I work for a company whose HQ is walking distance from the Kameha so it was recommended to me by a…read morecolleague that I book a room at this place, so I did. I've now stayed twice at the Kameha Grand hotel and if I have the choice, it will be the only hotel in Bonn that I will ever stay at - it's that good. This place has style ... and tons of it. The decor is... intense. As in lots of red. Red red red. You've never seen so much red in your life. I promise. And yet, it's not overwhelming like you might think (see my pictures.) I've stayed in some of the top 5 star hotels in the world and this place is competitive. The rooms as absolutely awesome. The layout affords privacy and quiet (I never heard a sound from a neighbor) while providing comfort. The only negative I had was only 1 English language channel was working (about half of the channels did not appear) on the television. Fortunately, they have superior internet speed so I just watched stuff on my tablet. The room service menu has great food options. The food is somewhat pricey but absolutely excellent quality. I got the 35 euro breakfast and frankly, it's hard to imagine anyone eating everything. Definitely enough for two people. I ate a number of dinners there and found the food to be excellent but the menu is limited and if I was going to stay there for more than about 4 days I would probably get super bored of it. Hopefully, they change it seasonally. I'll find out next year when I return. They have a private cigar room and I was even able to order dinner there. Very nice. According to my colleagues, they have a fabulous spa and infinity pool but I was working too many hours to take the time to go. Also something I look forward to on my next visit. I did however walk around the hotel a lot. It's situated along the Rhine river and there's a fabulous walkway that adjoins the river next to the hotel. I took a number of walks on it and it is really beautiful. Some of the nearby buildings are to be appreciated architecturally as well. You can get to the hotel by train but you will have a bit of a walk (half of it on a muddy cobblestone road and in the dark by night) so if you're not comfortable with that, call a taxi. Otherwise the walk is about 5 minutes and very straightforward. You'll have to see the pictures I'm posting to get a full sense of this place. It's something else and definitely recommended if you have to stay in Bonn.

It's a very modern hotel with huge open plan and a bit too open for my liking. Everything is in deep colours and a lot of red and black, a bit too much in fact. They have a totally open plan checkin area and a lobby bar. For a 5 star hotel this place is ok. This is definitely not my kind of hotel. It's too open plan for my liking. The rooms are nice but a bit too colourful and not easy on the eyes. The bathroom is totally open and again something I don't like. Service here is good but none of the staff actually smile. Perhaps they have forgotten how to ? They are helpful and professional however just did not feel the warmth. The best person was the bartender who was very nice and made some decent cocktails. Breakfast is quite ok and the selection is good. Room service was also quite ok and I enjoyed my burger. All in all this place did not wow me in any way.

I liked the decor and they succeed in not making this feel like another big chain hotel. Neither good nor bad - the hotel building is ugly from the outside. Not that this matters, but the promo-shots on their webpage make it look much better than it is - so kudos to the photographer ;) Negavtives: (Full) Breakfast is on the more expensive side of things and for that kind of money I expect some of the food (some Fruit, Pancakes, Waffles) not to be 'dead' 2.5 hours into service. Those should be replaced /removed regulary and not be left after they are no longer fresh. Prices for Parking and the Spa Area are also a bit on the expensive side given the location of the hotel.

I loved the fact that it looks just like the hotels I used to frequent when going on business trips to Germany; all a bit bling (gold light switches!) and Dallas-era, just like you imagine a hotel room to look like when you've watched too many made for TV dramas. All a bit tired looking now, which adds to the retro charme. Each room doubles up as a mini apartment with kitchenette and built-in ironing board, and apparently some guests stay here semi-permanently. There's a laundry room in the basement, as well as spa and fitness room. I was lucky to stay with a friend who extended a business trip, but apparently the rates are very reasonable even if you have to pay yourself. It's easy to get to, just a short walk from the tube. Didn't try any food here, with the town centre in walking distance the breakfast bar didn't hold much temptation.

There are a range of rooms available, split between traditional hotel rooms and apartment hotel rooms. The staff are friendly and the customer service provided was good. The hotel's post war architecture is very distinct and is complimented by the fixtures such as the art work in the corridors. The overall standard of the room was good. We had an apartment hotel room which contained everything we needed except an oven. However, a microwave and two hobs are provided so you can cook some meals. The bedding is German style so the pillows are very soft so not to everyone's level of comfort. The apartment rooms are cleaned twice a week and more cleaning is available for an extra charge. A basic cleaning pack is provided along with some initial welcome supplies of tea, coffee, bottled water and beer.

You can pre-pay your rate to include breakfast, which is a good idea, because unless you are eating McDonald's or a pretzel at the train station, that's all that is open or nearby. One thing: the bathtub is really deep and the step over it to get in the shower each morning is difficult if you have range of motion issues or you are short. Seriously. There is absolutely nothing on this side of the tracks, it is very residential and the college and castle reside on this side of the tracks. If the weather was nice, it is a nice stroll under the tracks over to the side where all the action is. I've stayed at another Gunnewig nearby, the Gunnewig Residence, and I liked it much better, plus it is a little cheaper and less business-y. Our only saving grace was the piano player one night in the hotel lobby, who enjoyed our "american requests". God help him, he went from "Hurt" to "Easy" by the commodores. For that, I should probably give the hotel one more star. But he is just an employee there. The drink tab for that was paid by my co-worker, and I believe was well into the triple digit euro. His fault for forcing our hand and making friends with the bartender. I would probably stay somewhere else next time, on the other side of the tracks. It does have great access to the train station though.
