky group (Liquid Soul). This exemplifies a perfect day of every genre. Well organized, peaceful and a great crowd . . . Near perfection for the jazz lover. One tiny criticism, which may not be fixable, is that a standing audience crowds the stage which isn't appreciated by those who occupy chairs behind them.

The singers are unintelligible. It's not their mikes. The acoustics are just awful. And the venue knows it - they've installed dozens of acoustic panels; and the sound is still terrible. We booked this venue for our performance. On the day of the event, we were given no sound or light…read moresupport, to which the owner blamed us continuously and have continued to do so in response to other patrons' reviews. This caused us to try and get the sound working ourselves on a sound system that is completely broken. They have also continued to insist that the system is not broken, though a different performance earlier that week was delayed by 2 hours due to the state of the system, and they had their own professional roadies to handle the sound. They reported a system that is unfit for professional use in its current state. What followed was the most humiliating performance as the owner walked out as soon as the show began, leaving us playing sound though one speaker in pitch dark aside for the spotlight. We weren't even shown how to bring up the house lights for intermission. We were delayed by half an hour, during which time some attendees left. During this delay, damage to the sound system was coming though at hearing damaging volume while we were running sound tests. We ran the same show at a different venue a few weeks prior and had no such issues. It is clear this is a fault of the venue and it's management. They fact they did not deliver on providing us with a functional venue and have continued to be rude and accusatory shows a frankly impressive level of unprofessionalism. Additionally, I spoke to attendees and they relayed that the waitstaff had no idea what kind of refreshments were being provided. That same waitstaff talked so loudly over the show, I could hear them from beside the stage on the other side of the room. The performers could hear them on stage while speaking. About half of the attendees left before the show ended. It was one of the most stressful and humiliating experiences I have had with any business. It is clear that the owners would like to blame us rather than take any responsibility for their failings. They have a non-funtional venue, extremely overpriced food, and undertrained and underpaid staff. There is a very good reason this venue has as many negative reviews as it does. I urge you to not attend or book this venue to save yourself a world of trouble.

Finally pulled the trigger and took a day trip out and the treats were well worth the drive! They do not have actual food (except for sweet treats) but they do recommend bringing your own lunch to have a picnic. They have many picnic tables for you to sit at and enjoy the weather, under a big tent. Staff and service were absolutely great - super friendly and welcoming. You are able to pet the animals but not human food! They do have donkey food that you can purchase in the store.
