Kitty burns... It might be love at first site! The very first thing you notice is the beautiful design of this popular brunch spot. Not only is the design of the restaurant itself stylish but the surroundings are also beautiful. People pour into this place from all directions. Cyclists traveling down the bike path, joggers and walkers strolling along the rivers edge and others arriving by car and parking in the carpark below. This place is packed, they take your name and then show you to an outdoor area where you can wait. Nobody likes to wait, I certainly don't, but the cool thing about Kitty Burns is they sweeten the deal by setting up a coffee cart with a barista waiting to take your order and an assortment of pastries to snack on if you really can't wait. The waitress checks in on you regularly to let you know how much longer you will have to wait (it wasn't to log at all). The menu is definitely health focused, with no soft drink to be seen. Replaced with smoothies, juices and elixirs. Some items contradict this statement such as the aged bacon, the mac & cheese croquettes and the dazzling doughnuts at the front counter. However the general theme remains health focused. We ordered chili chorizo folded eggs, mac & cheese croquettes and the pork belly burger. Each item that flowed from the kitchen to our table looked like a piece of art and tasted the same way! It really was worth the hype. My only gripes about the experience was the wait staff kept changing so we didn't have a regular waiter, we did not receive the specials menu till after we ordered and we had to ask twice for table water. Kitty Burns is worth a visit and on the plus side you can visit IKEA on your way home! Day made!

After reading the urban list best places to eat which kitty burns was on I was eager to try this place. Came here today on such a beautiful day. We decided to sit inside as a gf and I had our daughters with us and thought the aircon would be better. We were greater with a happy smiley hello and put in the corner where we could spread out. Perfect Ordered the Danny zucco and cool as a cucumber juice which was recommended by the waiter. Both delish but I preferred the Danny zucco as it wasn't as sweet. Both of us ordered the kitty greens with chicken breast. This was so tasty. Loved the crunch from the veggies and the decent sprinkling of pistachio. The hummus underneath was much needed to add that little bit of extra flavour and the chicken just bulked up the meal a bit more. Would love to come back and try their sweet dishes. They all sound so amazing.

We had brunch here yesterday with a group of 4. It was pretty busy so we waiting around 15 minutes but no big deal as we grabbed a coffee from the takeaway cart outside while we waited. The menu is interesting and challenging so if you want standard breakfast fare I would head elsewhere. I had the breakfast omelette with rockling and hollandaise sauce throughout, it was a great dish and beautifully presented with edible flowers. My hubby and my other 2 friends all had the avocado on toast with edamame, bacon bits, a poached egg and lime. Feedback was mixed and I think my dish was probably the pick. We also shared the Mac n cheese croquette, just to try it, as expected it was amazing, what's not to like man m cheese Ina croquette. The coffee was awesome too and they do great fresh juices as well. All I all a great place, I'd come back to try a couple of the other dishes and it was a nice setting albeit a bit too cool and hipster...

Abbotsford is quickly becoming one of the newest members to Melbourne's arsenal of destination cafe suburbs. Its newest addition comes in the form of Kitty Burns. Hiding in the rear courtyard area of an apartment complex, this gem of a cafe is easily missed which at the same time adds an element of exclusivity with its existence being "need to know". The cafe is positioned in a courtyard amongst some other businesses and boasts river views from its outdoor seating. The interior follows the increasingly popular large open space style with a high ceiling that's bordering two storeys, floor to ceiling windows around the periphery and an array of hanging lights. A timber structure resembling a small house frame is built around the centred bar and counter area to give the illusion of a building inside a building. The walls are mostly lightly stained timber with the upper half styled like the outline of a series of peaked roof buildings. Synthetic grass creatively fills the gaps between the peaks up to the ceiling. Ferns, creepers and basket plants are scattered throughout the venue to add a bit of green. The food menu has a slight Japanese influence and as such is complex, but kept to the point with just over a dozen all day dining options. Highlights include the Kitty's Greens (charred broccoli, asparagus, baby gem, avocado, spinach, mizuna, shredded kale, house grain and roasted almonds), the Eton Mess (coconut yoghurt, strawberry textures, spiced meringue, activated buckwheat clusters, wild orange and goji berries) and the Meet Mr. Burns (dry cured bacon slab, spiced bon bons, bacon jam, clonakitty black pudding, 63/63 eggs, mushroom, spinach, my gentleman's relish and toast). This visit consisted of the torched kingfish with kimchi mayonnaise, leek ash, sea succulents, roast sesame dressing, edamame beans, Japanese rice and a 63/63 egg. This dish was absolute perfection; tender kingfish combined with the creamy yet exciting mayo brought the bulk of the flavours and the sesame and rice providing some welcomed texture. Staff advised that the dish was a touch on the smaller size and so a macaroni and cheese croquette was added in the side for something extra, an interesting concept that actually complimented the mostly creamy main dish quite well. Out of the ordinary, the drinks menu is larger than the food menu with no less than twelve smoothies and a range of herbal elixirs, juices and teas. Coffee is from All Press with espresso and cold brew options and Mork hot chocolate also makes an appearance. A brief moment of spontaneity lead to the "Schwarzenegger on Vay-Cay" smoothie being ordered. Containing banana, coconut water, pineapple, mango, raw fermented protein powder, dates, MCT oil and lucuma, it was nearly a whole meal on its own. Service was fantastic and even though this visit was during a peak Saturday lunch period, the food and drinks were served surprisingly quick. Kitty Burns brings something special to the growing Abbotsford neighbourhood and is definitely a must try.

Take away coffee cart while you wait for a table- nice touch.

This is where the beautiful people come to eat. All the wait staff must moonlight as models or actresses as they are all stunning and not a day over the geriatric age of 25. Came here on a weekend and it was very busy and had to wait 20 minutes for a table. They did have a coffee cart available though and a nice outdoor patio to sit and wait which was really nice, so it was a pleasant wait. The décor and styling in the place is very hip and cool- expect lots of Food coming out on wooden boards and stone slabs. The food itself was delicious although slightly odd and healthy- think mint and pea panna cotta for breakfast. They have lots of juices/ smoothies/ elixirs for the active wearing yummy mummy's and yuppies in the crowd. I ordered the pork brioche burger for brunch (I was hungry) and my fiend had the scrambled eggs. Both were delicious. Definitely try the Mac and cheese croquet which was a nice unhealthy touch to a pretty healthy sounding menu. When it come to pay the counter is also covered in amazing looking donuts and treats which make you regret eating so much brunch because you know you can't leave without buying one. Buy one. They are amazing. Overall very cool brunch spot with yummy if slightly too hipster food. Just don't come here looking like shit or hungover as your self esteem will definitely plummet being surrounded by so many beautiful people.

Yum! Kitty was great and i am glad my instagram lead me to find this place. The cafe space was large, roomy and not packed in. It had the option of indoor or outdoor dining. There were plenty of staff in fact compared to the no of customers it was a bit too many, however we were pretty early and i would say that they would be essential later in the morning. Presentation was great and everything was tasty they had some different menu items. My only negative was the staff were too quick to take away my partners plate when I hadn't finished my breakfast (i get that some people think that is efficient but I think i am old school when it comes to that). I would understand if it was exceptionally busy and they were trying to do it to clear tables quickly for the next person but that wasn't the case. That's my only gripe but it won't stop me from returning to try some more menu items :)

This cafe has a nice atmosphere - open spaces, plenty of natural light, good seating and good coffee. You'll have to search for it though as there's not much in the way of signage outside. The location is lovely, right on the river in the cluster of apartments here. It's ideal for business meetings. I'd come back without question - thank you.

Beautiful fit out and lovely setting along the yarra River in Abbotsford. I had the spicy smashed avocado with the addition of a poached egg and bacon crumb. It was up there with some of the best smashed avo in Melbourne. I also tried the elixirs which was a bit of a novelty. The elixirs are made in consultation with a naturopath, but I am yet to feel the effects.. But it's fun to shot out of a medicine measuring cup. Save some room for a donut!!! Be prepared to pay for car parking.. So ride your bike or walk there along the yarra trail!

Freshly squeezed orange juices and a tea and latte

A gorgeous setting and has such a fresh and healthy feel. Bustling with people and action and a great place to be. The good looks absolutely beautiful and more like works of art than plates of food! Pricing is average - could be slightly cheaper for the portion sizes you get for some dishes. Again food looks incredible and tastes great too. A place i will definitely visit again but not one to add to my regulars list. Would recommend a visit for the experience though!

I came for breakfast, but it appears they've got a few beers on tap and a bar so I am keen to check out their evening offerings. For breakfast I was torn between their 'Yeusli' (Organic puffed quinoa, chia seeds, activated buckwheat, figs, goji berries, pomegranate seeds, coconut flakes, almonds, currents, raw cinnamon, your choice of milk on the side) and one of their incredible looking smoothies. I opted for the Yeusli and had no regrets. Delicious, super-charged with raw food goodness and a reasonably-sized, filling portion. No overload of oats and yoghurt like most cafe muesli offerings. Normally I don't give 5 stars if the coffee isn't amazing, but I loved the different food offering and concept enough to bump it back up. Coffee is totally fine but the black coffee is not amazing. If you're a latte drinker you probably won't notice at all and there's the bonus of being able to choose different milks if you're not into soy or lactose. The staff were friendly and accommodating, all menu items were well priced and can feed you for $15 or less. Winner.

I've tried many different ones, this last time included 4 types: roast sweet potato, freekah, tabouli & falafel salad - a bit of a middle eastern slant, totally delicious and healthy to boot, getting in a good couple of serves of veggies for lunch! I couldn't finish the whole thing (large takeaway container) so I ate half and saved the rest for alongside dinner that evening. Delish! I've also heard great things about the coffee, but haven't tried it myself. They are only open Monday to Friday, but they open super early (pre 6am) for your pre work coffee. There are a few outdoor tables that are good for a sunny day, but no room inside to sit and eat so you might need to takeaway if the weather ain't great. Friendly & efficient service tops it all off. But the one of the biggest lessons I learned was that Australia's coffee game is on a whole. 'nother. level. Regardless of where I went to eat or just chill, the establishment would have a ~$6000 espresso machine ready to go. Aunty Peg's, however, was the only place that I saw espresso machines without steam wands. My cousin, Jeremy, told me that they specialize in coffee in it's purest form, and thus, would never need steam wands (since they're never steaming milk). Jeremy and I are both fond of filter coffee, so we both decided to get a flight of V60s. This was a terrible idea. We didn't realized that that meant we would both have to drink ~800 mL of coffee each. Caffeine doesn't really do anything to me, but Jeremy was starting to get jittery by the end of the flight. If you're coming here with someone else, share the flight. However, if you're getting a flight of espresso, then yeah, it would make perfect sense to have your own. The flight included three different types of coffee each processed a different way. We tried a single origin, a honey processed single origin, and the gesha. I wish they offered the honey processed coffee for purchase, because that one was my favorite. It was so smooth and tasted like mangoes. The gesha reminded me of an Earl Grey tea, which was a weird since it's, you know, coffee. Regardless, all three of the coffees were delicious. The staff at Aunty Peg's was great too. The barista was laser focused while making the drinks. Once he finished making our flight, he was super chill and fun to talk to. I had a great time here. Everything about Aunty Peg's is what I want to see more of in Oklahoma city. I'm especially glad that I bought some coffee to take home. Try the Humbler, it tastes fantastic!

Many months in the making, the rumour mill has been rife with what was going on at their Collingwood site. Finally it is open, presenting itself in the form of a roastery, cafe, shop, warehouse and training centre. From the moment of walking in the front door the warehouse nature of the venue is apparent with large open spaces. Located directly in front of the door is the front counter with a delicious selection of pastries and cakes, freshly baked upstairs. Next to the counter are the large, ornate, dresser-style shop shelves with a vast array of brewing equipment, beans, merchandise and books for sale. The coffee bar is the centrepiece with a sweeping array of custom single group heads, grinders, filter brewing equipment and what appear to be beer taps. But they're not beer taps in the sense that they pour beer. Pioneering a new technique of cold brew coffee, a local Geelong-based brewery has been enlisted to brew coffee in cold water which is then kegged and poured on tap with the help of some nitrogen. Served in a beer glass to complete the experience, it almost similar to Guinness in body. A delicious apple and raspberry tea cake matched surprisingly well. It should also be noted that this is a black coffee-only cafe, there is no milk available. This has been done to better highlight the qualities of the many coffee beans on offer. Next to the bar are a number of benches with demo brewing equipment for prospective customers to try out with an endless supply of beans. The stars of the show, the roasting machines, are visible further back in the warehouse. It is clear that Aunty Peg's is all about bringing quality coffee and its origins and various brewing techniques closer to the general public. A must visit for anyone interested more in coffee or just to taste some good coffee and tasty cakes and pastries. But above all else, visit for the cold brew.
