The parking lot includes a pair of basketball hoops as well. LED lighting along the path leading to the stadium and aesthetic landscaping throughout. The artificial turf in the stadium includes synthetic "dirt" and "sand". The stadium also includes a patio on the upper level with a dozen or so umbrella tables. Restrooms include changing stations and plenty of stalls. Overall, a great location for multiple sports.

However, the stadium is quaint, new, and clean. The absolute best part for me was the shaded seating and ceiling fans. For those sun enthusiasts, there is a tiny section left unshaded. They have a big screen that introduces all the home players, AstroTurf grass, wooden bats, and the stadium is well lit when the sun goes down. The mascot Sal the Salamander is a delight; great with the kids and fun to watch. Concessions are adequate for the size of the clientele and they offer the basics of hot dogs, beer, ice cream, and more. The parking was convenient. The lot was large and a short distance from the stadium. If you are in the mood for smaller crowds and a hometown baseball feel, north main athletic complex is a fantastic choice.

There is also a sand-surfaced playground with a swing set. Loads of parking, good signage. I stayed here for a bit to watch the volleyball league. It looked like good fun! I stopped by this park yesterday afternoon to wear out my kids on the playground. I was stunned…read morethat the playground was completely empty and all to us! The playground equipment was all brand new and the area was mostly enclosed with a fence. Within this space, the play equipment is appropriate for kids 5 to 12 years old. The floor of the play area is rubberized for safety. There's a super tall slide that you have to climb up via webbed ropes (so not very easy for smaller kids unless they are avid climbers). The slide is not for super tall people. It has sharp turns inside it that cause you to knock against the sides as you go down (I know from experience). It also caused my 4.5-year-old daughter to lose one of her shoes two times she slid down. There's a giant spider-web-like climbing area for kids to play on, as well. There are a couple of benches for parents to sit on as they watch their kids. There is a smaller area off to the side for kids 2 to 5 years old that has sand, multiple spring riders (an animal, an airplane, and a car), a small Yogi-Bear see-saw, and a small slide with steps (though the steps are a bit steep). It's disappointing that this area is not fenced in - especially since it's for younger kids who tend to wander. Luckily, there's a bathroom facility building across from the playground and next to the tennis courts. There are two stalls inside the ladys' room, one sink, and a heated blow dryer. Outside the bathroom, there's a handy water-bottle-filling station. There's also a dog run area (next to the parking area that you enter from on Wade Avenue) with benches, trash cans, and a dog waste station. If you want to host a party or picnic, there's a picnic shelter you can rent for $12 an hour (it has 6 tables and can host anywhere from 36 to 60 people). There are 2 tennis courts that have push-button lighting that works from dusk to 10 pm year-round. If you like Sand Volleyball, there are 6 lighted volleyball courts to choose from (they are first-come, first-served). On Tuesday and Thursday nights during league play, courts 1-4 are unavailable from 6 to 11 pm. There are 2 softball fields and a youth baseball field. I highly recommend this park if you have kids!

The Community Center is very well kept and modern. It also features a Teen Zone for teens 13-17. They have activity rooms, a video game room, gym and indoor basketball court. We attended the Teen Hang Out event Friday night and the staff was excellent. Everyone was very welcoming and engaged very well with the teens. My daughter enjoys basketball so she spent a lot of time in the gym doing a small tournament and in the video game room. I appreciate how Raleigh Parks Dept invests in their parks and rec centers. I just wish they had Teen Zones in NorthWest Raleigh. We have to drive 25 minutes in traffic to visit teen zones like Saint Monica, Green Road and Tarboro. It would be fair if Brier Creek or Millbrook had a Teen Zone. Teenagers need a safe space where they can gather and feel supported and appreciated.

Both teams had uniforms, there were a lot of fans, some folks had cookout stuff and folding chairs. It looked quite exciting! Other than that ball game going on, the park has a large picnic shelter located next to the volleyball and tennis courts. There is a concrete-surface basketball court, four lighted tennis courts and two lighted sand volleyball courts. There are two baseball fields (the larger one is 350 feet to the fence!) and a woodchip-surface playground for ages 5 to 12. I would guess that normally there is enough parking here, but with the event going on, just about every space was filled and so were some "creative" spaces. [Review 11655 overall, 1437 of 2019.]
