Today, I returned and ordered both, again! Today I also ordered the Sea Salt Pearl which is a milk cake topped with cream, caramel, and the boba on top. Delicious! The guys that work there are very nice and accommodating. I always tip them because they do such a great job and get me my delicious coffee fix when I need it most. Such a nice establishment overall! The good: The building is a great place to relax and enjoy time with friends, which is a good thing because you're going to be there for a while (more later). It's a corner space and has lots of light from big windows and the decor is inviting with a mix of tables, booths, banquettes, and a lounge area with club chairs next to a full wall dedicated to the US constitution and the founders. The air conditioning is weapons grade and the coffee related options are varied and quite good. An important note is that all of their coffee drinks can be had with decaffeinated coffee for those who can't enjoy caffeine. I have ordered the Breakfast on a Dime twice and on each occasion the eggs had a wonderfully fresh flavor. They are served with a cap of arugula which makes for a nice looking plate. My companions had omelets which were pleasant with the exception of the ragu being thought too salty. The bad: The chairs look like they should be comfortable but somehow fail to actually BE comfortable. There are some details that I use as proxies for quality that are usually good indicators for what kind of experience I should expect. For a relaxed brunch environment it's a mixed bag here; which kind of matches reality. The flatware is an attractive pattern and substantial in the hand and comes wrapped in a thick paper napkin that inspires confidence. Two big thumbs up. They include attractive salt and pepper shakers on the table which work reasonably well but are not as good as the grinders available at many other diners, so one thumb sideways. They also have an oil based 'spread' on the table which is intended to be used on breads. The less said of this the better. One huge thumbs down (in fairness, they will bring actual Kerrygold butter to the table if asked). I have now tried the house biscuit and their sourdough toast and found them both to be a disappointment. The Breakfast on a Dime comes with two eggs, two strips of very thin bacon, and one slice of toast and the upcharge to get one biscuit is $2. The sourdough bread didn't have the strong flavor that one expects nor did it have the large voids typical of a big rise from yeast. It was Al's a singularly small and thin slice of bread cut diagonally. On my first visit the bacon was adequately cooked but on this visit one half of one slice was inedibly raw. The ugly: most of the negative reviews that I have read of this restaurant were related to the service and I now understand why. On my first visit the attention from our server could be charitably described as distracted. The dining room was less than half full but we still had to flag down our server for coffee refills and we did not receive the customary check from a manager that one expects these days. The service today was simply awful. With only four or five other tables occupied we were seated without flatware and the hostess had to take our drink order. Ten minutes later we had to flag down our server to check on the coffee drinks and we had to ask for water a second time. The drinks were eventually delivered and we placed our food order and waited. And waited. Our food was finally delivered and flatware came shortly afterwards. From there the meal continued as one might expect with the occasional need to flag down a server for drink refills. Once again we did not receive any attention from management. The verdict: As much as I would like to recommend this restaurant without reservation I simply cannot do so in good conscience. While the atmosphere is excellent and the food is good overall, the quality of service is bad even for Rockwall. I will give them one more try in several weeks time to see if it has improved.

The cookies are obviously not freshly kept. I called the store and was extremely nice as usual expressing our concern for the experience of the cookies not being fresh. The young guy said he was the manger, but could not share his name (and that's ok), however, he did say that the cookies are kept at room temperature...in other words they are not fresh.
