They clean the fish for you right on the spot and we came home with a couple of meals for all of us. You could easily catch as many as you want, but for price consideration we stopped at 3 a peice. We brought a fly rod and the three of us shared time fishing the trophy pond, that is catch and release. That was also super fun and more of challenge than the keeper ponds. After fishing we walked around the grounds for a bit which was also nice. I highly recommend a visit.

Upon entering you feel like your miles away from the city! Parking is free and admission is $5 per adult. The visitor center is a charming little building with a quaint little gift shop filled with local products and a Discovery room that showcases various reptiles. The staff member gives you a rundown of the trails and hands you a nifty little map. And off you go to explore! There are plenty of things to see including but not limited to: Birds of Prey area, Observation Towers, picnic areas, ponds, etc. So it's much more than just brush and trees. Bring a pair of binoculars and you might see some native wildlife. Soak in the sunshine and enjoy the bird calls and sounds if wildlife! In late March the trees are still bare this year so I can only imagine what it looks like when all the foliage comes in. Definitely a great way to spend a warm, sunny morning on a solo walk or with friends and famiy. And on the cheap.

The Ogden Nature Center is a 152 acre nature preserve and education center located in Ogden, Utah…read moreoff of 12th street. Although it is located within eyeshot of the freeway in some spots, you actually forget you are in the middle of town and I am consistently impressed by the gorgeous views of our mountains surrounding Ogden. The nature center is a fabulous year round retreat that we can spend an hour, or a whole day exploring. The only complaint I have about the nature center is the hours, it closes at 5pm - which is truly too early for my family, my son gets off school at 3:00; by the time we make it to the center and park- its 3:20 and we are left with only 90 minutes or so to explore and walk around. Saturdays are 9-4, Sundays they are closed altogether. I understand closing early in the winter but I would like to see longer summer hours- however I also know its volunteer run, so longer hours may be out of the question. Our first stop when we visit the nature center, after walking the short birdhouse trail to the visitor center, is to sign in and visit the animals in the visitor center. Gizmo the owl is a huge hit with our family. Right outside are the birds of prey; and this is our favorite part of the nature center. From Chitters the great horned owl to a funny and brilliant raven, a giant golden eagle and an injured bald eagle; there are amazing birds here to learn from. The birds here are well cared for by volunteers and all are there having been nursed back to health but for one reason or another were not able to be released back into the wild. While walking around the nature center we have seen quite a few beautiful animals, we always see deer and it's not a good visit without peeking out the bird blinds and trying to find some tadpoles or frogs. Our favorite place to play is the treehouse in the northwest corner. The kids love running up and down and peeking out from the top, it is also a great place to stop and have lunch or a snack. Created in 1975, it was Utah's first nature center. The center includes live animal exhibits, walking trails, ponds, bird blinds, observation towers, tree houses, gardens featuring drought resistant plants, and protected areas for wildlife. It offers nature-based classes and activities for children and adults. It is fun year round, we have visited while it was snowing, and while it was 100 degrees- it was fun either way and the shaded areas make it a nice place to hang out in the summer. With memberships starting at $30 for an individual and $45 for a family, it is worth every penny to me to have a safe and fun place for my kids to explore, run, walk, and enjoy the beauty of our town. There are student discounts, you can certainly make larger contributions, and volunteer opportunities. My favorite thing about the nature center is that I almost always see someone out working on something, whether it's tending to the birds, cleaning up a trail, or maintaining a pond- people are actively working to keep this beautiful reserve pristine for years to come. The Nature Center even offers summer camps, ranging from week-long camps to day camps for kids of all ages.

Ugh. Literally the worst service on the planet. Food is good but so few wait staff that they will…read moreliterally forget you are there. It took 1 1/2 hours this morning. Horrible service. You know how no one is keeping track of who came in or when? Times 10 here. Not a mask in the place either. No masks on staff or cooks. No wiping up. Filthy. If you go, take alcohol wipes, and wait until afternoon. They should be able to keep up after the brunch lunch crowd finishes. We saw three groups leave disgusted while we were there. It's not the wait time, it's the "I'll be right with you....." and then nothing for an hour and everyone else that came three groups after you is getting their food before your order is even taken. We had to embarrassingly speak to them three times to finally get served, and the first two times, the person asked someone else to come get our order and that person got confused and took someone else's order. Good scone. So go late and be very direct about what you want. Don't let them "give you a minute to look at the menu." Make them wait right there.

The scenery is stunning- surrounded by mountains, trees, wildflowers, and the ranch horses all up in the canyon just a short drive from the city. When I was there they had live music out on the patio stage which was unexpected and fantastic. I ordered the house burger and waffle fries. Not the best burger I have eaten but very good. The waffle fries were a nice novelty and very good. They did not have a kids menu but the staff offered to cook up a custom grilled cheese sandwich, which was perfect. One of the best things on the menu is genuine sun tea - hard to find these days. I also found the staff exceptionally friendly and helpful. I asked about the local area and they gave me some great tips. Definitely worth a trip back up the canyon for this one!

Take in the epic views of the great salt lake from up high, walk along the coastline of the lake. There hiking trails up the mountains. There are bison all over to explore and photograph, as well as tons of species of birds to watch. If you're lucky you'll spot some Antelope or long horn sheep. Saw lots and local bicyclists, I imagine it wpuld be a blast to ride. You can park at the entrance and ride in at a small parking lot. The drive down the eastern coast is spectacular and if you don't mind a dirt road you can continue for a little further to the southern tip. Or stop at the pavement and check out the ranch that's been there for generations. What a cool place, I am so glad I got to visit an check it out. Ext time I'll stay for an extended period in one of the campgrounds!!

Over the past year, Utah has introduced me to inspiring people that have an idea and then proceed to DO SOMETHING about it. Nicole Ames and her husband, Glen, are in that group. After visiting other cities that endorse local businesses through tourism they decided that 25th Street was missing this amazing opportunity. Nicole, founder of the Good Eats Tour, rallied all the participants on Grant and 25th Street around 1:30pm on Saturday. We were introduced to each other and briefed on our tour. My partners-in-crime for this gluttonous day included my husband, Jason, and my Grandma, Sandra. I love food (my backside can attest to this ) but I also love meeting new people, learning new things and spending time with my favorite peeps so I knew this tour would be perfect. Nicole explained the inspiration for the Good Eats Tour name. Her Grandma Sloan owned the Good Eats Café in Ogden where she met her Grandfather. The story has been retold over generations and while she doesn't have proof of this, she chooses to believe it's true. Being a sucker for an amazing love story, I believe it too. When you experience the Good Eats Tour make sure to bring water! It gets very hot in the summer months and you'll be happy to have it. The Good Eats Food Tours isn't just about discovering new restaurants and food, it's about rediscovering Ogden's history and its future. Nicole peppered us with fun, interesting facts about Ogden's sordid past of bootleg, prostitution, and the Electric Alley. She also reminded us of Ogden's willingness to help those in need like when the poor and destitute arrived through Union Station, we welcomed them and came together as a community. Finally, the Good Eats Food Tours, wouldn't be nearly as fun without Nicole and her commitment to ensuring we had the best experience possible. Also, we got lucky and made a few new friends along the way. Faye and Ron have been married over 23 years and after I blurted out, "and you still like each other?" they just giggled. I was a little worried about this since I am not LDS. I Believe there were more non LDS travelers than LDS. Those who were did not mind that I had a glass of wine at dinner and were very friendly and inclusive. The tour was slower paced than tours I've taken with other companies. Also the only meals included were hotel breakfasts. Sometimes eating other meals was challenging due to location. I think the our good have been better organized and something's omitted and others added. The price is very reasonable but I don't feel you get as much compared to other companies. I would travel with them again but carefully review the itinerary and make sure I had snacks with me.
