Foodance - Pollo alla cacciatora

Married partners Cesare and Kevin claim in large letters on their website: "Food is our passion."…read more I think it is safe to add hospitality to their list of passions as well. Their food was excellent and a large part of my 5 stars, of course, but never have I felt so welcomed and at home in a restaurant thanks to its two owners. Their warmth and friendliness truly elevated our night out to the next level. My girlfriend and I stopped in at about 7 on a Wednesday night. We didn't have a reservation but were able to be seated right away. The restaurant was mostly filled, dimly lit, with an eclectic mix of Italian bric a brac scattered about the room. The ambiance was intimate and just perfect. Both Kevin and Cesare were working the room, interacting with guests while taking orders and running food. I ordered a champagne cocktail and pistachio encrusted chicken off the list of specials, while my girlfriend had a smoked Negroni and pasta with mushrooms. We shared tiramisu for dessert. Everything we had was decadent and delicious. The tiny room features a bar just big enough for three bar stools, and a small stage that could fit a handful of musicians. While the food was great, I would be equally as happy to just sit at the bar enjoying live music and watching the happy dance of the diners at their tables. We're not from New York, so sadly we can't be regulars here, but we'll absolutely come back someday, and in the meantime we'll spread the word for people to put this one on their list.

This was the best gnocchi I've ever had! The pistachio pesto sauce was fresh and a beautiful vivid green color. The restaurant is super romantic at night with dim lighting and Italian music in the background. On the weekends there is live music, and they even a piano setup in the corner of the dining room.

We had an incredible experience with Shandra! My mother is vegetarian and most cooking classes don't cater to that. But this class left us full and happy! My mom really connected with her too. I have been eating the leftovers for days since she sent us home with so much food. I would love to take another league of kitchens class.

This was truly the most unique culinary and cultural experience that I've ever done!…read more I ventured to Borough Park to attend the Uzbek immersion workshop with Damira. She and her husband warmly welcomed us into their home and led us to a beautifully decorated table of what was described as a "welcome snack," but was actually a delicious feast in itself. There was Uzbek dried fruits, nuts, both sweet and savory pastries, and hot green tea. I loved the Uzbek raisins, which are bigger and juicier and just better than any raisins I've ever had! As we ate, Damira shared photos and stories of her family's life in Samarkand, an ancient city in Uzbekistan that lies on the silk road. Once we were all well-acquainted and nourished, we headed to the kitchen to cook the main feast. On the menu were homemade individual breads, spinach stuffed pastries, a spring cabbage salad, a cucumber potato salad, and a lamb stew. Damira was such a great teacher, demonstrating techniques before having us actively participate in the prep, cooking, and serving of each dish. She timed everything perfectly so that we had breaks and ate basically the entire afternoon, while continuing to engage us in stories of her home and culture. When we sat down for the final meal, the delicious food was somehow made even better from the meaningful connection we all shared while cooking it. The four and a half hour class flew by and while I didn't want to leave, I was very happy when we were each sent home with enough leftovers to last another two meals.

De Gustibus - Caviar tasting

De gus I finally…read moremade my way to De Gustubus and really happy that I did! My friend was doing the cooking demonstration and although I got there a few minutes late the staff and crowd was very welcoming. Chef Ayesha is amazing! She is from Shukette which recently opened in Chelsea, a part of the restaurant group of a few other restaurants including Shuka, Vics and Rosies. Also, to have your food prepared by an incredibly high level talented Chef with quality wine pairings is very lovely experience! Sal Rizzo, the owner is very accommodating and very entertaining as a host. he was the perfect energy for the group with very positive and entertaining comments. The space only fits about 30 people and the alcohol was refilled. While the cost might seem high ($145 with fees) for 90 minutes it went a bit over and they did not rush you out. I had five drinks (One proseseco, two white, and two red) so it was well worth it. Service was top not h. The staff were en pointe and attentive. They were always cleaning up after you're making sure that you got your food at the right time. I was also lucky enough that our chef made us laugh the entire time because she has a fantastic personality. Furthermore, every dish was created to perfection and visually appealing with very different interesting flavor profiles. I've been to several of her restaurants and not let down. I will enjoy returning!

Shame on me for not reviewing DeGustibus sooner. I attended several cooking demos pre-COVID and…read morejust attended one last night (the first in years). The format is wonderful. Excellent award winning working chefs make meals or specialties and talk about the food and ingredients. You watch, you eat. The video screens enable you to see techniques. The chefs answer all your questions and you get the recipes. But wait! There's more!!! There are wines paired with each course and a rep (or if you are lucky, the winemaker) tells you about the wine, the flavors, why it goes with the food etc. what a perfect night. You are always among a friendly, diverse, foodie crowd and it's a blast. I went alone last night and enjoyed crispy caper and eggplant campionata with potato chips, baby lamb chop with a delis glaze and pomegranate, crispy duck with plum compote and goat cheese cheesecake with macerated berries. Chef was Adrienne Cavalo from Miami and the wine was Trivento from Argentina (i am now a Malbec fan). Another time I went and it was Passamore caviars with great dishes and champagnes. The staff is amazing--go on the website and look at the upcoming demos and classes. You will not regret it. It's a foodies dream! And one more thing. It's on the 8th floor of Macy's Herald Sq. Yup--who knew?! It's tucked near the elevators by the exit to Santa's workshop.

The lessons took place in Chef Phensri's own kitchen in Oldbridge, and right away we were made to feel at home. The Pad-Thai was the best I've ever tasted, and I'd actually made it myself! By the end of the class we were bursting with great food and cooking knowledge. I would highly recommend trying the classes. They also do them in Manhattan, and I was told they do events and private cooking parties, as well. P.S. - this review may sound solicited, but it's completely on the level. I've always wanted to learn how to make authentic thai food, given that I know how it should taste. Online recipes were always unclear and my frustration led me to finding out about Fantastic Thai. I chose to take the all day cooking class (9 hours) at Chef Phensri's house in Old Bridge, NJ. Great cooking class! It was a small class, only 3 of us in all so we learned loads of dishes and everyone had a chance to make most of them. We learned about 10 - 14 different dishes and even took home some laminated copies of other popular recipes. Not to mention, we ate all our food and took home all the leftovers :) Definitely recommend this class if you're dying to learn how to make authentic thai food. Chef Phensri does a great job simplifying it and making it fun. Thanks again and can't wait to come back!
