The staff is kind, but you only need to look at the dirty, disorganized front-office conditions that the human caretakers live in to understand the condition of the dog care. Trust your instincts. It is not a good place. The facilities are old and not well-kept. The building is basically a junky warehouse with some fenced-in parking lots and a pop-up tent for shade. I took my dog there because it was the only place in the vicinity of Apple's campus that didn't have a wait list, and it is easy to understand why. In the first week there, I picked up my dog with a big scratch on his snout that was bleeding. He's a medium dog and was placed in the large pen. When I realized and called, the girl said, 'Yeah, the dogs were playing really rough.' And tried to say that natural conditions for dogs are like when you drop your kid off at daycare, sometimes they come home with a bruise." When I asked that he be placed with smaller dogs, they said no. I would not recommend this space to anyone! read more

He first went to the weekly puppy socials (where he learned how to deal with other dogs and we got some advice on handling our dog). Once old enough, he started daycare 5 days a week and we would board him during vacations. He loves it there and everyone at KK9 loves him. When we arrive, he happily heads right to the door of his room (only stopping briefly to smell the food on the shelves). We are retired now so he goes to daycare just twice a week...to maintain his dog socialization skills and relationships with the caregivers...which makes boarding him during our travels so very easy (for him and us). Have been taking our boy Arthur to Klub K9 for years and it's about time we wrote a review. Arthur loves coming to daycare or boarding when we can't take him on out of town adventures. The love and recognition that he's always welcomed with definitely help make us more comfortable dropping him off. And he's definitely comfortable there, getting excited as soon as we turn on to the street and ready to run in as soon as I take his leash off. The team is friendly and really loves the dogs. I started reading the horrible reviews for Klub K9 while using the webcam to check on my Bichon Frise, Teo, and I feel compelled to leave another perspective. Teo loves this place and the staff love him. He is so excited in the car when he realizes where he is that he cries for joy (so loud that the staff inside can hear him). We all laugh when I bring him in because he jumps out of my arms and makes a b-line to the playroom door without even a glance back. This morning he barked at the staff because they weren't opening the door fast enough. He loves this place. He has been going to daycare 2-3 times a week for the last couple of years, and has been boarded a few times too. He comes home stinky but that is the price you pay for allowing your dog to enjoy himself playing with other dogs. The staff here are very good about cleaning up messes. In fact, just after this picture was taken, Teo was sniffing at a puddle of pee. Within moments, a staff member with a bucket and mop showed up and wiped it up. While we were traveling, we took Teo to a groomer in Seattle that was attached to a doggie daycare. The facility was half the size of KK9, and I swear, there was more poop on the floor than dogs running around. It was disgusting. Poor dogs couldn't take two steps without running into another pile of poop. It was eye opening and makes me appreciate the staff here at KK9 even more. As for the dog trainer, I have never met him. However, I do know there are two approaches to dog training. One uses positive reinforcement (treats) and the other uses dominance (the dog should do what you want them to do because you are the master). Police dogs are trained using the latter method and it can seem cruel. But, it also insures the dog will do exactly what they are told when they are told it. The positive reinforcement method allows the dog to decide if they want the treat more than continuing what they are doing. The goal is the behavior will become a habit over time and the dog will forget about the other possibilities and do what you want without thinking about it. We use the positive reinforcement method with Teo and he obeys for a couple of months, and then he just stops listening. The good thing about Teo is that he is a 12 pound Bichon who loves everyone. We don't have to worry about anyone getting hurt if he doesn't listen. We just have to worry about his safety. read more

This past New Year's, my wife and I planned a 2 week-long vacation to celebrate my grandmother's 100th birthday. It is usually rare for us to venture out of state for long periods of time because we have a lovely 7 year old pug who is diabetic, partially blind and has other health complications. However, because of this momentous celebration I was willing to make an exception and decided on Klub K9 for her dog boarding. Prior to the dog boarding appointment, we were pretty stressed out. Our dog suffered a large abscess around Thanksgiving which required emergency surgery. Then the day before Christmas eve we discovered another lump which we treated with antibiotics. By this point I was nervous leaving for our trip due to the uncertainty of our dog's health but after meeting the team during our drop off it made us feel at ease. I couldn't be any more pleased with the support, attention and care they provided for our dog. She is very high maintenance requiring a lot of monitoring and medication but the level of patience and compassion I received was unmatched to any other place we've taken her. Sadie greeted us and performed a very comprehensive intake as we reviewed our dog's medications. Afterwards, she allowed time for us to ask any questions or share any concerns we had. I was impressed with how efficient, understanding and precise they were. During our time away, they were responsive when I reached out and accommodated our requests since I was under still overwhelmed from our recent health scare. I want to personally shout out Mike for his attentiveness. He made an extraordinary effort to improve our dog's comfort as well as kept me calm and relaxed providing updates throughout our trip. When we returned, our dog was just as we left her if not better. She was ecstatic and energetic upon our arrival and the staff shared with us how comfortable she was during her stay learning the layout quickly and dozing off throughout the day. I highly recommend Klub K9 for their dog boarding services. Klub K9 is a place you should think about sending your fur babies here. These pictures have been bothering me for awhile and I think I should give a review about it. I have heard a lot from my fellow colleagues and not good things either. None of these pictures are professional at all. I came in on a Saturday and I thought they opened up at 7 but they open at 8. As I walked in no one was around but the door was unlocked so anyone can come in and that is not good either. I see this poor old dog just laying in his pee and poop around him and I felt so sorry for this dog! How can you as a human being leave him like that. On a another note why do they have alcohol beverages laying around like that and in the lobby restroom so clients can see. Months ago I have smelled a strong alcohol smell coming from the 2 big white girls that was in the office before and I didnt think of anything at first but this explains why. They are very unprofessional and shouldn't be smelling like that while working. I feel like this place has gotten worse since Charles left. Need new professional people to be in the office! My dog has been coming here about once or twice a week for the past 4-5 months. He's always eager to go in. It's fun to be able to watch him on the webcam. Some dogs play a lot, but being pack animals there's usually a bunch of them who just follow the caretaker up and down as she/he walks. When I can't see my dog, I wait until the caretaker comes into view and there he is. For us humans it looks boring and not conducive to lots of exercise, but at home, my dog lies around a lot now that he is out of the puppy stage. When at the daycare place, he's on his feet most of the day walking back and forth with the other dogs and he comes home really tired, hungry, and docile. This place has been a godsend for me when I've needed to do errands that take a lot of time. The caretakers, I notice, never touch the dogs (that would induce favoritism) or scold them. They keep the floors and outside clean at all times. No toys allowed (good thing). This is a good place. read more

I have been going to Klub K9 for 12 years and 3 dogs. My dogs are always SO EXCITED when they realize they're driving up to Klub K9. That says A LOT! I trust my fur babies' instincts. We use Klub K9 for daycare and boarding regularly and are SO THANKFUL for Charles and his team. They truly love dogs. And, most importantly, they understand dogs and pack mentality. I recently left a review on google about my experience and finished my report to BBB.org. Please read the google review for more context. Don't take your pet here if you are a responsible pet owner. If you are confident and competent, the resources online about training your pup are better suited for your time. The trainers there are tyrannical and borderline psychotic. He told me to move because I was providing a safe space for my dog in between my legs. I'm just standing there. There were a lot of puppies, obviously not dangerous. It was nice to see that all the puppies abandoned their owners and all come to me. I didn't call them, they came to me. Maybe I'm just that cool (not maybe I really am, verified cuz it happens often, everywhere). I can't help that dogs like me and wanna come be around me. One of the trainers didn't like that so he came over and told me to move. I ain't moving bud. Anyway, he proceeded to literally invaded my personal space and aggressively clapped his hands twice in my face, in my perspective it was hilariously disrespectful. I almost gave him a 3 piece and a soda. He got lucky today that he didn't. Like I said in the google review, if you like being disrespected, and watching dogs get abused, you should take your whole family there. Have fun! read more

Went there for a temperament evaluation, do not recommend. I understand what other 1 star reviewers mean. Many red flags: 1. Place located in an industrial plaza hidden all the way in the back of the lot. 2. The space smelled strongly of bleach when I entered. I realize they were cleaning with bleach but if the smell was overwhelming for me I don't know how overwhelming it will be for the dogs. 3. They don't know how to manage nervous/fearful dogs. A lot of dogs are fearful and become reactive if they sense danger, and daycares have staff that understand and work with such dogs. Not this one though. 4. The staff was not welcoming at all. A big part of leaving my dog at a daycare is whether people at the daycare are happy and friendly, because that's who we are with our dogs - but this place gave me the chills even before we started the temperament eval. While I have stated my experience above and do not recommend, please visit and make your own assessment. read more

I brought my first dog here for years and though he was shy, they took care of him. Brought my second dog as a puppy as part of the social class and watched him really blossom. I believe this experience contributed to him having no fear of other dogs. He is now 1 and no longer nervous about showing up to daycare. Night and day difference between the old (pre 2020) and new management. I had to change my 5-star review to 1 star, and wish I could give zero stars due to animal mistreatment. In 2010, a good friend that I trust introduced me to Klub K9 play center when my pack expanded to include a black/silver GSD. My dog was a frequent visitor of Klub K-9, took advantage of training being offered through the previous owner Mike which was incredibly insightful having never lived with a large breed working dog. We both received the necessary training that created an incredible bond until her passing in July of 2019. In January of 2020, trying to bring back some normalcy to a dogless home, it was time to expand the pack. Having such a positive experience with my previous dog and Klub K9, the decision was easy, or so I thought. My daughter was getting married in November 2020 and I made arrangements to board our new dog with Klub K9. Given the years that had passed, I was saddened to discover Mike sold the business, but happy to learn of his retirement (well earned Mike!). With any new dog, there's the initial interview and induction process to test the temperament of my dog which he easily passed. So far so good, so we thought. We dropped off our dog and away we went to the wedding festivities. While we were away, we periodically checked in via the camera links and saw our dog playing and appeared to be getting along with the rest of the pack. One disturbing thing we witnessed on camera was one of the male dog handlers being visibly annoyed by our dog's playfulness. When our dog tried to play with a dog who clearly wasn't interested, that person decided to "punish" our dog by forcing him to sit and watch while the other dog was given treats. I watched the footage thinking our dog was going to get a treat too, that never happened. The subsequent looks directed at our dog by the handler made clear this was intentional and part of his "punishment." Petty, to say the least. When we picked him up, our dog was noticeably traumatized in his behavior towards us. He wouldn't make eye contact, his head was held low and I noticed a slight limp which we initially chalked up to him being a bit sore from playing hard for a week. When we got him home, he acted like how I've seen abused dog behave, lethargic, withdrawn, no eye contact, favorite toys were of no interest and kept a his distance from us. Oh, the limping we noticed was caused by excessive undried bleach used on the floor, or some other type of chemical or heat exposure burn to all of his pads. Photos are NSFW. We took our dog to the vet, who confirmed his pads were indeed burned and would heal. As for the psychological impacts to our dog, it took us one month before we started seeing improvements in his eye contact, behavior and seeing him start acting like the trusting, energetic pup we had prior to the Klub K9 visit. Our whole family had to heal from this. We will never use Klub K9 services again. read more

Free play indoors and outdoors 15 hours of the day, with a lot of dogs and no crates at night (unless you request them). Dogs need to pass a temperament check, and be on flea + tick medication and a bunch of vaccinations. I've mostly interacted with Charles, but the whole team at Klub K9 is nice and attentive. A couple things things that may be dealbreakers for you: - I'm estimating a handler to dog ratio on the order of magnitude of 1:10 (more during holidays). They are pretty accommodating to requests, but your dog is not going to get around the clock 1:1 care here. - If your dog doesn't like, or is reactive towards other dogs they are not going to have a good time. Maybe look into a private room at Wag Hotel, at basically the same price. The Klub K9 facility is set in a block of warehouses. The onboarding and information rule book is a thick 20 pages. The dog parties here are top-notch every day of the year. It reminds me of hole-in-the-wall restaurants that serve great food along with equal helpings of the-customer-is-not-always-right. Keep this in mind when you read negative reviews. To my best guess my dog loves it here and they keep the space as safe as possible and because of that I give Klub K9 my highest recommendation. read more

Dear pet parents everywhere, This is something I never thought I would be in the position to write. Please do not send your pet to KlubK9. My dog, Marley, was under the care of Charles at KlubK9 for 7 days while my family and I were out of the country. Mind you we have sent Marley here when the place was under the management of Mike and we have never been placed in this situation. During these 7 days, Marley did not eat for 3 days and we were only called by the facility on the third day of his lost appetite. We were informed that he has not been moving and had a rash under his armpit. As any concerned pet parent we were confused because this is very irregular behavior for Marley. Marley is an extremely affectionate and outgoing dog and he LOVES food. We asked Charles for more information and he continuously misinformed on the state Marley was in. We asked them if they could take Marley to the vet and Charles said he was only able to at 10 am PST - because he was understaffed - which was too late (we were informed at 7 am PST). Knowing that would be too late we called family friends and arranged transport to his vet. After an hour of calling we were able to get Marley to the vet. After reaching the vet Marley's doctor informed us that he had lost 6 pounds (that means he was losing a pound or more a day). The doctor informed us how severe the infection was and that they needed to shave him (most of his body) and treat the infection. They informed us that Marley's wounds were extremely smelly (smelt of urine); mind you Marley is 8 years old and is extremely well behaved and he never pees on himself (allowing us to conclude it was some other dog's urine or he was in such a weakened state that he could not get up and pee). Including his infection he was extremely dehydrated and had a 103.5 fever. Marley was tested for all possible conditions and the blood test for infection came back positive. He needed to be given fluids and antibiotics intravenously because of the severity of his condition. DOGS DO NOT PEE WHERE THEY SLEEP. It is extremely unhealthy for them and is an inhumane habitat for them to be in. After properly being informed of Marley's condition, we were infuriated. We continuously called Charles and he became defensive to the point of yelling and being incredibly rude. The vet has provided images of Marley's condition among arrival and they are incredibly graphic. He went from being 100% to being nearly close to critical care in a week. This man should not at all be in charge of dogs. At the point of arrival, my dad asked how many dogs were in Charles's care and he said that there were 140 dogs in his care and also informed my mom that he was understaffed (when we asked him to transfer him to the vet). If you are unable to take care of dogs then do not. Charles should be reported for reckless endangerment and animal cruelty. He should not be in the business of taking care of peoples animals as he is willfully neglectful. Deserves 0 stars. Please inform your friends and family who are pet parents, tell everyone you can. I would avoid this place like the plague. One of the trainers Charles has zero empathy for dogs, he should be jailed for running such a torturous space for dogs. We left our poor corgi with them for 7 days, and when we picked him up he had a raging infection under both his legs, bleeding and filled with pus. They said nothing to us when we picked him up, we found out about it when we returned home. We had to rush him to the vet- the infection was so serious and ignored for more than 4 days, for which we got a $900 bill!! When we called Charles, expecting some concern or help to figure out what happened, he reacted defensively and aggressively, saying he didn't care if the dog got an infection, just if the pet got attacked by another dog. UNBELIEVABLE! He then tried to gaslight my husband, calling him dumb, saying he didn't understand, and a variety of other insults. My first one-star review. Never thought I'd experience a kennel like this first hand. We were in a bind and there was vacancy, so we thought we'd see for ourselves if there was merit to critical reviews. First, employees don't talk and won't make eye-contact. The 'entrance test' involves having 3 increasingly larger and hand-selected aggressive dogs, including a 120-pounder, intimidate your dog. You're not allowed to observe. Ours came back whimpering and tried to run for the door. The contract has a lengthy clause (in a lengthy document) limiting their liability in case they kill your dog. Not kidding. Not a positive environment where I'd be comfortable leaving my pet. read more

I take my Yorkie once a week. I love seeing them on the web cam. He is always happy to go which tells me he's treated well. He let's me know when he doesn't want something. We've been using Klub K9 for boarding and day care for over 5 years and have had a great experience every time! I've moved to San Mateo now and still make the drive to Sunnyvale when I need to board my dogs because I've had such a good experience with klub k9 and Charles and Billy are great. Both my dogs like being around other dogs and one has separation anxiety so we love the cage free boarding klub k9 offers. They temperament test the dogs before accepting them for boarding and separate the play rooms based on size. They even have a video camera live stream where you can check on your pup. (Not very good quality, but it's useful to quickly check to see how they're doing) My dogs Simba and Rosa always come back tired but happy. read more

This guy puts my 6 month puppy in an alpha roll right in front of me for Normal puppy play. Yes, an alpha roll. In 2019. I've been taking my well socialized puppy to playgroups nearly every single day and have never experienced a trainer in this modern age even thinking that is a good idea. The next day my puppy, who is not afraid of anything except baths, has fear issues and is hiding in his crate as we speak. This guy who runs this daycare/playgroup does not know what he's doing. I wish there was a way to give no stars. I'm sad to write this review because we've enjoyed taking our two dogs to Klub K9 since May. We were shocked to find our dog, Brownie, terribly emaciated after boarding him for two weeks. I'm adding before and after pictures of Brownie. While I don't question Mike's love and dedication to the dogs, his customer service skills are non existent. Brownie is so thin now that his vertebrae and hip bones jut out. I think when a dog loses this much weight, a phone call is warranted. We even called to check up on our dogs. They said all was fine! How Mike cannot bring himself to apologize or help us understand what happened, I don't know. Instead, our follow up call of concern was met with severe hostility and insult. I know there are good reviews on Yelp. But before you leave your dogs here, please read the negative reviews too. It's so upsetting when the owner of a a business you entrust to take care of your pets shows his true colors...and they're not at all pretty. read more

I had the worst experience here today and I had been bringing my dog here for grooming for two years. Today, I carried my dog in and put her down in front of the door so that Mike, the owner could take her in. He says to me condescendingly, "Around here, puppies walk." I let that one go. Fine, i treat my dog like a baby. As i was leaving, i hear someone call out, "Don't forget your leash." I didn't pay any attention because i had always, ALWAYS left the leash with them. I got back into my car ready to leave when Mike knocks on my window and hands me the leash. He says, "You forgot the leash." I explained dumbfounded that i had been here a million times and always left the leash. Next, he says crassly, "We have rules around here, Ma'am. You don't leave your leash." As i was driving away, i got really mad. I mean, what the hell kind of way is that to treat your loyal customers? I went back inside and told Mike that i didn't appreciate the way he spoke to me and obviously he doesn't appreciate my business. He said, "I do. But around here, we have RULES." MIke, is the most unapologetically rude and condescending individual i have ever met. I was so angry he almost made me cry. I will never take my dog here again. Prices on supplies are pretty good on a lot of items. Not so good on others. I went in to check this place out-- got ignored by staff. That's fine, I didn't need any help but you'd think most businesses at least acknowledge people. I walked outside to the parking lot, to look around. This place is in the back lot for some other places--looks like an industrial plumbing shop and some other light industrial/manufacturing shops. I was standing well away from the wooden fence beyond the parking stalls and near what looks like fire risers--I'd say about 30' from the fence. One of their employees pops up over the 7' tall or so fence and says I'm too close to the fence and I'm making the dogs upset. I said I'm nowhere near the fence and the girl says "oh really guy?" in a sarcastic voice. Lousy attitude. But reading the other comments about the owner, it's no longer a surprise. read more

Recently left my dog Howl here for 1 month of boarding. I'm happy with the service and email response time. You have to book a temperament evaluation in advance to make sure you dog can be boarded so make sure to book ahead of time. My dog was evaluated alongside one submissive dog and one that was a bit more dominant. He was fine with both and after passing the eval, I was given a packet stating their policies and whatnot. It's all common sense. Make sure you know the drop off and pickup times in advance. Don't make a ruckus when dropping off or picking up your dog or try to peep in the windows since this can start dog fights. Dropping off Howl was very easy-only took a few minutes to hand over his food bags (label with name and how much food to give) and that's it. I loved being able to check in on him via the webcams during my travels. It was so reassuring to see him romping around with other dogs and often seeing someone walking around with the pack or cleaning the room. And they are constantly cleaning (vacuuming and mopping it seems). My dog came home not exactly clean but not extremely grubby either, which is amazing since he was there for a month. He did not come home with any fleas or GI issues. I'm sure the facilities are kept immaculate since it seems the packs can be quite large. I also love that the temperament evaluation is mandatory since I want to be sure that the other dogs my dog is playing with will be non-reactive with him (play fighting is okay and healthy behavior). During my trip I thought Howl looked a bit skinny from all of his play time since at home he gets his exercise through walks and dog park trips on the weekends but is otherwise a lazy bug. I emailed Klub K9 requesting to increase his food portions from 1C twice a day to 1 1/2 C twice and they immediately emailed me back that they changed his food servings. He came home with his regular weight so I'd advise people boarding their dog that it may be a good idea to give your normally sedentary dog just a bit more food if you're worried about them losing weight from running around. All in all a great option for long term boarding. Rest assured there is 24 hour supervision. read more

We boarded our gentle and social 9 year old lab there a few times but will not go back. The first time the owner said our dog ate his dinner. Well, that was pretty shocking as most of us with labs know to not leave food unattended and accessible to them. Then on another stay the owner was very argumentative when we tried to discuss the bruise on our dogs nose. He could't give a clear explanation of what happened and got very defensive when questioned. We do not want to go to a place where our dog is injured and the owner can not even have a reasonable discussion about it. I would avoid this place. read more

WE LOVE KLUB K9!!!! We were recommended by a close friend to bring our pup Bentley there for daycare and he absolutely loves it. We are happy dog parents bringing him here because the owner and his team genuinely care about the health and safety of our dogs and treat them like their own. They're super knowledgeable and really take the time to be with your dogs and constantly check to make sure they're okay(they also have handlers that constantly look over the dogs in each play area) ! They are very strict about the rules here. It can be quite challenging in that regard, especially with the pickup and drop off times for the dogs. However, that being said, the reason they do that is to make sure the dogs are not disturbed while they socialize each other and to give them a routine, all things which are very necessary for the well being of some dogs, especially mine. The only other daycare I've taken my pup to is Spots in Santa Clara, which is the polar opposite of this place - you can drop off and pick up 24 hours a day, without prior reservation or warning. While that is extremely convenient for me, I really see a difference in my dog's behavior now that he 's going to Klub K9. He and his roommate dog (my roommate's dog) are both very happy and eager to go to day care and I believe when they come back they are more well adjusted. Mine in particular has always been friendly with other dogs, but shy (the run away shy kind, not the aggressive shy kind). After taking him to KK9, puppy is more confident around other dogs and is not upset about leaving me to go to daycare. I love the webcams too - it's great being able to spy on my buddy while he's hanging out with his crew. My roommate and I had been considering asking Mike to come in for some lifestyle balancing training with our dogs, and Mike was understanding and accommodating about us taking a while to make the decision. This is a great, locally owned place to leave your dog when you're on vacation, etc. They don't waste anyone's time with the useless, pricey options found at the national pet stores (e.g. PetCo, Petsmart). They also offer reasonably priced medicines that you can administer yourself! read more

My dog got Giardia! I had taken my dog Benson here a couple of times. At first I loved it; great availability (even during holidays) and nice staff. However, the last time he stayed here (Christmas 2019) he got Giardia (an intestinal parasite) from another dog there. I am not surprised actually... because when I would watch the webcams, I noticed that dogs would poop and pee in the room and then it would be a while until someone would clean it up. Plus I read on other reviews that they use the same dirty water to mop? Not sure if that is true but regardless, my dog got sick and I had to pay extra to treat him. My dog has stayed here twice and both time he comes home, he has extreme diarrhea. Both times I've taken him to the vet and the diagnosis is a bacterial infection. I've watched the cameras here. When a dog poops, the staff takes their time to clean it. And when they do, they use the same mop and water from the previous cleaning. These dogs just sit in a dirty toilet all day. My dog will not be going back there. read more
