This hotel is in a great location, close to everything and the tram stop to take you to the ferry to Estonia. It's also about a 10-15 minute walk to get to the Ferry to Suomenlinna. It also seemed to be the preferred hotel for business travelers as there were a lot of them in the dining area in the morning. There is a nice Italian restaurant on the ground floor that seemed to be busy nightly and a Michelin Star restaurant next door (Boulevard Social, I highly recommend it) We stayed in the Envy King and was perfect for my husband and I and our 4 year old. They provided a twin sized cot for him to sleep next to us. I loved the large windows, you can sit in them and daydream about the hustle and bustle of city life on the other side of the glass pane. The staff is warm and friendly, they made wonderful recommendations of how to get around town and things to do! Our room overlooked the street and down towards the park, I could even see Louis Vuitton and it was beautiful watching the snow fall and people watch. The hotel is in proximity to a convenient store, so we were able to get some snacks for midnight munching for our little guy. The refrigerator was quite small so it was difficult to put more than a handful of things in it. The only minor complaint I would have was that the tram is very loud at night, so I found myself waking up a couple of nights, that says a lot since I live in a big city! The water pressure in the showers were wonderful, definitely a great retreat from walking all around the city. While the bathroom was a bit small, it served us well. The breakfast was out of this world, the presentation was superb and the offerings were all sourced locally, indicated on their label- which I loved. The buffet ranged from pickled herring, smoked salmon to boil and scrambled eggs, Finnish sausage, bacon, porridge, freshly squeezed fruit juices along with tea, coffee and pastries. I had to stop myself from gracing on everything! It was certainly a wonderful start to our day! I would definitely recommend staying here if you are ever visiting Helsinki!

This is a wonderful hotel, right in the heart of Helsinki. Each room has a different theme, based on the Finnish folk lore KALEVALA. Also, each room has been designed by a different designer. How's that for attention to detail. The room prices are very decent for the high quality of the hotel. There's cute little design elements all over this beautiful hotel. Tom of Finland makes an appearance right near the check in ;) There's a Italian restaurant attached to the hotel but since you are smack in the middle of Helsinki, you are a walking distance to everything! Excellent stay and will be returning here for sure!

Loft room...let there be Light!

I've started to explore different hotel in Helsinki and took on a recommendation to stay at the Klaus K, a a design hotel, an affiliation of the Starwood brand, and a sister hotel to the sublime Kamp. Although a 4 star hotel, it is by no meant comparable to the Kamp when it comes to services and luxury. However, it has some pluses that I will return to this gem. 1. Rooms are modern, efficient and hip. As a lifetime SPG Platinum, I was upgraded to a Loft room which is a large studio with skylights that are cherished for the Finnish winter. The loft room also gives you a very discreet private entrance at the street level, which you by pass the lobby. This is a very nice thought. 2. Price. Very reasonable and the location makes this place ideal. My stay was about 150 euros/night. 3. Common area. Lots of common area. The loft gives you access to the roof lounge, similar to an executive lounge but only coffee/tee as amenities. The roof lounge also has a terrace overlooking the city. 4. Breakfast. Simple but high quality ingredient. The best part is the wonderful homemade bread. I'm a bread snob and the bread here rivals some of the best bakery in Paris!

... (y)our design hotel ... Klaus K is a family-run design hotel centrally located close to Helsinki`s Esplanadi. It was just a 15-minute-walk from the ferry harbour - just perfect if you should arrive from Tallinn by ferry like me. All front staff members were very friendly and all of my 1,000 little questions got answered to my satisfaction. A notebook is available for surfing the Net free of charge ... what a blessing since Internet cafés have almost become extinct in Finland. My Mystical Room was very small, but I enjoyed the design, the comfy queen-sized bed and the master switch to turn off all the lights with one click. Just the pillows were of surprisingly low quality and had already started to get partly lumpy. The even smaller bathroom offered big bottles by MALIN+GOETZ, a brand that is still quite unknown in Germany though I do not know why ... rum body wash ... vitamin b5 body moisturizer ... peppermint shampoo ... cilantro hair conditioner ... such marvelous products ... had to get me my own bottle of rum body wash upon check-out to continue my wonderful Finland trip at home ;o)! Every morning, guests can choose between an Italian and a Scandinavian breakfast buffet. You should go for the latter one, because Italy cannot live up to these super tasty whole-grain loafs of bread or buns, these cereals or jams with boysenberry, sea buckthorn or cloudberry. Never ever! I could have eaten for hours ;oD! Klaus, we will meet again one day, but there should be at least one bottle with complimentary water in my room for the price you charge, please!

First the good: The staff are wonderful. They are helpful and quick to get things done. The beds are comfortable. Onto the rest.... Don't stay in room 306. It's dark, like a bunker. Turn on all the lights and open the windows the size of your nightstand, it doesn't matter. It's clear this room is all about style and not functionality. Despite being a room on the third floor, it feels like a basement bedroom. Test everything before the bellhop leaves, because learning that your bathroom light doesn't work or waking up to discover your phone didn't charge overnight is annoying, but even more so once you're unpacked and can't easily change rooms. The maintenance staff should be doing preemptive checks of rooms, not waiting for complaints. I was looking forward to the breakfast buffet, because the desk staff raved about it when we checked in. Hands down, the most lackluster buffet I've seen outside of a Holiday Inn Express. The butter is fantastic. That's the best thing I can say about the limited options. This hotel is what I refer to as "all sizzle and no steak". It's pretty and artful, but it lacks the ability to get anything done. I misplaced my gloves and couldn't find them for twenty minutes, because the room is so dark. I'm glad I'm here on holiday for one night and not here for work for a week. I'd go crazy trying to work out of this room. Edited to add: Ugh. The maintenance and cleaning crews really need to get in gear. This is the fan in the bathroom:

Ok place, very friendly helpful staff. Great breakfast. After 4 pm, we had to go downstairs to ask them to clean the room. Small rooms!

Such a cute small place which a is accessible from the outside, they have a wonderful assortment of sweet and savory mouth watering items, drinks are coffee, teas, wine and beer. Of course midday I was thinking bubbles ! It took me a hot second to decide from the choices what to eat, so I went with the orange and raisin scone and my glass of bubbly. Also had some toast as it looked so good freshly cut. They have a nice seating area next to the cafe inside or several tables and chairs outside, and as nice as it was outside I went out. Loved the carbs here! The scone was crumbly and zesty, studded with raisins. Washed down well with my glass of bubbly, coffee would be great too! The toast was thick and chewy and so good, not processed tasting at all, freshly baked with good ingredients. Sat outside with lots of birds eager for me to drop something, but I ate every crumb. So delicious. Great place to get a snack anytime. Trust me the choices will leave to wanting to go back.

I arrived earlier than the standard check-in time and and was accommodated with my Marriott Gold Status. After completing some documentation I was provided my keycard and was given a guided tour to my room. The room was in nice condition and had a work desk which I needed. I turned on the thermostat as it was warm upon arrival. I attempted to set my room temperature to 18C but it would only allow me to set at 19C minimum. I went out to see the town for a few hours and came back and the room was still quite warm. I notified the staff and the offered to move me to a cooler room which I accepted. The second room was nice as well but was much cooler. The hotel is conveniently located in the Helsinki City Center and many destinations are walkable. This hotel has two places to eat, a bakery and a breakfast restaurant (buffet-style). I didn't attempt to eat here outside of breakfast as several restaurants are also located within walking distance. I can't say enough how polite and pleasant the staff is here. Four stars!

Check-in was quick and seamless. They asked if I wanted to have the room cleaned daily-nice so you don't have to deal with hanging signs on the door. I got my request for a room on the top floor-yes! My King room had a partial city view and was facing an office building. Room came with a Safe (with a built in Outlet for devices -which I haven't seen), mini fridge and iron. Woodwork for the Headboard and on the ceiling made for a different and unique look. Outlets were plenty with USB ports. Breakfast was available for 14 Euros and they have a restaurant (Bistro Vilholn) attached. Had dinner one of the evenings and would recommend. Sauna (separated for M/F) was a good size although the Gym was a small one. There is the option to go to a much larger Fitness Center close by. Taxis arrived minutes after being called. I saw a Piano in the back seating area and lounge. Would highly recommend for Staff that provided exceptional service, location, restaurant and amenities.

The reason for the high praise is because the breakfast is by far the number 1 I've seen here. Just massive spread of anything you could want. Fresh juice right when you walk in. Was honestly blown away comparing it to the other hotels in the city that I thought were already quite good. The staff is friendly and it's in a great location. Would definitely recommend here or the Radisson Red close by, which has much more updated rooms, but not as nice of a breakfast.

Due to Covid, we postponed it to 2021 and we were able to work with Marski to move our dates. Fast forward to this summer. We, once again, had to cancel our family trip once due to our Finnish family members not being fully vaccinated in time for our arrival and continued worry about the evolving nature of the Delta variant. We feel as though this year is not a responsible time to be traveling from NYC to Helsinki. Marski only gave us the option to rebook until the end of 2021, but we are rebooking our trip for 2022, and they will not allow us to move our reservations to next year. After trying to work directly with the Marski location to reschedule our reservations to 2022, I tried to contact corporate customer service. I spent ~25 minutes on hold with Scandic's corporate customer service, talked with someone in Finland for a minute before getting disconnected. I was charged $58 for this international call. I filled out a form on the Scandic website a week ago - no reply. All of the other hotels we had reservations with for Finland for our 2020 trip have either refunded us completely or gave us a voucher to use in 2022. I feel bad that I spoke so highly of Scandic hotels (previously had a great stay at the Copenhagen location) and pushed my family to make reservations here.
