Now mind you it is historical, so the seats can be a bit tight if you are working with winter jackets and football sized men. The bathrooms are certainly a bit of a game here if you are here for a show that has a intermission. The security line at the front door can be a bit challenging on a cold winter day, but there are additional entrances through the skyway and side entrance. The lobby has many bars that are very quick every time we go. If you do pay on a card, they automatically add a 18% tip.

I came in for a Theatre Elision production and I was STUNNED by the quality. They put on "Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812" and it was one of the best music-theater shows I have ever seen. And my credentials in that area are extremely respectable, if I do say so myself. As a venue for theater, this space is small but capable. The lobby has enough table seating in front of an elevated stage that at first I assumed that's where the show was going to take place. But no, the actual theater has all the trappings that a real company would expect, in a semi-black-box auditorium that allows flexibility. There is a selection of beer and wine, and not much else at the little concession counter. The production I saw was so good that I will talk about it with friends for the rest of my life. Super polished, extremely high level of musicianship, and an infectious energy level to match. Theatre Elision did such a remarkable job with this show that I will probably make the drive from St Paul to Crystal regularly for the foreseeable future to see what they do next.

The lobby area is a quaint space with various seating options along with a bar from which to enjoy a beverage. The productions seem to be smaller cast productions with an intimate audience/actor experience. Seating was decent as there are armless chairs in the front and back row, with traditional armed theatre chairs for the smaller/regular sized folk. The talent was great as was the production. There was plenty of parking around the building.

Prices on beverages were a little wild considering the amount we received ($16+ for less than half a glass of Sauvignon Blanc) and the additional 18% automatically tacked on. I wish expectation for photos was more clearly marked. I didn't see anything when I went in (I definitely could've missed it). The instructions provided by the security (?) of no video but ok with photo was confusing when they came back a second time to say no more photos.

Incredible Art Deco interior that will occupy your mind while you are waiting in quiet desperation for the act you came to see. Beer, wine and a limited bar offers the patrons something to enjoy your event with. The audio is generally pretty good, depending on where you sit. The seats are extremely tight, not much leg room and a bit uncomfortable after a while. I feel like the guides weren't very helpful at getting people to their seats. I I'm still not sure where they label the sections, I had to ask several people and that made some other people realize they were in the wrong seats/section. The lobby opens 1 hr before the show but the doors to be seated don't open until 30 min prior. I suggest getting there 15-20 min before the show starts for smoother entry. You will still have time to grab a drink and find your seats without the hassle of the pre show crowd. It was so chaotic. The drinks are spendy for what you get but they don't take tips so I guess it somewhat evens out. You can request a lid for your drink which for me is a must in these crowded spaces. Not my fav theatre but the if there's a play I'd like to see, I'd go here!

While in town I stopped by here on a Saturday afternoon in hopes that I would get to go inside and…read moresee this place. Little did I know that I would get to that and then some. Upon arriving the streets in the area were blocked off that were having a community event involving several businesses, etc. Walking up to Capri Theater was an experience in itself has I stopped by a TV crew and asked my thoughts on the event and what they were trying to accomplish. After that somewhat uncomfortable moment I made my way to Capri Theater. To my surprise it was open and the staff quickly invited me and my friends inside to experience the place. A little background on the theater; it was built in 1927 was initially known as Paradise Theater. Having gone through several renovations over the years, a renovation projected in the 1965-1967 timeframe expanded the seating capacity to ~500 and it was at this time that it was renamed to Capri Theater. Today, the Capri Theater is owned and operated by Plymouth Christian Youth Center. It seats ~300 and from what I could see, there doesn't seem to be a bad seat in the house. The focus is on continuing to be a beacon in the community where youth can find a safe and welcoming environment to explore crafts, arts, performing arts,etc. Of special importance to me is what occurred on January 5 and 6, 1979 at the Capri Theater. On those days Prince played his first shows as solo artist. Tickets to the performances cost less than $5 and proceeds from the first night went to Capri Theater. As I mentioned the staff was very, very warm and welcoming. Both James and Graham were gracious with their time; answering all our questions. They made us feel at home and mostly let us wander the place. As part of my wandering I happened to peek into the auditorium and to my surprise, the screen had a slide show going with images of Prince. As I stood in the doorway watching the slideshow, Graham noticed me and encouraged me to go inside and check it out. He said it was okay to go up on the stage and just take in the place. About that same time, he put on playlist of Prince music; needless to say, I was in heaven. In the end, my friends and I spent over an hour in auditorium, on stage and sitting in the seats just taking it all in. A BIG thank you to Graham and James for making stop/experience was the highlight of my trip. Lastly, the Capri Theater is undertaking a renovation project to expand their offering to the community. In addition to making updates there will be additional classrooms and multi-purpose spaces along with spaces for developing crafts skills such as wood working. Check their website (thecapritheater.org/) to learn more about this upcoming project. While you're there, take time to contribute to a very worthy initiative.

The theater was a good size where all had a good view. It was busy in a good way with staff accommodating the crowds well which allowed for quick and easy check-in and entry. Definitely would attend this theater again.
