I always enjoy visiting Whimsy paint. Last time, I went with a few friends and we had a blast. The session lasts two and a half hours and as always, my only issue is with the pacing. We are given too much time during the first couple hours and all of a sudden the last steps speed up. The instructor insists you can stay longer if needed, which is nice, but by then, I doubt anyone wants to. I wonder if they slow things down so that people get more drinks, and when it's too late to order more, things move much faster. In any case, it's too bad! read more

Totally disappointed. I came here when they first opened and it was super fun. Came back a couple times but this last time was a huge let down. We bid on a gift certificate to this place at an action. So I was not 100% sure I was going to like this; I am really not artistic at all. I really don't like painting but I do like drinking so it does have one thing I like so we will give it a shot! So we get there the staff is very friendly and explains you find a canvas and an apron get a cocktail and they will start the class soon. We did that, then to the cocktails, I was happy to find that they were not over priced at all in fact the beer was dirt cheap $3! We started the class and they really did give you step by step instructions to paint the picture of the night but they were also very clear you could go on your own way if you wanted. By the end of the night it was very cool to see all the different types of the same general painting!! Overall a ton of fun!! I think the Whimsy Team was done a phenomenal job of keeping everyone going through this latest round of shut down. The recorded and zoom classes offer something for everyone. I have truly enjoyed the on-line classes and will do more in the future I am looking forward to being back in the studio with them. I love the humor and personal instruction. I took my 6 year old son today for the first time and he had the most amazing experience. I first I thought he was going to hace a hard time because the other kids were older, but the art teacher was so patient and so thorough given explanations that he ended up doing an awesome job. I paid $45 for a painting class here. For $45, I expected that there would be at least one glass of house wine included. No wine included, but you are welcome to buy a glass for $5. ($50 for painting and a glass of wine - that's pricey!!) Whimsy is totally a cute studio/bar area. The class was suppose to start at 6:30pm. The actual painting started at 7:10pm. and I didn't leave there until 9:30pm. The instructor was good, and I did have fun learning to paint. I just had high expectations for a $45 painting class. I would give 5 stars if Whimsy allowed people bring in a bottle of wine (or bottle of water...) or give out a glass of house wine and would appreciated a starting time of 6:45pm. I love coming to Whimsy! Sometimes I come with a friend or two for a fun night out, and sometimes by myself, but either way I have fun. All of the artists / staff are friendly and I know many of them by now from coming here several times. There is a wide variety of paintings on their calendar, which keeps things from getting boring (though I may have missed out on one or two since there are so many paintings!) and they also do fun things at their Meetup Art Club like painting clocks, aprons, and other fun stuff. I also really like that they do a lot of Facebook contests like "Name That Painting" game where you can submit a name for a new painting, and the winning name gets to come paint for free. There's also a wide variety of drinks, with and without alcohol - I love the Izze's! It would be cool if they could do some alcoholic beverages that aren't wine or beer, like margaritas or daquiris, but they do have Mike's and mimosas, too, so that's cool. They also have open studio time which is nice, so I can come in and touch up a few things on paintings I've done before - very satisfying for my inner perfectionist. I think most people, myself included, are their own worst art critics. After I've spent a few hours on a painting I can't appreciate it as much, so often I'll put my painting away when I get home and leave it out of sight for a week or so. When I come back to it a week later I can look at it with fresh eyes and I usually like the way it looks more. But at the end of the day it's not about making a perfect looking painting, it's about letting loose, giving my artistic side some room to explore, and having a fun night out. What a fun way to spend a Saturday evening with the girls. The ladies in my family try to do a girls night occasionally and we hadn't done one in a while. My aunt decided that it was time for another one and suggested we go out and do something a little out of the norm for all of us. Enter Whimsy Paint & Sip. There is plenty of parking since it's located in the Orchard Town Center and pretty easy to find. When you walk in you have your choice of seats and I think if you are there early enough your can reserve seats for your entire party. Each station has a canvas, 3 paint brushes and a pallet of paint for the masterpiece that you will be creating that evening. They offer wine by the glass and certain wines by the bottle, beer & water for your sipping pleasure. They also have a handful of snacks available to purchase. While you can't bring any outside drinks in, they do allow you to bring food since much isn't offered in the way of sustenance. The staff is friendly and extremely helpful throughout the entire session. They play great music the entire time and even break to do a little dance party to a certain movie soundtrack. Like I said, it was a great way to spend a Saturday night with some really great people. This would also be a great team building exercise or a great place to come for a holiday outing with friends if you are looking to do something different. Painting, dancing, drinking and laughing - the cure all! Now if I could just figure out where to hang my masterpiece..... Enjoy! read more

Came here for a night out and I grabbed the apron they provided us, it had TRUMP written on the front of it. Why is this necessary? Why bring politics into a paint & sip studio? Very unprofessional. Also they started class late and were very rude. We were not greeted when we came in and we were rushed out before some of us were even able to finish our paintings. The instructor was very impatient with us. Will not recommend this place to anyone. I felt very discriminated against because I am Hispanic. My group was ignored the entire time. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE!!! So I've been to canvas and cocktails 3 times, but immediately when I walked in, I felt that these paintings just appeared so much better. More life, more color! I wanted to surprise my boyfriend for our 4 year anniversary since he's never been to one of these. We had a blast! The class we were attending actually got canceled, but LINDSAY, our artist, was SUPER AWESOME! She let us choose any painting and basically gave us a private session. I got 2 certificates as a gift and had heard good things about Whimsy.. And I'm happy to report that it's all true! It was a fantastic experience! Came to this with a girlfriend and we had an absolute blast! Well worth the money, I totally would do a few of these classes. I arrived late (mix of unforeseeable traffic and work obligations) I arrived roughly 30 minutes late and felt a bit flustered (at first) for missing so much of the class- but the ladies at Whimsy got me caught up to speed rather quickly .. They were fantastic! Drinks are very reasonable and the instructors were super patient. Music was fantastic- a great way to spend an afternoon or evening with your gal pals (or guy pals). What fun! I purchased a LivingSocial coupon for this place and experienced my first ever paint and sip wine night at Whimsy! The last art class I took was in high school. I was a little nervous given my talent extends to doodles! The instructor was very friendly and fun and let us move at a somewhat slow pace. I am extremely happy with the painting I made and can't wait to do it again! Great music too! To be honest however, I probably will not return to Whimsy very often. I live in south Boulder and Erie is a little too far away. I only paid $22 for the night with my LS coupon but regular pricing is at $45. And drinks are extra! Yikes. At first the idea of a place that shows a bunch of people how to paint a picture seemed really corny to me. But then I went there. . . . I was in love after just 10 minutes. I went by myself, but I wasn't alone. 2 wonderful ladies made me a part of their night out. The staff was awesome. The actual painting was a blast! The whole place was so much more than I expected. I went here last night with a group of friends and was pleasantly surprised!! I was looking forward to a girls night out, and always wanted to do one of these classes. But by no means was I expecting to have that much fun!! The atmosphere was undeniably energetic, the staff and instructors literally couldn't have been any better, and drinks were exceptionally reasonable!! This is the 3rd "Paint and sip" type of business I've tried out. The first two were either too loud or the instructor was in a big hurry, rushing through the instructions. Today I took a class with Lindsay and Krista and had a blast. Lindsay was super patient, explaining things very well and in a way that was easy to understand. Krista helped give some one-on-one tips when I got stuck. Also, when Lindsay was teaching us the techniques, they turned the music down so that we could hear them. (Why don't ALL painting studios do this???) And even when they turned the music back up it wasn't at an ear-splitting level. Plus it was great music! Lindsay and Krista went out of their way to make me feel welcome and comfortable, even though I was there by myself. I'll be there quite often as it was fun, easy to follow along, and the staff was extremely supportive and fun, too. read more

I've been here twice in the past year and I have to say that I've had MUCH better experiences at other places. Specifically Canvas & Cocktails in Cherry Creek. While I love that Whimsy is so close to my house, they are just lacking the "fun" element and the "teaching" leaves much to be desired. I took my work team here and none of them had done anything like this before. So when the instructors rushed through each step it was rather frustrating! The point of going here is to be creative while being assisted. If the instructors just run through it quickly, there is not much actual learning going on and everyone becomes frustrated because they feel they are "no good" at it. The instructors felt very disconnected, one of them barely smiled at all then had the nerve to ask for tips! I think not! I will definitely keep doing these painting days with friends and co-workers but it will not be at Whimsy! read more

I absolutely loved my experience at Whimsy! I have attended one other paint and sip business, and Whimsy was a better experience. I used a groupon deal for Whimsy and came in on a Friday night. It was busy, which makes the experience more fun. The teacher was great. She explained the painting well and added some fun jokes. The supplies provided are excellent. The best part of Whimsy is the music played. It was the perfect soundtrack for a ladies night. At the end of the night, I was very happy with my final product and with my experience. The only downfalls with Whimsy are the price -- I wouldn't pay full price for the experience, and I am glad there was a groupon for it-- and the fact that the high price does not include a drink. The other paint and sip business I attended included one beverage with the ticket price. If Whimsy offered a drink with the ticket price, I would be willing to pay the full price ticket and give five stars. read more

The concept and atmosphere was cool for the most part, but we went for a friends birthday and didn't bother to take super clear pictures because they took some shots and informed us they post all photos on their FB page. After a few days went by and we started seeing more recent photos posted (but not ours), I wrote an inquiry comment to no response. Finally I wrote an email and they told me their computer crashed and apparently our session's pictures only were lost - but don't worry, they just got a new computer! Ok...not super helpful to me. I bought a Groupon to paint at Whimsy with my husband - thought it would be a fun date night. Unfortunately, when the date I picked rolled around he got called out on an emergency.....what to do? Go and paint alone? or punt the two 'paid for' slots and chalk it up to experience? I went. I am so glad I did! I had a great time! The paint they use at Whimsy is of excellent quality, the music is fun, and the options for painting are limited only to your imagination! I could've painted along with the instructed piece, but chose to branch out on my own and paint a different option. The staff saw what I was doing and moved the sample painting closer to where I was working so I could see it better. They let me paint on my own, stopped by to see how I was doing, and encouraged me along the way. I love my painting - first ever painting on canvas - and I had a ball! Thanks, Whimsy! read more

My coworker and I came here to paint Yellow Petals back in June after finding a deal on Groupon, and we had a blast! The staff helped everyone get set up with supplies, the bartender walked around to refresh our cocktails throughout the night, and the artist had a great sense of humor while instructing everyone on how to create this painting. When the artist wasn't instructing, we were on our own to create our masterpiece while listening to all kinds of fun and funky music (lots of good 80's!). There were a few opportunities to win a free drink throughout the night and anyone celebrating a special occasion was treated to a free goodie! I had so much fun that I have decided to coordinate a Girls Night Out for my best friend's birthday next month to paint Funkitini's! I had purchased a seat for a session this morning and woke up to this winter storm we've been hearing about and knew I wouldn't be able to make the drive up from Denver. I called them and left a message and Christina called me back right away and said I could get a credit to use for another class and I'd get an email. I went her for my 30th birthday and had such a great time. The staff was so great really got the energy going. I am not an artist by any means can barely draw a stick figure to look like a person and they helped coach us all through our piece where you can actually tell what it is supposed to be.
