The ham that was aged longer was easier to chew with less resistance. We decided to purchase the highest quality aged 5 years, which was less salty, but robust in meaty flavor. It was absolutely delicious with rustic French bread from the bakery close to our hotel. If you're sightseeing near Casa Batllo, it's only a 3-5 minute walk around the corner! We're not iberico ham connoisseurs and I'm not sure whether or not we could tell the difference between high end or mid range iberico ham. They're all very good! We probably could have gotten some less pricey ones from the markets and would have been just as satisfied. But nonetheless, it was nice to buy something luxurious to enjoy while in Spain.

You know everything in there is fresh; the fruit is fresh, the fish is fresh, the vegetables are diverse and look just picked, and the cheese is amazing. The charcuterie is like a fantasy! This market even has plants for sale as well as flowers and a few additional outlying products. When you walk up to a stall, it's not guaranteed that you're going to get a smile or a happy, "How are you?" But it is guaranteed that you will get good service. Selling the product is the name of the game here. I fully believe that if you are ever in barcelona and you come by this market you should absolutely stop in and see what it's all about. Unlike Boqueria, there aren't that many vendors selling cooked foods/tapas/snacks. Instead, it seemed more like a place where locals did their food shopping. We picked up some strawberries, so this is a good spot to pick up some fresh fruit. There's also a supermarket downstairs. They sell flowers and plants out front, and while I definitely didn't need any flowers, it was still nice to just look at them. If you're staying nearby and want to experience some local vibes, you should check it out. Otherwise, it's probably not worth going out of your way for if you're not looking to buy groceries. I was very dissatisfied and will never support this man's business after me and my wife went in to support him and he could not have been more rude about the fact that "no we only sell local meat here" , I would say he is aggressive and racist and should not run any business (especially with sharp knifes involved) .. My wife and I could not get away quickly enough out of the shop and we both agreed never to return there again. It really is a shame in a small community where we all just want to live in peace with each other to see this level of racism and discrimination from a business owner!

Vila de Gracia is a foodie heaven as there are countless meat, vegetable, and seafood stores all around the neighborhood. There are at least 10 meat shops within a block of our house and they are all pretty good but I've decided that Gasch is top of my list. Every cut of beef is available. They will hand slice anything you want in anyway that you need, in any quantity.. They will cut off the fat, leave the fat, season the meat, or even skewer the meat. I once asked for oxtail and they brought out 2 whole ones from the back fridge. I chose one and they chopped it up - yes, it's that fresh! And the meat is very flavorful. They specialize in Galician beef which some will argue is the best beef in the world. Service is great and the women butchers are efficient but very friendly. Prices are competitive for the neighborhood, but way cheaper than the tasteless beef in the US. Make sure you check the hours as they are only open half days on Saturday and Monday, closed on Sundays, and are always closed for daily siestas.
