I'll show you why people have posted negative reviews....take a look at the avocado toast. My 7 year old could have done a better job and if she couldn't, she certainly would not have sent an order out of the kitchen looking like that. The toast was inedible and some of the greens were rotten. That's what we got after waiting approximately 45 minutes for avocado toast, yogurt w granola, and pancakes (+3 iced teas and a coffee). They took the avocado toast off the bill and it was still $50 before tip! No food integrity or quality control. Don't waste your time or money. Um, is there a choice for negative 1?? We stayed at the Mineral Springs Resort for a few days back in December. After we were settled and checked things out around the resort, we decided to find the bar a get a couple of cocktails. We wandered into Kites Restaurant about midday on a Sunday. There were a few people having lunch and no one at the bar. We seated ourselves and waited a bit for someone to come out of the kitchen to help us. My husband ordered a Moscow Mule from the menu and I asked for a Stoli Orang with a splash of cranberry and some seltzer. They had no idea how to make the Moscow Mule. Not sure what they used, but instead of ginger beer, it tasted like some kind of lemon cleaner. No garnish, had to ask for a lime. Just really bad. I thought my drink order was pretty straightforward. The barmaid poured some Stoli, a little cranberry and some seltzer. It was only three-quarters full and she started filling the rest with ice. I asked for more cranberry and seltzer instead of ice. And... no garnish. I asked for a wedge of orange and that seemed to be an issue and was given a lime wedge as well. There were no decent-sounding appetizers so we skipped ordering food. No harm, no foul. We had dinner reservations at Restaurant Latour so would save our appetite for later. (See my review on the AMAZING) Restaurant Latour) So we had a resort credit for breakfast and went the next morning around 10am. Don't judge, it was a day off so we didn't need to get up early. We waited at Kites to be seated for about 10 minutes. Mind you, there were only about 8 tables with people at that point. I am not exaggerating, but the entire breakfast service took 90 minutes! There were so many people leaving because of the wait and because their orders were screwed up. We patiently waited. So I ordered the salmon plate and my husband ordered 2 fried eggs, sausage, hash browns and toast. My husband also ordered coffee that was filled exactly once in the entire hour and a half. I nursed my orange juice. When our meals FINALLY came out, the salmon looked beautiful and I was excited. For a hot minute. The "bagel" was a mini lenders bagel that was so dried out I couldn't even cut it. And there was no cream cheese as stated on the menu. Luckily my meal was already cold because getting the cream cheese and a replacement piece of toast took forever. My husband's breakfast had no toast and no hash browns. Two eggs, and two sausages. When the toast and hash browns finally arrived, they were not accompanied by butter and by then, the eggs were cold. All in all, both experiences with Kites Restaurant were pretty poor and we will never return. While checking out, I let the front desk know that breakfast was pretty terrible and took forever. He adjusted our bill and did not seem surprised at all. Since the people staying at Minerals are pretty much a captive audience, they could do really well if they improved their service and the quality of their food and drinks. read more

Since this area has absolutely NO other places to eat but this hellhole- my recommendation is to pack your own food for dinner. Pasta, rice, chicken, whatever. Do anything you can to avoid eating here. There was hair in two of the dishes we ordered and the service was slow. On top of that- the penne vodka was salty as hell. Just avoid it. Trust the reviews. Not those few tasteless people who rated this place 5/4/3 or even 2 stars. Cook your own food from home and bring it to your hotel room. Don't settle for this. It's like playing a game of "what will disappoint me this time?" Staff? Staff is very friendly, very nice. Service was for a larger party and ya know? I'd even say 5/5 service considering. However, the food... the Minerals Resort is beautiful so you'd expect great dining at such an establishment. You would be wrong. The food is pricey, which normally isn't an issue considering the wonderful nature of the resort, but wow the menu is basically spinning the wheel on what you will be disappointed about. The atmosphere also resembles a funeral, I mean no disrespect, but that doesn't get me in a party mood. The "Truffle Fries" were the frozen arby's fries with truffle seasoning and oil from a country you and I have never heard of... the risotto was Uncle Ben's rice with the steamables variety vegetable from the local grocery. To be fair, management gave us 20% off our party of 9 meal which is appreciated, but WOW that food was awful. The only good thing about it was you and your family will have a good time stating "wow that was an awful idea".... Food was delicious; a good portion and overall satisfying. There was no wait and the time from ordering to being served was reasonable. The main issue is the employees, although they were kind and polite, there was lack of attention. The service was the worst I've had - ever ! The hostess was extremely rude. She didn't greet us when we arrived and we waited for about 15 minutes to sit down. We got a table and it was another 20 minutes before anyone greeted us. We ordered breakfast - and then waited another 50 minutes before the food arrived. While waiting I asked several times where the food was - and was given hostile looks from the hostess / manager. Finally she stormed off and the waitress came over to tell me to definitely complain because she hates working for the manager. The food was OK - but certainly not worth waiting for (we ordered an omelette and bagel w lox). Worst experience we have ever had sitting down for breakfast. Hostess was rude to us and every group that came in after us. We had a 10am reservation, walked in at 9:55. We weren't seated till about 10:30 (stared at an empty dirty table for 20min.) After being seated we sat for 15 min before i had to go ask the hostess where our server was. And she told me she'll tey and find someone for us. Food was Ok but not for the prices. (The side of toast is literally 1 piece of bread) Save your money and go to the town about 5 min. Away and get your meals from a local restaurant. Dinner here was just as bad and over priced. We tried the buffet the following day for breakfast and although the service was good here the food was horrible. Everything was cold and seemed as if it had been sitting out all night. Bagels, croissants and muffins were hard as a rock (the person serving wouldn't even give them to us, she banged it on the table to show how stale it all was). We really were looking forward to loving our trip to Minerals resort but so many negatives (outside of the dining) would never allow us to book here again. Aug 2021, our server Breanna was fabulous! The decor of the restaurant needs to be spruced up a little, it looks outdated. Plus I cannot understand why the floor is rugged throughout the restaurant, it is harder to clean, and I can imagine the germs that must be imbedded in the rug. I would just pull the rug up and show the beautiful wood floors as in the Main Lobby, and it would be easier to clean. Now for our food order. I ordered the Grassfed Beef Hamburger (med. rare) that tasted okay. My other two friends ordered the Kale and Quinoa Salad - one ordered it with Salmon, and the other ordered the Kale Salad with Shrimp. They both said the salad was fine, and fish was fresh. However, they expected the Kale leaves in the salad to be chopped, not whole. All and all, besides the food just being okay, I am sad to say we will not be dining at this restaurant in the future because you can smell the pool chlorine throughout the restaurant, and that is a big turnoff for me. If you want to eat here, I would avoid sitting inside the restaurant and eat outside instead. read more

Cozy Bar at the Ski Resort My wife and I decided to take a tour through northern NJ including Vernon, home of the Mountain Creek ski resort, formerly Great Gorge/Vernon Valley. Fall is a nice time to enjoy the scenery which we did on a quiet Saturday. Before making the drive home we stopped in at the bar in Kites Restaurant that is upstairs from the health club and other stuff (hotel check-in, tennis courts, basketball court). So I cannot speak for the restaurant itself or its food quality, we did not eat. The bar is not huge but probably seats about 20 or so. It seems to be made from marble which is kind of a theme for this area of New Jersey which apparently had working quarries back in the day. The elevated vantage point offers a nice view on a clear day. The bartender was very sociable as one would expect and efficient in taking care of an assortment of customers, most of whom seemed to be in town for wedding celebrations. There was a good selection of craft beers on tap, a variety of wines and an assortment of liquors. I would say the prices were moderate to high however in this part of the state there are not too many options. Overall we enjoyed our time at Kites and I'm sure will return again when we are in the area. read more

Wow, what a pleasant surprise! All these negative reviews made my wife and I second guess our decision to go out for breakfast at Kites restaurant inside of Minerals Resort. We were so glad that we did! Our server,Heidi, greeted us promptly with a $30 courtesy card for our meal. I got two eggs any style with bacon, hash browns, and English muffin with jelly and my wife got the jersey ham sandwich on a brioche bun. We were served hot coffee while waiting for our breakfast. The food came out in a timely manner and let me tell you,it was so good!! The best part of our experience was our server, Heidi. We did not need to ask for anything. Coffee refills, water refills, and condiments for our breakfast were served without asking. Thank you again for a lovely experience. We will definitely be back. read more

Live in the area. Staff at Kites is always great and extremely accommodating. Have been going there for years. About a year ago someone decided to completely change the menu and get rid of most of the favorites. What stayed on the menu received a pretty steep price increase (yes, I know inflation but this exceeded expectations). Restaurant is still pretty good but nowhere near what it had been which is disappointing. Agee with most of the posts talking about no reservations and the restaurant is half empty but I assume that is a staffing issue. Not sure if it was a change in management that mixed things up but most people aren't happy. It's a shame because it is a really nice spot. read more

The positives? Service was wonderful the two times we went there during our stay at Minerals. The negative? The food. We ordered two flatbreads. One was the Buffalo chicken. The other was a pepperoni, sausage, and ham. The ham on the flatbread was the kind you get on Easter. I mean. Really? It was almost gray and thickly cut. No sausage to be found. The pepperoni was bland. We picked off the ham since it was so unappealing. The flatbread dough was mushy and not baked on either order. The Buffalo chicken was just ok. Our server was awesome. He apologized, went to speak to the manager. The solution from the manager was another round of drinks on the house. Sigh. BEWARE!!! THIS PLACE WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY!!! Believe all the other awful reviews that you read here, Google, TripAdvisor, etc- they are SO bad! The poor food quality, hour long wait just for a drink and additional hour and a half long wait for food is forgiveable. What is not forgiveable is the absolute WORST manager I have ever seen at a restaurant in my entire life! He leaves his poor staff in the weeds and walks away throwing his hands up and leaving them to deal with all the issues. Then he won't give you a receipt, lying about his printer being down, charge you double and then lie to AMEX (and his boss) that you refused to sign the receipt. In between all this he will literally scream in your face after getting frustrated with all the chaos he created around him- which based on other reviews seems like yelling at customers is common for him. This ridiculous man needs to be fired immediately as he WILL end up getting this place into a law suit. Yikes y'all. The servers are clearly overwhelmed. The hostess brought us water because we had been sitting for 20 minutes and hadn't been greeted. We saw a table sit dirty for an hour. A couple next to us flagged down the food runner and asked for more coffee; he literally replied "you'll have to get your server for that" and the guest was like well I haven't seen her but the guy already walked off by then. As someone who used to work in hospitality, that is an incredibly unacceptable response. He gave us our food as well but after seeing his previous interaction, I didn't want to ask him for the silverware or salt. And the breakfast food was very not appetizing. Everything tastes very artificial and just lacks ...everything. The table next to us hated the eggs (super simple right?) and got those removed. The table on the other side hated the avocado toast and got that removed. Stayed at Minerals for the weekend and had both dinner and brunch at Kites restaurant. Absolutely loved the place. First off, all the food was great. Had a steak that was cooked perfectly and a penne vodka that was excellent. Brunch was equally as good, lots of options and everything was fresh. Restaurant has a nice atmosphere and bar area, all of the staff was friendly and professional. Overall experience was great and will be returning. read more

First let say I read a good portion of reviews for this and am seriously surprised at the amount of negative reviews. My wife and I stayed at the resort for New Years and had dinner at Kites one night. I am not kidding when I say, it was one of the most enjoyable 3 course meals I've ever had. We had the buffalo chicken focaccia for appetizer which was fantastic. Great bread and great buffalo sauce. My wife and I loved it. I don't remember what my wife had for main course but she liked it. I got the friend chicken meal, which was a weird selection for me. IT WAS AWESOME! Can honestly say I'm not the biggest fried chicken connoisseur but this was the best fried chicken I've ever had. Great portion. Dessert was my favorite. I'm obsessed with cheesecake and I got the oreo cheesecake. Huge portion, very creamy. It was so good I ran and got a piece to go the next day. Apparently some people have had issues with their servers but ours was very sweet and gave good service. I unfortunately do not remember her name. If there is one thing I would gather from the bad reviews, don't try the calamari. Other than that, I loved the meal and will absolutely go back anytime I am in that area. read more

If I could give this restaurant zero stars, I would. Where to begin? First, we ordered the fried Mac and cheese as an appetizer. The menu said Mac and cheese with marinara sauce. We don't eat pork. One bite and it was obvious there is bacon in the fried Mac and cheese. This should have been labeled as such. I ordered a burger cooked medium. I got a well done burger. My wife ordered the lasagna- it was awful! It had soggy bread crumbs on top. She is a lover of all things cheese and this had the worst tasting mozzarella and ricotta cheeses on it. It didn't even taste like cheese. Worst of all, she could taste freezer burn. This is objectively bad food at any price, but the meal was not cheap. Also the keg of the beer I was going to order was kicked, and the soda was $4! Bottled beer was $5. Help me understand how a restaurant can charge $4 for a fountain soda. Would not recommend. They were very polite and did a great job with our order and service. This is expensive for what you get. I'd rather drive to Newton, Sparta or even Warwick to get a top notch meal for these prices. Wow! I'm not quite sure why people have posted such negative reviews! We dined here twice and had a lovely experience. The bartenders Jessie and Natalie are kind, attentive and knowledgeable. Racquel, the manager, subbed in earlier but the day and was just as kind and attentive. I had the portobello mushroom sandwich for lunch; it was fabulous! The fries have a great texture to them and we're cooked perfectly. My husband had the angus burger with Caramelized onions. The burger was cooked exactly as asked; medium rare. They have some great IPA's on tap, as well. For dinner, we started with salads and they were huge! My husband had the salmon with a corn risotto. It was cooked very nicely and the risotto was delicious. I had the grilled shrimp and cheddar mashed potatoes. I suggest asking for something to dip the shrimp in, perhaps the Thai chili sauce from the calamari (I did that, it was awesome.) The potatoes needed a touch of salt, but that's just my preference. Agree with previous poster. We came in expecting very little, so we were pleasantly surprised to find the food at Kites delicious! We had a true professional, (thank you Shervin) navigating us through the menu and making recommendations! Cocktails! Try "the traditional" (agave on the side). Apps: calamari was soft not chewy. Very filling. The pasta dish with pancetta and spinach was very good. Dessert was just eh! But, We would both tell you the restaurant is far better than what you are expecting... enjoy! Worth it to mention, the Minerals Hotel and Kites Restaurant were renovated in Sept 2017, so my guess is that many of these reviews were prior to the improvements. read more

It was a weekend of hilarious failures that started with ordering door dash from our minerals condo from kites. After 2 hours door dash cancelled, we drove down the hill and ordered take out, the bartender was empathetic and helpful. The menu had something for all 9 us. The Caesar salad was better than I expected, the burger was good. My boys had wings, they said they were really good. Side note: the next day we tried to go tubing... fail, and then we bought day passes for the pool and 1 hour later the power went out in most of Sussex county. We cut our weekend short, Kites take out and the friendly service was the most positive thing about our stay - thank you! read more

Sadly Kites Doesn't even deserve 1 star. We stayed at Crystal Springs Resort but going by the looks on the items on the Kites menu, the food looked appetizing, so we tried it. BIG MISTAKE! Spent almost $100 for food that should've been less then 30$. B A D! My husband had the lobster bisque and said it was "eh". For dinner he had the ravioli trio (one couldn't mess up a ravioli?!? Right!?!) I ordered the Short ribs over "polenta". First of all, let me set the mood... The bar was packed but no one sitting in the restaurant. Place smelt like old bar. Cigarette musty scent in the furniture and that old booze smell! Looks ok, especially under dimly lit lighting, so that helped. Back to food.... COLD (no ones in the joint... What was it waiting for to be served?). Flavorless... How can one under flavor ravioli?? And they were rubbery. Short ribs... Well, it was dry and flavorless. And the polenta was the WORST I've ever had. And also cold. The best thing I had was a house salad for $10. (Which should have been included). Goto grand cascades for hotel and biosphere pool. Do not goto minerals or their restaurant, Kites. Sorry :/ This was whilped up to post a few years ago... things may have changed now that it's 2017. I dunno but overall I believe all views should be heard. Hope things have improved. Dinner, my soda glass had something disgusting in it so had to send it back. Penne vodka was okay - more acidic tasting than I prefer but not terrible. Husbands burger he said was good. Wow. I suppose this place stays in business because it's connected to a resort, but I was very surprised at how bad the food was up and down! The best part of the night were the appetizers. The chicken wings, crab cake, and french fries were good enough--standard bar food. My cocktail was cloying, however. It didn't matter much, since I never received my second one. But, and to be fair we had a large group, the entrees were all jacked up. The kids food came out randomly, several of the orders were wrong, and the worst part, the meat wasn't cooked to order. We repeatedly sent the food back to get it corrected and the restaurant just wasn't able to do it. We left disappointed. The fingerling potatoes were undercooked and swimming in oil. I've never sent back food in my life but I couldn't find one edible item on my plate. Had a horrible experience with the manager Shannon this past Saturday 7/25 during morning breakfast. I went up to get an ice coffee and she was extremely rude. The way she spoke to the guest (myself and another family of three) was very condescending. She acted like the customers coming into Kites were bothering her. I asked for an Ice coffee and She said they didn't make them (even though I paid for 2 the day before with no issue). I wasn't there for breakfast just going to buy a coffee (which she didn't even let me finish explaining as she kept telling me I had to go up the stairs to get in line for service). I didn't argue with her because of how aggressive she was and I was with my two year old son. She kept telling me I had to go up the stairs, even though she saw me with my son in a stroller and she knew I didn't want breakfast and couldn't go up the stairs because there was no ramp without leaving him. The waiter who helped me the day before with coffee saw me and he made me an ice coffee (literally hot coffee over ice, nothing crazy)- she stormed pass me and ran into the kitchen and got mad at him. He came out and told me I couldn't even put sugar in my coffee or cream and I had to do it outside (I'm assuming because she was mad at him). My husband owns a restaurant in the city and this type of behavior from the manager is very unacceptable. I also never write reviews like this because I know how serious they are taken (at least in his restaurants and others in the city). If they didn't serve ice coffee that is fine but it was the way she went about it especially knowing there was no way I could take my son up the stairs without leaving him unattended and for an area that I didn't even need anything from (food). The servers were the nice ones saying it was no problem and were very customer friendly. I would never let this type of person be the manager or the face of the restaurant where they should be nice to the customers. No one had an attitude with her. I stood at Minerals Resort with my sister to celebrate her 30th birthday. We originally had reservations to an outside restaurant but decided to stay in the resort due to convenience. We arrived at 0845 pm knowing very well that the kitchen closed at 9. We sat down and knew exactly what to order due to kitchen time. I ordered a burger which was good , and my sister ordered the focaccia three cheese which was more like a slice of pizza. No biggie - What really upset me the most was the way we were treated by our server , Barbara. We understood the kitchen closed at 9 but that doesn't mean service or rushing a table out of the dining area should cease. I have worked in the restaurant business prior to starting my career- I understand the need to place our order in a timely fashion. During our time eating, my sister reached over to grab two cups- this was all to make Barbara's workload less. Instead of asking her we just utilized the cups provided at the next empty table - she made it a point with huffing and puffing how we are removing glassware from the adjoining tables. Very unprofessional- really was it that big of a deal to call a table out ( who you are serving , by the way ). We had 10.30 am Reservation for Sunday brunch.We were sat at 10.50 am.Our server had a serious attitude and reminded us we need to put our order in as Brunch was finished at 11 am,knowing full well what time we sat down Our food was brought out 35 minutes after ordering Food runner served the food.Our server NEVER came to our table to ask if we had everything,never mentioned to enjoy etc. Smoked salmon was served with 2 bagels not toasted(toasted on the menu) and no cream cheese After multiple times of trying to get our servers attention, we explained no cream cheese and not being toasted,her response was "OH" She came back with the toasted bagels and no cream cheese Oh well , know not to eat here again read more

The food was not all terrible as I've been reading, I got the Avocado toast to start off which was delicious, just the portion came out for one person I had to cut it in half to let my wife try it. My main course was the meat loaf, the amount of food you get is enough to fill you up, as for the food itself the meat loaf was a little too salty, also came with spinach and potatoes, the spinach was under the meat loaf which I found odd as I had to keep moving the food all over to dig it out.
