My son has taken his cat to Kitty Klinic for years and loves them. They were great to interact with, fun, and relaxing. When I moved up to the cities I knew my cat would go to the same place. My cat has a 50-50 chance of being okay with a vet. His first ever vet he had no problems with. We moved and my cat HATED the new vet. I had to be in the room with him to be examined. That vet sold his practice and a new one moved in. So, same building, same staff, same furniture. My cat was absolutely fine with the new vet. I expected that this would be a great clinic for my baby. That assumption was wrong. The staff fawned over my son's cat. She's pretty. Lots of compliments for both her and my son. My cat they wouldn't even take out of the carrier. They told me he had been sedated for the last vet and that they would require that for my boy. The last time my cat saw his vet he had a teeth cleaning so yes, he had gabapentin ahead of time. This has all left me feeling offended for my cat. The geriatric blood panel for my son's cat was nearly $400. It'll take a week for them to get the results back. Then we have to call in and get the results. Which sucks if phone calls are hard on you. read more

We went to KK for the first time and we absolutely will not be going back and will recommend others avoid this place at all costs We felt the staff there was inexperienced, unprofessional, disrespectful of our time, significantly more expensive and overall a very poor representation of vets and vet techs everywhere. Below i've detailed why we felt this way 1) the doctor arrived with a coffee in hand 15-20 minutes late for our nail trimming appointment which we felt was very disrespectful of our time. We've had other nail trims and were in and out in 15-20 mins with no problems. 2) after getting our cats medical records, and having to discuss them in a lengthy phone call conversation, we had to go through literally the exact same information twice which was beyond ridiculous because why did they ask for the past records days in advance if they can't even read them before our appointment. We felt like this was stalling because they knew the doctor wouldn't be back in time. This was annoying, unprofessional and made us doubt their experience. 3) they asked us to come back with the cats to calm them down which was the first time that's every happened for us and we felt like it indicated their lack of professional skills. We've never had to calm down our cats for a nail trim or vet visit ourself. Literally had no issues in the past. 4) one of our cats is a bit shy, and nervous in new spots. We told them in the past nail trimmings occasionally he's needed a mild sedative. Due to how they grabbed him he freaked out and dashed over the room. Then they hastily practically RAN out the room and we were the ones responsible for calming him down and putting him back in the carrier. Again we felt like was extremely unprofessional and showed their limited expertise. 5) they don't list prices online but it was $59 for 2 cats and they werent even able to trim the nails of our last cat. Multiple other places we've been have trimmed all 3 cats for roughly $40 total. $60 for all 3 would not be crazy expensive, but $30 each cat was wild for us. 6) they also had a random roaming cat that we believe escaped from the room it was in and was being followed by the staff there. Watching all the stuff that happened literally felt like we were in a prank show but unfortunately I didn't see Murr, Sal, Joe or Q pop up at the end. Although the staff did their best to be friendly and understanding with the situation, we felt that it could never outweigh the negative experiences so all in all we'll be choosing other vets. We wish them the best and hope this review may give them a chance to reflect on some things they can improve to better help the pets and pet owners they serve. Their hearts were absolutely in the right place, but there's definitely some things they really need to work on. Wishing them well read more

Our 8 year old dearly loved cat was not well today. My husband phoned Kitty Klinic, where we used to go for years, and my uncle before that. We got a phone message back at 10:30 tonight from Dr. McMenomee refusing to take our cat's case, no reason given, telling us we would have to go elsewhere. read more

I brought our kittens there for ear mites. I called him a week later and the Dr told us it could take about a month...he told us a few days at the appointment. I called him again 3 weeks later and he just said,"We'll do it again (for a coat I'm sure) when you bring them in to get their second round of shots." No way I'm going back there. All the Dr does is joke around like we're 5 years old. Cats still have mites and scratching constantly. Time to look for a real vet. He couldn't take care of the simplest thing! read more

It's only taken me 24 years to post a review of my favorite veterinary clinic. This is the only clinic we've visited and for good reason. Once you've found the best, the search is over. Kitty Klinic was recommend to me by a co-worker w-a-y back in 1993 and we're still taking our feline pals there today. Dr. Mike, Nancy and Jan are the best cat caregivers, hands down. They're always professional and friendly no matter if the visit is a routine checkup or a (rare) frightening health scare event. They keep the costs low and the time spent in the office to a minimum. The location is easy for us, too (you know you don't want a cat in the car longer than necessary). We're very grateful for all the years of great service! read more

They do a great job here. I've had 2 cats come here, my first cat Sweetie and now my second cat, Ham Sandwich. Recently Hammy developed urine crystals, and I was freaking out because she was bleeding around the house. Immediately I took her in, even though Dr. mcnemany wasn't available and I had to see the relief veterinarian. My cat received the same excellent care as usual. They gave me some prescription food samples for her to try. And to my relief, the total visit bill was less than $100, including the prescription for her painkiller which I got from target. My little companion is all back to normal within a week of seeing the vet, and that is pretty unheard of from what I've read in these situations- normally it takes 2 weeks to 5 months to heal. The only-- ONLY-- downside about this place is yes, one of the front desk ladies is a little rude. But honestly, so what? I can be rude too, sometimes. I just talk to her politely and treat her with kindness because I'm not there for her, I'm there for my cat. read more

I adopted my cat from Pet smart a few months ago and brought him in for a checkup because I noticed some respiratory issues and he was having diarrhea. KK was able to help his respiratory issues but not so much for his diarrhea. Came back in and paid $500 for a geriatric panel to find out what is going on. My cat also had a lump that he referred to a dermatologist that may be cancerous, but I didn't understand why nothing could be done in house to investigate the lump. Called 3 times over 2.5 weeks to try to the results and when I finally got them they said it was all "negative" and they wanted to try a new medicine. I had no idea what was tested for on the panel and what "negative" actually meant. At this point I wanted to try someone different because I had no idea what the medicine was trying to achieve. Go to a new vet find out my cat has a heart murmur and that the blood panel done at KK came back with levels of hyperthyroid and kidney disease that was NEVER disclosed to me but was in his medical records. I was shocked that the medical records stated this but I was completely unaware. Luckily now my cat is on medication for the hyperthyroidism and was able to get a X-ray that day for the heart/tumor and is being followed up with for the tumor all in house. Disappointed that the blood panel revealed so many clues but that the information was not given to me. read more

My cat ate balloon string and I called Kitty Klinic because I was super worried, my cat had the string hanging out of her and wouldn't it pass it. They told me to not worry and to monitor her. The woman on the phone suggested I feed her canned chicken. My kitty ate it and hours later she passed the string and is back to her normal playful self. Thank you Kitty Klinic for the help! read more

I moved out of the neighborhood so we sadly had to move to a new vet. Kitty Klinic was super prompt and helpful with getting my cat Baby's records pulled and transferred. I love that this place has funky decor and is kind of old school. The vet and reception folks were all SUPER nice and helpful every time I've contacted them and when I went in and my cat was pretty chill about going there. I really enjoyed being a client and if I hadn't moved we would still be going in! Highly recommend!! read more

I had a terrible experience at this veterinary clinic. My 10-year old cat had become very lethargic, and was not eating or drinking. I brought her in to see if there was anything that could be done for her, and as soon as she came out of her carrier in the exam room I was told, "Oh, she's gonna die." While I knew she was seriously ill, I was appalled by the lack of "bedside manner" presented by the veterinarian. He recommended bringing her to the U of M to have her lungs drained. I was told it would be very expensive, and I knew I could not afford to do this since I had just lost my job. I explained I could not afford it and was informed, "Well, she's gonna die then." A few days later I had my poor girl euthanized at the Animal Humane Society, as I could not let her suffer any further. However, I will NEVER return to the Kitty Klinic. I felt the lack of compassion displayed toward my cat and I was appalling. read more

I brought my eight week old kitten in for an upper respiratory infection and he had to have blood drawn and a shot, and Dr. Mike was so great, very informative and empathetic and so sweet to me and my kitten! This is BY FAR the best veterinary experience I've ever had. The assistant in the lobby was super friendly and helpful as well. Couldn't recommend enough for sensitive cat parents :) read more

Although my experience here was sad, they were great with me and my cat. My cat had been continuously sick for a few months, and my local vet wasn't able to treat him. He stopped eating and I was worried he was going to die! I brought him here due to their great reviews, and they immediately recognized that he was FIV+. They ran blood tests and confirmed it. They then referred me to another vet nearby that would be able to specialize in his chronic stomatitis caused by his immunosuppression. I cried terribly on the phone when I received the diagnosis, and the vet (I wished I remembered his name!) was so wonderful. He was very supportive and was very understanding. Only reason I didn't give them 5 stars was because I had to be referred, but I respect their honesty of sending me somewhere they could trust. Recommend! read more

Yesterday in the mail I received a sweet, modest and personalized memorial as a gift from the doctors and staff of The Kitty Klinic. My 1st and only pet, Hoover was seen there from his first visit at 8 wks old in 1997 until it was necessary to end his misery and suffering in May this year. From the helpful advice and quirky demeanor of Dr. McNemonie, right up to the final minutes of my dear feline friends's time with me I was treated with respect and the utmost professionalism by everyone at this facility. I am grateful and highly recommend them to any cat owners. Todd Miller, Mpls. MN read more

I started bringing my cat Ragnar to the kitty Klinic about one year ago and every interaction and experience has been positive. On a Saturday afternoon I noticed an abscess on his skin and there were no more available appointments for the day. The vet kindly offered to stay late so I wouldn't have to bring him to an emergency room. They really care about animals, are a low cost clinic and deliver exceptional service. I recommend them to friends and family and am a strong supporter of their business read more

Very happy. Great treatment of the cats, thorough exam, conscientious, gentle. Of particular note was the Doctors rapport and respect for the two small boys, 2 and 5, who came along hoping to peek into the doctors exam room. The Kitty Klinic made the boys feel welcome, pulled up a chair to let them watch safely, and explained every step of the cat exam to our two small cat lovers. He finished up by letting them listen to the cat's heart beat, and giving each boy a sticker. Showing the boys that cats get exams just like they do, ensures that the boys learn empathy and stewardship with and for our pets in the best possible way. An absolutely invaluable service. Thank you, Kitty Klinic! read more

Prices at the Kitty Klinic are much lower than at VCA type slick and clean Vets. This dingy, cramped little building has been around since the 70's and not dollar one has gone into improving it. If this matters to you, look elsewhere for your feline care. It doesn't matter to me; what does is kind and caring Veterinarians. You'll find them at Kitty Klinic. The two Vets we have seen are very gentle, knowledgeable and caring. Always a bit behind schedule and in a rush, but willing to consult via phone if needed. I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could, but more four than three. read more

We just had our first visit to the Kitty Klinic. We will be going back. =^..^= I love that it's NOT a bright, trendy, upscale looking facility. It's very REAL. It's truly a neighborhood vet. There is no impression of superficiality. I get such good vibes from Dr B I can't even really articulate it well. Her tone was so positive and so firm when she said it wasn't even _close_ to the last car ride...i got all kinds of choked up. Hell, i'm a little misty-eyed remembering it. Her bedside manner is just as good with her direct patient-a 20 year old domestic shorthair. Her handling of my antique kitty was the definition of gentle but firm. Her clinical knowledge was obvious. I feel confident in her diagnosis and the direction we're going. Long story short: a true neighborhood vet clinic, staffed by real humans. Update one month on: Still love them. Dr M must be up half the night returning calls. Weekends too. read more

Not so certain about Kitty Klinic anymore. When I first started going, it was great, but I had a bad experience with my last cat. She was seriously ill and Dr B was trying a treatment, but after a few weeks, Dr Mike took me to task for bringing her back to KK when "she should be taken to the U of M". I did and was quickly told that a) Dr B's treatment would never have worked and b) there was nothing to be done. I had put her through three weeks of hell when I should have let her go gracefully. I'm still having trouble forgiving myself. Between that and the constant pushing of "special food" only available from them, I'm afraid I'm not going back. read more

I have been to lots of clinics over the years and I think these people are very good at what they do. It looks ratty, but don't let that fool you......I had to put my 18 year old cat dowm and I was surrounded by all of the office staff plus the doctor. Where does that happen? It was potentially a very traumatic time, but they were so compassionate and kind. They gave me all the time I needed...I was sent cards from the staff the after that. These people live in the community and they care. They even took one of my kitten rescues because I was overwhelmed- and they found him a good home. Thanks Kitty Klinic. Special thanks to Dr. Mcmenomy. read more

I love that this place is cats only, because I have an incredibly nervous cat- he is scared enough coming to the vet, dogs at the vet are just that much worse. They were great about keeping my cat calm (at one point it took two vet techs in addition to the doctor!) and providing me with the care he needed. They're also very reasonably priced. It is clear they really care about the animals they treat. Thanks for being good to my baby! read more

The Docs very first attempt to get my cat out of its kennel was to open it and turn it upside-down. My cat was facing the door head first like most cats do so they can look out the door. Luckily B. (we'll call the at) grabbed on somehow and didn't fall out. I was instantly pissed! Being a Veteran of the Army for 10+ years my anger quickly triggered and it took all I had to hold back from hitting the old bastard. I know it sounds weird, a cat and an Army vet but, my fiancee (also Army) bought this cat and he really did grow on me. She's gone for 8 months for an Army school so I'm the cat herder for now. Anyway, after he tried to pour OUR cat on the table like a box of cereal, the three of them just man-handled my cat. This was my first visit to a vet and first cat so I wasn't sure what proper procedure was. It didn't look or feel right. Then he basically ignored anything I had to say afterwards and shoved me out the door. All this said, I do love my cat. He has grown on me and it was like watching a doctor mis-handle my child. I was angry and wanted to hit an old man. Will not be back. B was pissed. read more

Very kind and friendly people, but my bottom line is that they are not up to date with their treatments. Seems like they've been doing the same for years and aren't interested in the new. They are about medicating, medicating, medicating, prescription cat food, rather than taking a more holistic approach. read more

New to owning cats and very happy to finally have a reason to visit the Kitty Klinic in Uptown. No bows and whistles so they don't charge you an arm and a leg. Its what vets should be like now days. No one has much money anymore but we still want to care for our animals. read more

I am so glad I quit taking my 2 cats to this horrible place. The older receptionist lady always made me feel very unwelcome and I never once had my appointment start on time. The older male "doctor" was constantly late, hurried and I swear I smelled alcohol on his breath. (That, actually, was the final straw.) It's odd, because the Kitty Klinic came highly recommended- obviously they play favorites with their clients. Also, the staff never hesitated to immediately restrain and pin down my cats which caused them incredible trauma. My cats are extremely mellow and they acted like they were rabid, feral creatures. I now go to the Nokomis Clinic - what a HUGE difference! My first visit there, the Doctor let my cat have a few moments to acclimate to her surroundings and proceeded to give her a relaxed examination. Love that place. If you've had a good experience at the Kitty Klinic, I'm happy for you- but I did not. read more

I've never written a yelp review before because I've never had a situation where I feel like my review would be helpful to others. But before going to the Kitty Klinic I wish I would have been cautioned about how rude the front desk staff is. The vet himself was kind and helpful, but the front desk staff was extremely unprofessional. When I called to make an appointment, I mentioned that my cat was constipated and that I was treating it at home but wanted to schedule an appointment out in case it didn't relieve itself. The front desk assistant's tone changed to be very dramatic and accusatory. I explained that I was giving him pumpkin and milk, as recommended by my coworker who runs a cat rescue. She continued with the same tone in her follow up questions. I asked how much an enema would run so that I could financially prepare or shop around in case my cat needed one. She responded that she wouldn't know. I explained why I would like the price and she told me that there are costs that come with owning an animal, like I was unaware of that. Because the problem may have been a more serious urinary issue (which turned out to be the case), the vet called me back and I scheduled an earlier appointment. The vet was knowledgeable and that's what really matters, plus haven't we all worked with someone who is not very professional? So I kept the appointment and, like I mentioned, the vet himself and the appointment went great. The vet came in early to see me and my cat loved the vet tech working with him. I called back the next day, on the vet's request, to update him on my cat's condition. I left a message with another front desk staff member, who also adopted that same tone. I love my cats, this clinic is conveniently located for me, I like the premise and the vet himself was great. But I'm undecided on if I'll return because of those interactions. The drama they injected was too much and totally unnecessary. The vet and his tech were outstanding though, so I'm really conflicted. read more

My cat is like a child to me, so I spent a lot of time researching clinics in the area and asking friends for recommendations. I was told about this place, and I had a great experience. I had never brought my cat to the vet before, so we were both nervous. I brought him in after I noticed a bald spot in his coat while brushing him with a "furminator". The vet looked him over briefly and did not explain anything he was checking for, or what cream they rubbed on the bald spot or even what injection they gave him. The assistant holding my cat said he was "handsome even though he's mean." My poor cat is not mean, he was extremely nervous and being restrained. After all of ten minutes they sent us home with a needless flexible collar and a $100+ bill. Long story short, its possible to brush your cat bald with a furminator, and don't bring your cat to Kitty Klinic. read more

I took my 5 year old cat to this vet to establish care after moving to Minneapolis recently. This was the worst experience I have ever had with a vet. My cat is nervous at the vet, but my previous vet was great and let her get accustomed to the environment before examining her. When we went back to the examining room, the vet immediately started trying to pull my cat out of her carrier, and briefly asked if my cat was going to harm his assistant. I let him know that she was nervous and could bite, but they plowed ahead trying to dump her out of her carrier. She was traumatized and hissing, so the vet told me there was nothing he could do because she was too aggressive. He said the only way he would examine her is if I tranquilize her (which is something I am against and she has never needed). She has never had this reaction to a vet before. And honestly the vet seemed pretty checked out and uncaring. I expressed my dissatisfaction with the way they treated her, and he blamed me and my cat for her reaction and refused to take any responsibility. If you love your cat, do not take them to this horrible place. Worst vet experience ever. read more

We brought our cat in and he got fleas when he was there overnight. When I mentioned it they were adamant that it could not have happened there because they clean often and keep cages about 3 feet apart or so. They suggested he got it outdoors. When I said he was an indoor cat they said maybe a flea jumped on my shoe and I brought it in the house and it jumped on him, or that one got in through a window while he was sitting there! So we decided not to bring him back there. The people customer service has been awful. We only get the prescription cat food there (which is needed as we've tested). Still, I even have problems with that limited use! I went there to get some food and was waiting at the counter. The receptionist answered two other calls and did not even look at me while I was waiting. After about 5 minutes and when the phone rang again she answered it! I jumped in and said "technically I was second in line, and I'm only here for food". Finally another person heard and said she would help. So now I am looking online for other pet food options. I have never received good people customer care here. They should realize they should be nice to the cats AND the people. read more
