When the exchange on my part was completed I politely said thank him for his help, he said nothing, literally nothing. As I was exiting the store, three other associates emerged from somewhere, and none of them spoke or acknowledge me or the other customer. Pottery barn is always better than this.

Lays off employees with no warning and steals their commission…read more I was a designer here and got laid off without warning December 4, 2024 and was told to go home right before the holidays. No notice, no wrong doing, but laid off on the spot. The only reasoning is because the department didn't make enough money during the week of Thanksgiving. Yet, we were only open for about 2-3 days during this week with multiple people out on vacation. Have not been paid my remaining commission for close to $70,000 in sales. I had multiple installs scheduled between December-February. From my understanding of what I experienced, they will just give my commission to the next guy (whoever they want) or the GM and I get $0. Getting $0 is insanity when I had to drive to these people's houses, get field measurements from the customer, design to their specifications, go back and forth with revisions of renders, and MAKE THE SALE. The exact same thing happened to the person I replaced at the time. She would call to check on her commission and we were told to not say anything. Worked there for 4 months, never met the owner, never even got to speak to him. Sold almost $200,000. Owner doesn't seem interested enough in the business to even meet the people that make him money, let alone any customer. If sales are low, he will lay you off without warning, stuff your commission sales into his pocket or the next guy and move on. I get businesses are supposed to make money, but stealing MY commission from MY sales just because YOU laid me off, because YOU weren't making enough money, is a super shady business practice and makes for a untrusted work environment. Many great people work here, and many of them know exactly what I'm talking about and even fear of this themselves. I'm sure any one of them would feel the same way if in this position. I was told I had no wrong doing in being laid off, so why should I have to call and fight for my commission from the design sales I made? I shouldn't. I will take this to the BBB and as far as I can to get things sorted for the future of employees hired here.

Matt Schroeder, owner, was hired on Nov. 12, 2023. The job is still not complete. I've been stood…read moreup multiple times with a never ending stream of excuses in the rare event communication did occur. However, my texts, voice mails, and emails have been ignored 95% of the time. His wife showed up to collect a draw while in the middle of a major move. He gave me 15 minutes notice and I had no choice but to trust the amount she told me was due. He didn't contractually complete all items on the contract and charged me an additional $600 on top of the items that should have been subtracted. It's been 3 months since Matt showed up. My bathroom pocket doors won't close because he has the trim too tight and it has scraped the paint off the doors after I painted them. The cabinets and countertops are not finished. I've had replacement doors sitting here in the packaging since early Dec. for him to change out cabinet doors that were damaged. Some of the doors can't even be opened because he never adjusted them despite him telling me he had. They are hitting the ceiling. The floor has an issue that needs to be looked at and addressed. You can see it sink when walking across it. I have various nicks and damage that needed to be touched up. The countertop over the dishwasher is missing an end piece. There are large gaps between counters and walls that he was supposed to fix. There are drawers that need to be adjusted and aligned. None of the kitchen or bath countertops, nor the windowsill in the kitchen was caulked. There are nails coming through some of the cabinets. The kick plate is sloppy and sticking out too far. The floor in the bathroom is missing shoe mold and the concrete slab is showing. In addition, after all my walls were freshly painted, as well as fixtures and floors installed, Matt showed up while I wasn't here in November and proceeded to cut inside my living area using his table saw. The walls were covered in saw dust that he never cleaned and he also took a chunk out of the ceiling rotating his trim around to cut it. I'm extremely disappointed in their lack of professionalism and failure to communicate professionally, as well as show up when I'm scheduled. Therefore, I will not use him in the future and can't recommend.
