This woman is not kind. Rent from anyone else -- there are other options. She will take absurd amounts of money from college students, exploiting them every chance she gets. Note how every positive response is from 1) someone who knows her personally or 2) a graduate student. She will take advantage of you and treat everyone on your lease poorly. I am a former Dartmouth graduate student who rented from Jolin for 5 years in Hanover. She was always very responsive to maintenance requests and respectful. She made sure that she or another staff member alerted me at least 24 hours in advance before someone would enter my apartment. My apartment was well taken care of and a very nice home to return to each day. The rent prices were reasonable for the quality you received and consistent with prices for the area overall. I highly recommend renting from KCC if you want quality housing in the Upper Valley, follow the rules, and are polite with staff. I suspect the negative reviews here are left by former tenants who were not communicative, disrespectful to staff, and had unreasonable expectations. The Upper Valley has a housing crisis, so it's critical you alert the leasing office prior to Thanksgiving if you'd like to renew your lease for the next year. If you are considering a new lease, do not take too much time to decide, because apartments are rented out on a first come, first serve basis. Additionally, if there's a problem with your apartment, you need to let Jolin or another staff member know; they won't know unless you tell them. The staff were always polite and friendly with me because I tried to be polite and respectful as well. Lastly, KCC rents out hundreds of rooms - be respectful of their time and realize they have hundreds of other tenants they're trying to accommodate other than you. Listed a property that the owner of the house didn't even confirm a renewal on. While this was going on Jolin dragged her feet with replying to us which left us without any options to rent elsewhere. Even when touring, she was rude and demeaning to her current tenants. Her lack of communication and unprofessional operations left us without a unit for the upcoming year. I purchased and sold a house with Jolin and couldn't have been happier. Jolin's creative approach got me the house that I wanted and probably would have lost out on without her. When it came to sell my house she knew exactly what needed to be done to show the house beautifully and get it sold for substantially over asking. Some of the best things about working with Jolin (If you can get her - she's super busy) 1. She's very smart and knows the real estate business inside and out 2. She has very high standards and get things done efficiently 3. She knows what needs to be done to sell your home and will get the resources on site to help you get any work done quickly. (The same is true for any work you need done at your new home!) 4. She's an engineer herself so she has deep understanding of the inspection process and how serious any findings are and what it will take to remedy any issues. I can't recommend Jolin highly enough and would very happily work with her again. read more

While some of their houses are nice, it was not at all a good experience renting - unannounced workers, unprofessional communication with renters, hardly any security deposit returned, etc. Be warned! Tips: Try renting from individuals in the Hanover area (rather than through companies) since you can often find better options & better landlords. When we finished the lease last month, she just told us it will deduct maybe less than 100 dollars to clean the house because everything is fine. However, I received the deposit check today. There are only less than 100 left and more than 200 deducted for cleaning. This means we three paid almost 700 to clean the house altogether. Jolin never told us about this before and only mailed the list printed by herself about the totally pay along with the deposit check. I am trying to argue with here on this issue. Besides, always showing up in the morning with other potential tenants is annoying while you were sleeping. read more

As someone who has a daughter that rented from this individual, I support EVERY negative review and recommend you explore any other option first. Unfortunately you don't have many other options in Hanover and she knows it. But if you must, DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. She withheld $300+ dollars for a damaged lawn that never existed. My daughter just forgot to document the outside. Besides the fact the property was gross, it had a front and a back door. For several weeks, the front door could not open - what if there had been a fire??? In another property smoke detectors had been removed and loose exposed wires hung from the ceiling. On another occasion, she only dealt with a mold issue only after a roommate declared an asthma issue. read more

I rented from a property managed by Jolin for 2 years. The rent was completely reasonable, and Jolin was a wonderful property manager. I got to know her quite well. She was very upfront about her practices, and explained everything in the lease, and to me in person, and was available whenever I needed her. In my apartment, she provided high speed _fiber_ network interconnects included in the rent. She had the network cable ran from boston for her properties. How amazing is that!? She had the place fully furnished and cleaned before and after renting. When we moved in, I wanted to add a dishwasher to the unit, so she got it installed. We only had wireless access ot the faster internet, and we got a cable run up from the basement. Later, I wanted a washer and dryer, and she even had that installed. This required removing a wall in the kitchen and expanding the unit which was on the third floor. I've seen jolin around town and she has always been cordial and nice, and we have even had a few meals together. Who eats with there landlady!?! In reading the other remarks below, I cannot imagine why people would say anything negative. If I moved back to Hanover and needed an apartment, I would rent from her again in a heartbeat. read more

I am the owner of two properties that Jolin Kish manages. As other reviewers have noted, she is fiercely protective of the value of the properties she manages, paying top dollar for cleaning and repairs and always making sure that the costs come out of the security deposit of the tenants who caused the damage. She is also always able to attract tenants, not only because of how desperate Dartmouth students are, but also because she knows how to immediately make a connection with new people. Being friendly and available to hundreds of people is not easy, especially when they all need your attention at once. Like a doctor's office where you always face a long wait, the bright side is that you know that in a life-threatening situation, others will be shoved aside to make room for you. This is not a far-fetched analogy: one night a storm brought down a tree on top of my house, skewering one of the beds on a branch. No one was injured but you can imagine the shock. Jolin immediately (and I mean, at midnight in mid-winter) re-housed the tenants elsewhere and got people to build me a new roof in four weeks, then moved everyone back in. She followed up with the insurance company and financed the whole thing until they paid. All I had to do was transfer the $1,000 deductible to KCC. Four stars because the local teenagers she hires to mow the lawns, sweep the snow etc. could use some customer-friendliness training. read more

To echo the other reviews on this page, Kish Consulting operates in the gap between what is legal and what is humane. Jolin communicates unprofessionally with tenants, and schedules maintenance repairs without properly notifying clients: I received an email at 10:30 pm saying that someone would be in the house to fix something at 8am the next morning. The properties managed by Jolin are in complete disarray, and meet the bare minimum of living standards-my place was lacking functional doors when I first moved in for example. She also charges a ridiculous 75$ lockout fee, for one of her employees to drive a few minutes and open a door. For students on a tight budget, this is cruel and unusual. She also breaks the law entirely, fitting 13 people in a property with a 9 person maximum occupancy (and charging them all full rent). I fully believe the other reviews on this page that she double charges tenants. Dartmouth students deserve better. On the plus side, now that I have moved on to a different (cheaper) place, I feel like I am living in a mansion. read more

Be forewarned when doing a deal with Kish. She's not a bad or dishonest person, but she's used to dealing with careless undergraduates and unfortunately has become used to treating everyone that way. Her properties are shabby and blah, often in a state of bare-minimum maintenance. Her office can be inept with paperwork and slow returning your deposits. On the good side, she does respond to emergencies promptly, the lease is straightforward, you won't get conned and you always know where you stand -- Jolin is unapologetically who she is. I would also agree with this assessment. From my brief interaction with Jolin Kish, I did not and would not sign a lease with her. The previous poster was spot-on on his/her comments. When I went to go tour a house that Jolin was planning on renting out, we were not allowed to go upstairs once she realized there were existing tenants present, as she had not informed them that we were coming. Furthermore, I believe that she made illegal agreements by double-renting out units: international students that would not be at Dartmouth in the Fall were paying, in addition to Thayer students who were there only for the Fall. Housing in Hanover is a tough situation since many of the properties available to students (especially grad students) are owned by just a few landlords, who leverage this to the max. The best bet is to go with the landlords who only own a few properties and therefore treat you less like the livestock (cash cow) that you are for them. read more

Jolin was a terrific property manager. I rented from her for 2 years. She and her staff are very professional, and she was responsive for both emergencies and non-emergencies. I also enjoyed dropping in and saying hi to the office whenever it was time to pay rent - they're fun people. read more

My parents were tenants in a building that Kish bought the property rights to. They lived in this building for 17 years. In mid-May they delivered a letter to all of the tenants that they had to be out by the end of June because they were tearing the place down. So all of the tenants had to vacate the premises. They said it was the worst experience they had every encountered from any landlord.....I say landlord, more like slumlord. They are the worst kind of people in this world and have been more than unaccommodating and relentless in their unannounced visits and refusal to fix or repair anything. My parents had to live out of boxes for over a month so they could deal with a bed bug problem in one of the apartments. They took their time hiring someone and scheduling it to be done. Do not ever rent from this company....EVER!!!! read more

Kish was my property manager for about 2 1/2 months. Only about 1 week before my lease ran out because my original landlords sold the property. I had read some reviews about the company and from other words I had heard, I was not looking forward to the continuing process. I wanted to go month to month (as my lease had stated I was eligible for) But due to Kish's insurance company I was required to sign another lease. I was unsure If I wanted to be there another year but knew I was not ready to leave yet. The apartment itself was not bad and after much deliberation, questioning, arguing and agreements, we were finally able to come to terms with each other. Due to the odd situation I was in Kish waved the 30 minimum departure notice for me and I was still able to get most of my security deposit. After I was fully moved out I was able to have a "check-out meeting" with Jolin. All in all for the time I was a tenant of hers I was very happy with the outcome. You need be fierce and firm in this environment, because there are far too many people trying to take advantage of others. read more

I would rather be homeless than ever talk to Jolin again. Jolin Salazar-Kish is the most disrespectful landlord I have ever encountered, even in Hanover. Not only does she treat renters like children, but she also overcharges for house cleaning, threatens to bring renters to court, claims that renters caused damage that was present at move-in, and will not return your security deposit. Her repairs people are unprofessional and come in to the home unannounced and without respect for the people living there. Overall, she would not be a real estate agent with any business if there were more housing options for Dartmouth students. Avoid her!!!! read more

Jolin Kish is a glorified slum lord. I should have taken the advice of at least a dozen people who said NEVER rent from Jolin. I thought that it would be fine, but she is incredibly rude, the house that we rented was falling apart, and she tried to charge us for things that were either broken before we even got there (i.e. paint peeling off walls and window sills), or that were in perfectly fine shape when we left and she said were not (like a clogged washing machine...although it was working fine). In addition, the rent was incredibly expensive, and she takes a full month's rent for a security deposit and won't return it. I think she counts on people not bothering to contest her baseless claims. Jolin just seems to have absolutely no common decency towards other human beings. My honest opinion is that everybody should avoid renting from her at all costs. read more

This landlord owns a lot of property in Hanover, so students looking for a place to rent may not be able to avoid doing business with her. She charges top prices for not-so-nice rental properties (although you'd think that they'd be of higher quality since they're in an upscale, high income town). In the event you must rent from her - caveat emptor. Read the lease very carefully. Do a VERY thorough walk-thru of the property (taking pictures and writing down EVERYTHING that is broken, doesn't work, has a crack, peeling paint, etc.) and be sure to give her a copy. Email her when something doesn't work or is broken. Document EVERYTHING. Be prepared to wait the maximum of 30 days from the end of your lease to get any of your hefty deposit back. She is ruthless when it comes to finding things to deduct from your security deposit, including cleaning. If you're messy/dirty or don't like to clean, then hire professionals to clean when you move out. It will be cheaper than leaving it a mess and having her deduct for cleaning from your deposit. Of course, this is all a moot point if your parents pay for your rent and you don't care if they get their deposit back. Also beware...people that work for her and supposed potential renters may enter the property without your permission or knowledge. read more

My only dealings with Jolin Kish was through a friend who was renting, and because of those experiences I will never consider any property she owns. Her prices are high, and as a result she encourages renters to break local law/ordinances and fit more people in the properties than are allowed. She then purposely only has 3 (of 4) sign the lease. Then she only gives one parking pass, despite the fact that the property can easily handle a car for each person. You can buy extra passes. If you don't be prepared to deal with DART (Dartmouth Area Recovery and Towing) who pray on 'illegally' parked cars. They have been brought to court multiple times in the past for their shady business practices (Jolin doesn't mind, she still contracts with them). At one point the one toilet in the house broke. It was a Saturday and Jolin refused to pay the weekend plumber rates and had them wait until Monday, told them to use the Gym bathrooms instead. She seemed like the type that got overwhelmed easily when things don't go her way, and her reaction was to shut off instead of fix the problems. read more
