It is clearly signposted from the road and has excellent access (controlled by traffic lights if heading in from B&Q side or exiting the compound) There are enough spaces for 920 vehicles, with ample disabled parking spaces located right in front of the bus stop (with ramp access down). There are even spaces set aside for larger vehicles, such as camper vans. However, if your vehicle is over 2.1m, you need to let the site staff know before entering the car park, and they will move the height barrier for you. The car park is monitored by CCTV and the control room is on site. They are also available for any queries that you may have. There are toilets on site. They are clean, if a little dated, but then is a public car park! The buses run frequenltly throughout the day (as early as 7am and at peak times running every 10 minutes), taking you from the car park to Piccadilly in the city centre in about 15 minutes. It drops you off close to the Jorvik Centre and the main pedestrian shopping areas. There are other stops available en route, such as Morrisons and Peasholme Green, but Piccadilly is the main stop where most people alight or catch the bus for the journey back. The last bus at time of writing, departs Picadilly at 8.05pm. The buses are clean and reliable with free wifi on board. The driver is (usually) very pleasant. The prices are good value, with an adult return ticket costing £2.80. That's not bad at all considering what you would pay in the car parks closer to the city centre. Concessions get a return ticket for just £1 each. Prices as of March 2015. .

The staff on the buses are generally much better too, albeit with a few exceptions however on such occasion the company are really good with formal complaints handling compared to First who didn't care at all. 3* - Ensuring great customer service across all drivers as well as cleanliness especially of the older-fleet and ensuring timekeeping is maintained and improved should be immediate improvements. I also do feel they could have launched with a larger amount of new liveried buses, especially compared to Diamond Bus North West who started commencing routes from First Manchester's Bolton depot shortly after Go North West commenced, in August 2019.

They is a lot of buses which go from here, including to Manchester, Southport, Bolton and The Trafford Center, but I can't help but feel most of the buses are unneeded and go too far, for example Manchester is only around half an hour on the train, but getting the bus here is 85 minutes and when Southport is also around 1/2 an hour on the train, but still the bus takes nearly 2 hours which is ridiculous, considering services available from Wigan Wallgate. I think it is misleading for people who may not know the area for buses to take so long, when the train takes only a fraction of this, and going on one of these journeys is in a way a punishment, and I'm sure it wouldn't be much cheaper (if anything) than getting the train. I feel to get the best of public transport, the station should work with Wallgate and North Western to encourage people to use the train for longer journeys, and then this station can become a local hub, with more buses going to local destinations which will help benefit Wigan and local towns, and give people a better deal. As a station this is merely average and is your typical bus station, with a newsagents etc, it isn't terrible as it is good to have in central Wigan but sadly I don't feel it deserves over 2 stars.

I found the buses to be pretty generic for First standards, no different to what one would find in other cities such as Greater Manchester and Potteries regions, the only exception being London where the set-up and look of buses is different due to Transport for London (TfL) regulations. I had mixed experiences with the staff, some seeming friendly and helpful, others seeming like they couldn't care either way - it was pretty much a half and half split, again this is commonly based on bus journeys with other operators and even First around the country, not just in the Yorkshire and Humber region. The Park and Ride service seemed to be highly overpraised, it even has it's own bus stops around the city, these buses are much more expensive and you can't travel with these with a regular bus ticket including concessionary pass, it also seems to be a set fare along the route meaning just to go one stop (I was arriving in the city for the first time in 18 months, not knowing where my hotel was) I'd have to pay £2 which included a return journey I had no intention of making. Buses ran either on-time with a delay of no more than two or three minutes, however, on a Sunday the buses were really really awkward and infrequent, with multiple services not turning up for 45 minutes in-between buses, and sometimes longer even in the late afternoon, the same also applies for a Bank Holiday. I understand it's Sunday hours, but the most I've seen as a gap in-between buses is 20-30 minutes (and even then there were other buses serving 90% of that route in that time), in other areas so for a city centre of such a large city with a population of around 474,632, that really isn't acceptable. Issues with certain drivers, the comfort of certain buses and other issues mentioned including how infrequent the buses actually run, it is barely satisfactory Monday to Saturday too, I feel First are taking their position basically running a monopoly of buses in the area (Through my weekend in Leeds I only saw one bus route which wasn't operated by First or their Park and Ride route) for granted, letting service suffer, and prices rise and that isn't on. 1*

Every one of them was clean and smooth and quiet. What I found particularly useful was that my bus was staffed by a "bus host" - when boarding, you would take your seat and he came to you to sell the ticket, make change and answer any questions. I am guessing that this helps with times at stops, since the bus doesn't wait on a long queue of folks. Many of the stops had cover from the rain, reasonably accurate "next bus" information and maps of the system and the individual routes. £3.70 for the day, a good deal.

They are going above and beyond to fuel and support the passenger experience, which includes investing millions of pounds on brand new buses for the X43 - Witchway, the buses were already comfortable and impressive but they just had to do one-up on themselves, I hate being on buses for a long period of time, especially with their Manchester - Burnley service taking way over an hour, but they find a way to make that journey enjoyable including - A mini-library on the bus, where you can even take buses home and return them on your next visit - Free wi-fi, the wi-fi isn't too fast but at a time where most other major bus companies have removed it due to either cost or COVID reasons, the fact they're maintaining a wi-fi is great - Mobile phone charging, you can charge your phone here through the USB charging or even the wireless charging at certain tables - Tables upstairs or at the back of the bus downstairs, making the journey much more comfortable again. - Orange front of the bus and lights going around a bus which is predominantly black if there was a limousine version of the bus it'd be the Witchway. I also like the stop announcements which don't just announce the stop, but they also announce the route along the way, for example, it gives you a warning before the bus enters the motorway at Prestwich as obviously it won't be able to stop for a while until it heads into Rawtenstall, it also announces when arriving into city/town centres, I've also noticed this on other Burnley Bus Company services too, such as the Mainline services which connect Burnley with a huge chunk of East Lancashire including Clitheroe. The frequency of the buses is still pretty good, buses regularly run on-time and never seem too overcrowded, which is handy especially during the current pandemic, where many operators have cut their services down to a poor level. I also like how different bus services have a different bus lively, but they all seem to stand out and look good inside and out, buses are as clean as they can be, bearing in mind they don't have cleaners on board, another COVID precaution is cleaners getting on/off the bus to sanitise everything at stations along the route, on the X43, someone got on at both Rawtenstall (Mid-way point) and Burnley (terminating point). The drivers always seem friendly too, it seems there are idiots who work for every bus company who are rude, clueless or even abusive, but I've never experienced a driver from Burnley Bus Company to be anything but friendly and eager to help. 5* - Empowering East Lancashire, not just connecting them into Greater Manchester and parts of Yorkshire, but providing a comfortable experience with friendly drivers, all in all, a great company, I just wish they offered more services which served Manchester.
