I used to go to this place to get my smog done as it was convenient. But lately, the smog person changed and he is extremely difficult to deal with! He's looking for reasons to fail you. He made me wait 30 to 40 minutes and then told me that my car wouldn't pass, even though I had factory installed items from Ford for my Ford focus RS. Please do not go to him as I would not recommend him ever again. You don't work or make money from the state so stop acting like an a****** that you are!! read more

Quick, efficient smog test at a good price. The only thing I'd improve is the parking sign. I didn't see it, so I pulled to the side of the building and was asked if I'd read the sign before being told slightly rudely to park in a spot and walk in. The instructions were fine, but a larger sign or a friendlier tone would've made the experience better. Went to this smog test station today. Super easy. Very nice staff. $59, plus a $10 discount with my AAA card. Did not have to wait long. They do tell you how long that it will probably be, so you can decide whether to wait in their waiting room or go to Starbucks for a cup of coffee or go get lunch at one of the places at Beachside mini mall. Good news - My car passed the test! Bad news, the mechanic did tell me that there was evidence that rats have been using my little car as a budget motel. Hazard of parking outside in my hood. Has happened to my next door neighbor as well. The mechanic did have a card for someone who could steam clean my engine and get rid of the evidence. Then he recommended putting Bounce fabric softener sheets in the corners of my hood. Rats evidently hate the smell of those things. Another thing, besides a love of snacks, that I in common with rats. This smog station is right off the 5, west of the Del Mar Heights exit. Very convenient except during the fair and horse racing seasons. The AAA office is right in the Beachside mall, so you can just bring your smog certificate over there when you're done and get your tags. Bring a check (remember those?)_or cash with you to AAA because AAA will add a 2% surcharge if you use a charge card. read more

Been through here a couple of times now to get smog certificates prior to going around the corner to pick up registration tags at AAA. Each time, Rod has helped me out and each time it's been a quick and easy process. Fill out the top portion of the form, wait for the test to be completed and after about 10 minutes, you're out the door on the way to pickup your stickers. They have a comfortable waiting area with ample space for about 6 customers. Also located next to 7 eleven, so grab a slurpee and by the time you're back, car is done. I came at 1:00 PM on a Saturday, with one car in the bay. The proprietor asked me to fill out a form while he finished the previous test. His inspection was thorough, the test procedure completed with minimal fuss and my 20 year old car was out the door with a passing grade in about 20 minutes. I did not hear any untoward language, nor anything other than polite discourse with me and the three other men and women who came in while my car was being tested.
