A couple of weeks ago I hired Joe to put a heated floor in my tiny bathroom. He was very punctual in coming out to give me an estimate. I tore out the existing floor to save myself a little money. Joe layed the heated floor for me with a ceramic tile floor over that. Once he started the job, he stuck with it because as I pointed out to him, that was my only bathroom, and the facilities are a necessity. He also installed an outside plug for me. The one thing I would have preferred is that I would have liked to have been home while all the work was being done, I did not like having to communicate over the phone. But work schedules did not permit. He was, however, very good about letting me know when he was coming and going so I could plan accordingly. I hired Joe and his team to paint my kitchen cabinets and put a new backsplash in. To put it simply, they did a decent job on the bulk of the work but when it comes to detail they're terrible. Lots of missed spots on my cabinets, and trim. Cabinet hinges not put back on properly. A lot of paint spots on the floor that we have had to clean up. Although Joe did offer to come back and fix the work that I wasn't satisfied with I can't trust someone who was that comfortable leaving a job that was done in such a rushed manner. read more

Joe and his team remodeled our bathroom this spring, and we couldn't be happier. The reason we decided to hire Kitchen & Bath Spec. over others we had gotten quotes from was both his reasonable price and his willingness to work with us on our vision. I'm not a professional interior designer, but other contractors wanted to tell us how to design our bathroom in a way that didn't fit with the style of our older, mid-century modern home. We wanted to modernize our bathroom without leaving that mid-century, simple aesthetic behind. Our house was built in 1958, and with old houses come some special challenges -- especially with leveling everything! Joe did a great job laying the tile on our walls and floors so you can't tell there's a nearly 6" difference in the floor from one side of the room to the other. The plumbing was a challenge as well, but in the end everything got sorted out! It was frustrating at times, but Joe and his team were friendly and did everything they could to make everything the way it should be and work with our quirky old house. The only issues we had were electrical, which is also an unusual low-voltage system. As such, some of the switches/lights were routed wrong, and my husband ended up having to switch the wires in the boxes around. It was a minor mistake, which was easily fixed. The pictures really don't do it justice. Our previous bathroom was small, cramped and frustrating for two people to use. Now, after taking out a wall and installing a walk-in shower, freestanding tub, and functional vanity (which Joe helped us convert from a flat-packed dresser), the bathroom is both functional and beautiful. Before, I wouldn't even take a bath in there and hated digging around for things under the vanity everyday. Now it's a joy to relax in there. Thank you to Joe and your team! read more

We contracted with Joe Laverdiere to remodel our Mother's bathroom. Not only was his bid right in line with our estimate, but he was good to work with. Our situation was a bit unique as we live out of state so was relying on him to communicate with us regularly on progress and changes in scope as the project progressed. For the most part, that worked very well. He completed the work within the agreed timeframe and was responsive to any problems found with punchout work. We have more remodeling work planned for 2023 and will absolutely be talking with Joe about the possibility of his helping us with it. read more

Joe L has been in our home twice now and will be invited back for more projects! The biggest compliment we can give Joe is his communication skills. He walked us thru the process, explained each line item on the quote - whether it was an estimate or a firm cost and talked to us BEFORE doing any task that was going to be additional cost. Example - he was widening 2 doorways. When he went to purchase the doors, he found them to be $20 more and called before purchasing. That may seem like a small thing, but it's a major indication of his character. Most would have just spent the extra and said "oh by the way...". He also widened the walk-in shower. It had a 36" opening with a 20" wall on the side, we wanted to open it completely. He walked thru the issues of doing that, listened to my concerns, talked thru design options and worked hard to make it look original - not a re-design. Joe and his team did an outstanding job removing our old bathtub and replacing it with a new shower. The ceramic tile his team custom cut and installed near the ceiling and walls adjacent to the shower is decorative and nicely seal grouted. Joe is hands-on and when you sign a contract with his company it's reasonably priced and you'll see him on the job with his team most (if not all) of the time. They all take pride in their work and they kept the work area as clean as they could throughout the project. Make sure you draft your own blueprint for your remodeling project, do your homework and thoroughly explain to Joe what you want upfront so he's able to effectively bring your vision to life for you. read more

Needed help building a second bathroom. Joe and his team delivered phenomenal results, especially in regards to my extra large 2 person Roman styled stone tile shower. The detail in the accent rows and grout work show a level of pride in workmanship seldom seen nowadays. The floor must be made out of concrete, it feels solid, sturdy, and no longer creaks when you walk on it. Overall, very impressed and highly recommended. read more

This contractor was listed on Angie's List with a very high rating so we hired him to remodel our bathroom. This was a huge MISTAKE!! His work was of very poor quality and he had to redo much of it, even on the second try he did not do it correctly. He blamed a lot of the problem with our not being satisfied on the fact that we had problems getting the tub surround on time, this certainly was not the fact! Thank goodness the tub surround was not here on time because he would have put it in and we would not have seen the sloppy job he did on the plumbing. We also would not have noticed that he had not properly prepared the walls to accept the tub surround per the instruction that he was given by the manufacturer. The floor covering was cut too small when he installed it and there were gaps showing around the baseboard. He also had to re cut the baseboard several times and still never got it right. The wall and ceiling repairs were not done correctly and the painting was very poorly done. Joe, after two attempts, hired a union painter to get it right. This man did a great job and said he would be back the next day to finish. When Joe came by later that day and I told him that the painter he had sent would return the next day, he replied, "He will come back when I tell him to!" The fan was vented out the roof and was done in the same poor workmanship as the rest of the work had been done. In fact, we have a hole in our roof about 2 1/2 feet by 1 1/2 feet that we still need to have repaired because the new contractor put the venting according to code and could not use the large hole that Joe had already cut. The toilet was not correctly attached at the floor and turned after it was put in. He installed a new hot water heater and we had to call Ameren out to repair a gas leak due to improper installation, Joe was out of town for Christmas so we could not contact him. We were still waiting for the correct tub surround to arrive. At this time we assessed the work that had been done in the bathroom and made a list to go over with Joe of things that were needing to be redone and to tell him that we had decided that he needed to replace the flooring because we were not happy with his ideas to cover up the gaps that were showing around the baseboard. We purchased a high quality product and trusted him to do quality work when installing it. This remodel with Kitchen an Bath Specialties by Contractors Plus was anything but "special", it was a disaster! We finally received the right tub surround, after having been shipped three other from the manufacturer that were shipped incorrectly. When we called Joe to tell him about the tub surround arriving, the decision on the flooring and giving him the list of things that still needed to be fixed, he decided he did not want to finish the job. We had to hire another contractor to come in and he had to redo everything that Joe had done because of poor workmanship. We had to pay out another $4000.00 because all the work that Joe had done had to be completely redone. So in essence, we paid Joe for nothing. We have proof of everything that is mentioned in this review. The only things that were done correctly by Joe at Kitchen and Bath Specialties by Contractors Plus were the installation of the medicine cabinet and the lighting over the vanity. read more
